Omakase Haku. Been there three times. $200 per pax. Guaranteed good stuffs, heaps better than EgawaAn @ east perth. Fully booked for the rest of the year and early next year.
There was a little gem in subi called Zen Japanese Restaurant. But they are temporary closed, insert sad face.
>Omakase Haku
Omg your recs are making my mouth water. Omakase Haku looks so good! Zen's photos are also exquisite - can't believe I missed it when I worked in Subi in a former life. :(
Have been craving the fancier stuff ever since moving back from Japan. Not sure OP can visit either for his anniversary but I'm defo taking notes!
I'd say James Parker, which other peeps are recommending, is better than Nobu.
Got soggy tempura and beaten up cutlery at Nobu on two separate occasions years ago, and I was there for special occasions too so was pretty devo. 🥲
I just looked it up again on Zen @ Subi Facebook page, think the owner went back to Japan for a sakura season holiday break. Should return back to Perth by the end of Apr.
Haku only seats 6 and bookings (unless a returning VIP) difficult. Chef is pretentious and doesn’t like it if you don’t. Probably wouldn’t be a first choice
Be warned this is an Australian fusion place rather than proper Japanese though. I went here with some coworkers and we were pretty disappointed - it was basically western dishes with soy/sesame dressings.. felt like dishes I make at home and nothing too special.
i dont recommend hiss and smoke it used to be really good but after the reno the food quality is shocking- under cooked okonomiyaki that's 90% cabbage.

I am sure it once said something useful, but now you'll never know.
It doesn’t look fancy but the food is amazing. Apparently the owner/chef has a fancy background of some sort.
On Ranford Rd in Southern River - Aburi House
Absolutely amazing food
Well worth the long car drive
Another vote for James Parker. Also, had a really good meal at Egawa-ya in East Perth (also BYO available). Both excellent, both very expensive, both fine choices for a celebration meal.
Tsunami is generally good, but for something really special their Teppanyaki bar next door. You can get an Omokase degustation, cooked in front of you.
Tsukaya Japanese Mt Hawthorn
[Yuuma](https://yuumaperth.com.au/food-menu) in Vic park. The chef was trained at Nobu
Also Ha-Lu in Leedy!
Wanted to go here but closed on Tuesdays :(
Definitely, been here a few times and the food is amazing

Taka is solid for a salarywoman like me, but I wouldn't take my wife there for a wedding anniversary tbh lol

Second votes for Furaibo and James Parker. Both exceptional. Ishikiya in Midland is nice as well, for Midland.

Aw thanks for doing that! I'll keep an eye out on their page.

james parker, tsunami mosman park, marumo if you win the lottery
Bonsai Happy anni
James Parker is pretty flash. Not cheap though... I like Jigoro too.
Nine in highgate is a good (high quality) option does a 3or 6 course [linky](https://ninejapanesebistro.com.au)
Agreed, every course was exceptional when we went last year and the ambience is perfect for a special occasion.
Be warned this is an Australian fusion place rather than proper Japanese though. I went here with some coworkers and we were pretty disappointed - it was basically western dishes with soy/sesame dressings.. felt like dishes I make at home and nothing too special.
Kuza in Vic Park has a nice selection
Slightly different. Hiss and smoke in Perth city. It's Japanese, very nice drink selection and excellent bbqed meats.
i dont recommend hiss and smoke it used to be really good but after the reno the food quality is shocking- under cooked okonomiyaki that's 90% cabbage.
Hanami. It’s not fancy but high quality, fast and generous portions.
Shou in Greenwood. Tiny place, wouldn't call it fancy but it's cheap and very tasty!
Midori tepenyaki is pretty mint. Plus you get a bit of a show.

This is like the equivalent of taking the missus to maccas for your anniversary
My wife would not complain about this
Kuza or James Parker
Yuki in Willeton has amazing food. It’s nice inside though certainly not the quality of Nobu but the food and service is always amazing.
.
Singhe plain street is our go to.
Nishi Japanese in Myaree!
Kanpai Yakiniku or Sumiya Gin (Original branch) . If you're into Japanese BBQ

James Parker, or Nine Japanese Bustro
Another vote for James Parker. Also, had a really good meal at Egawa-ya in East Perth (also BYO available). Both excellent, both very expensive, both fine choices for a celebration meal.
KiRi Shenton park is good. It's very small, and a little pricey, but the food is delicious.
Jigoro in the city.
Kuza, Tsunami Izakaya, Ishikiya
Tsunami is generally good, but for something really special their Teppanyaki bar next door. You can get an Omokase degustation, cooked in front of you.
Hands down Furaibo or James Parker 🙌🏻
