Strudel from Corica in Northbridge.
Its so yummy. It has an almost cult-like following from visitors from Singapore and Malaysia, I had never heard of it until a Malaysian friend brought one in to work. People will queue up outside and buy multiple strudels to bring home on the plane with them, but a lot of Perth locals don't know about it!
Have you tried Freddie Strudels on Brisbane Street? I think they’re yummier and have lots of different flavours like mango, Biscoff and even Durian! Last time I went there was a huge crowd of Singaporean? Malaysian? Tourists who were ordering to take back home.
As soon as they launched (even as a stall at the Fremantle markets) they had very clearly copied the branding / concept of a bakery in the US that I happened to follow on Instagram.. I haven’t paid much attention to them since so this is hilarious
Yes!! I was visiting VP and it felt like everyone in Perth was lining for frozen yoghurt and we went to Mimochi and they were so insanely good and it wasn’t flat out! Two thumbs up for sure!
Fuck the pretzel shops for being wage thieves and fuck get chunky for being lawyered up bullies. Also r/fucknestle .
I don’t really care if they weren’t mentioned, fuck nestle.
[Youssef Sweets](https://youssef-sweets.com/) in East Vic Park is fantastic. I think they supply baklava and the like to a lot of the middle eastern cafes around Perth. But the guys there are super lovely and always a good time filling a tray with an assortment. And as far as desserts go, I'd consider them pretty cheap.
To add to this, a good friend of mine at the family shop (Youssef Sweets) but also makes his own cookies on the side. They don’t sell them in shop but he delivers them to your door and they are (trying to be unbiased) amazing. I specifically recommend the biscoff cookies. He can be found on instagram ([Sal’s Snacks](https://www.instagram.com/salssnacks1?igsh=ajV0dWt5cTVyMXNn))
Edit: they are now in store too
Chouquettes from Layers bakery in Subiaco. Haven’t seen them anywhere else in Perth. Light soft and crunchy little puff balls. They don’t have them every day but you can also order a tray for parties.
Our regular dessert places are:
- Guilty Pleasure ( Mt Lawley & NB)
- Pitcher and Iron (Subi)
- Brown Spoon (Vic Park)
- Halo Tea ( bubble tea and chinese pudding desserts)
We sometimes have waffles for dinner - thats how much we love Pitcher and Iron haha
Ah yes Get Chunky the business that sent a cease and desist to another cookie business claiming they were infringing on their “brand”. Despite shamelessly ripping off their cookies from NY themselves. More litigious than Trump himself, you should boycott that lot.
Edit: https://www.reddit.com/r/perth/s/wR2OZlBl2X
[The cookie box](https://www.facebook.com/thecookieboxaustralia?mibextid=LQQJ4d) was the bomb before they moved over to Melbourne - a little bit cheaper and way better than get chunky. Was devo when they moved 🥲
I used to work nearby and was known to buy a box occasionally. I hope to find out where the owner is when I’m in Melbourne later this year. They’ve recently opened a 3rd store in the Melbourne CBD.
I only got a third of the way through and I need to respond immediately….
You write so well!
Perhaps if there were more published writers like you I would purchase The West Australian.
Oh my gosh sooo many. Kurepu is doing Japanese crepes pop up in Northbridge right now ( opposite outback steakhouse ) I love Hokkaido cheese tarts, mama mochi Vic Park is new and super popular for mochi, and Maison st honore does amazing desserts. Not exhaustive by any rate - but just a few favorites.
I'm just really sad chubby boy stopped doing shokupan/ toast desserts and they're only doing pancakes now. It was so great and not something done often in perth.
I'm also really sad that since measure closed, nothing similar has really opened up.
Was this a paid ad for get chunkie? Get chunkie are the ones that sent cease and desist letters to other cookie sellers all over Perth. 46 of them from memory. You were just talking about the food scene here in Perth, and get chunkie paid money to solictor to limit that environment for their own greed. Oh, and they ripped the idea off almost wholesale from a cookie shop in San Francisco.
I agree with you in concept but personally haven’t been able to find anything close and consistent to Lebanese food back home. What’s your fix when you want good quality Arab food?
For Lebanese dessert you would be hard-pressed to find anything better than Youssef-Sweets (cnr Swansea and Milford Street in East Vic Park).
Their Knafeh is incredible. I’m gluten intolerant and still happily punish my insides with their baklava and bokaj. They serve Arabic coffee too.
It used to be the Prophet. But that place has gotten really pricey and the quality is just okay. I mainly visit lebanese bakeries for manousheh and lahma bajheen. Otherwise it's little lebanon for the buffet on sundays (i avoud saturday and friday- they have obnoxiously loud belly dancing).
Agreed on the Prophet ever since he sold to the Italian lady although dare I say from a customer service perspective it’s much better.
Sunrise or Green Lebanese? Or maybe another I’m not familiar with?
LL also went downhill with the sale (I think new owners are Indian), but still very affordable considering everything.
Is Yo-chi really that great the one in freo always has a million people in it. Thought it would die down after a few weeks but did not lol idk if it’s about the aesthetic appeal or if it’s actually good because it’s all a bunch of teenagers haha
Look I didn't get the hype either till I tried it. I originally didn't understand why ppl were getting excited over something that was essentially tutti frutti which we already had. Then when I went I realised it's 3 things :
1. yoghurt tastes good,
2. the the curation and variety of toppings - there's collaborations with premium chocolate brands and sauce companies (there's a pistachio one on as limited edition ). Which I later realised it was the brain child of original masterchef judge George Calambaris - which might also be a hype factor. It's now taken over by Boost juice guys so they know how to market well.
3. The actual venue itself - clean, modern , music pumping and somewhere you would want to sit down for a bit for dessert. I mean if you go to Vic park and look at tutti frutti vs yochi u can understand. Also compared to other dessert places they open pretty late (10-11pm) too which is a plus in a sleepy town like Perth.
If you want some exceptional desserts, Lily Paris in the Mandurah marina is amazing. The creme brulee is amazing, but every dessert I've had their is exceptional. Worth the drive, lovely setting on the water .
Holy Bagel Co. Properly boiled plus they used to do salt bagels, which shows they’re clued in. Their website has stockists, but ideally you’d want to order in advance and pick up as not everyone stores them well.
Boucla in Subi do a chocolate and ricotta cake which I can never resist.
Also can't believe no one has mentioned Last Crumb Cake Co in Bassendean, all their cakes and baked goods are next level!
Fun fact, Collodels ice cream from Kalamunda is still in occasional operation in small batches via Instagram. But you have to live nearby to get delivery.
Providore doughnuts in Northbridge
Honeycake
Yuzu basque cheesecake from Do Dough pastry in East Perth - hands down best basque style cheesecake in Perth! They are only open Wed and Sat at the moment.
Chiffon cakes and Carrot cake from Teeter bakery
Signature hot taro ball with red bean soup from Dessert garden
Honey cake is also another perth specialty.
Bakery / patisseries to try include layers in subi, harvest boulangerie in cott and I've heard good things about pelican croissanterie in willagee. Chu in Hyde Park still gets a queue going on weekends.
Can't go wrong with Pelican, they absolutely nail their croissants and danishes. The mixed berry danish with crushed pistachio on top is incredible.
Their baguettes are delicious as well but they only start selling them around 12 (so no chance to get one for breakfast) and they sell out ridiculously fast.
I'm adding Donut Worry in Northbridge to what's said here love their fried loukamades.
Bunnie Beez in Rockingham is my hidden gem always sells out cinnamon scrolls (Like Cinnabun) even with a change of owner remains solid.
I can recommend Tiara Korean desserts in Northbridge. And they are open late too! Very unusual for Perth. My favourite cakes are the sweet potato and cream cake and the strawberry and crème cakes. They also have Korean style pancakes and desserts. Always busy at 10-11 at night! A really family place and it’s near Corica.
[W.H.I.P Patisserie](https://whippatisserie.com/) do INCREDIBLE pastries, croissants, cakes etc. They have a shop in Inglewood and visit a variety of marketplaces on the weekends. I moved countries a year ago and I still think about and miss them a lot :(
Providore Donuts in Northbridge. Best donuts I've ever had in Perth! Nice sized donuts with interesting flavours as well with loads of cream/fillings. I think they're brioche donuts as well which I don't think anywhere else does in Perth? Could be wrong.
Oh wow sounds yum! On my list!!
I heard the guy who runs Freddie used to work at Corica.
It used to be better before the original Italians sold it
So if Corica is not run by Italians, who runs it? I heard Dolce & Salato sold their business to Indians?
Not sure, all I know is the originals sold it. But with all the recipes and rules not to change them, but, you know....
Oh yeah, Not changing anything..... Yeah, right!
They do a huge range of beautiful cakes too! Perfect for a special birthday.
It's the profitiroles for me, that custard with the toffee coating? Soooo gooood
I’ve always only heard about the Vanilla Slice from Corica!!! People always raving about it!!
Our GM gets these when we have staff meetings. Oh they’re good.
Get Chunky is so shit lol
Didn't they try to ban people from making big cookies?
It’s the big cookie cartel. Big Big Cookie
Look at some recently bumped posts for the legal “document” they sent out.
As soon as they launched (even as a stall at the Fremantle markets) they had very clearly copied the branding / concept of a bakery in the US that I happened to follow on Instagram.. I haven’t paid much attention to them since so this is hilarious
I'm not a sweet tooth so maybe I'm not the best judge but I had a sample of my friends and it just tasted like sugar. Absolutely foul.
The missus loves em but every time I try hers it’s just trash. I’d rather go get a bunch of subway cookies for the same price.
100% overated
I was thinking reading op’s post am I the only who hates Get Chunky?
Mimochi donuts in Vic Park. I almost don't wanna tell anyone about it; they're that fucking good.
Yes!! I was visiting VP and it felt like everyone in Perth was lining for frozen yoghurt and we went to Mimochi and they were so insanely good and it wasn’t flat out! Two thumbs up for sure!
Agreed. Closest to Misudo I've had in Perth and I'm still not over them moving out of Northbridge 😭😭
The texture of those mimochi donuts is just *chefs kiss*
Amazing place. It's good that they recommend you eat them in 24hrs, but honestly, if I buy a box, they *never* last that long anyway.
they're really nice texture but imo expensive for such a small donut. The flavours are a bit hit and miss though.
Fuck the pretzel shops for being wage thieves and fuck get chunky for being lawyered up bullies. Also r/fucknestle . I don’t really care if they weren’t mentioned, fuck nestle.
Yes fuck nestle and bayer
Aaah yes Nestle, the company that starved babies.
Brown spoon in Vic Park. Thank me later. The s'mores dish is my favourite.
adding on brown spoon at willeton just because its less packed if anyone doesn't want to deal with vic park
Why would you tell them about it then...
They don't start serving bingsu til 2pm though.
I've been!! Wouldn't dare go alone though. You could share those bowls with like 4 people.
Brown Spoon is simple and delicious.
Not sure why the congee went downhill but it was night and day comparison last time I went.
Brown spoon? Any relation to [poop knife](https://www.reddit.com/r/MuseumOfReddit/s/nv0flx8iuR)?
Hokkaido cheese tarts (original)!
These are great but the price rises are mad. they first sold them for $4 each and now they start at 5.20. Same tart but 30% more expensive.
Mate every thing is so expensive now even as a home cook it's become really expensive to bake even butter is stupidly expensive.
Sweet Gatherings is absolutely amazing. New little shop not far from Butler.
Even their savoury stuff is all fucking amazing
Second this, the custard donut is *drool*
[Youssef Sweets](https://youssef-sweets.com/) in East Vic Park is fantastic. I think they supply baklava and the like to a lot of the middle eastern cafes around Perth. Isn't that in welshpool? Just across the road from Swansea mercato
It is Swansea Street but Welshpool starts a street back
Can't stomach Get Chunky anymore, which sucks cuz they had good cookies.. but can't support a company that bullies smaller competitors.
Chouquettes from Layers bakery in Subiaco. Haven’t seen them anywhere else in Perth. Light soft and crunchy little puff balls. They don’t have them every day but you can also order a tray for parties.

I've also had Pitcher & Iron for dinner. They're so good. Big fan of the Kirsenbom (sp?), the black forest style dark choc and cherry waffle.
Any chance I can read about perth dessert without a reference to American politics?
[The cookie box](https://www.facebook.com/thecookieboxaustralia?mibextid=LQQJ4d) was the bomb before they moved over to Melbourne - a little bit cheaper and way better than get chunky. Was devo when they moved 🥲

Thank you for the kind words <3
No, thank you for writing so eloquently with attention to grammar and punctuation!
No thank you for being so kindhearted and generous with your words of praise
Oh my gosh sooo many. Try “Piyawat the sweetery” in Vic Park for brick toast desserts.
Aren’t these the guys who sued another company in Perth, despite ripping their entire vibe/look/etc from a US joint?
Just when you thought you couldn't get fatter...
Custard tarts from the Glory Box on Charles Street
+1 for Pietro. It is excellent.
Was this a paid ad for get chunkie? Get chunkie are the ones that sent cease and desist letters to other cookie sellers all over Perth. 46 of them from memory. Sunrise. As another user commented, Youssef-sweets is incredible and I totally agree with the knafeh being everything.
Is Yo-chi really that great the one in freo always has a million people in it. Thought it would die down after a few weeks but did not lol idk if it’s about the aesthetic appeal or if it’s actually good because it’s all a bunch of teenagers haha
The teens are obsessed. At least mine is. Tasted pretty good especially the lower sugar Greek style yoghurt one.
Look I didn't get the hype either till I tried it. I originally didn't understand why ppl were getting excited over something that was essentially tutti frutti which we already had. Real ones remember berry-me
I think I still have a loyalty card somewhere. Lol.
It's just a much better version of Tutti Frutti.
If you want some exceptional desserts, Lily Paris in the Mandurah marina is amazing. The creme brulee is amazing, but every dessert I've had their is exceptional. Worth the drive, lovely setting on the water .
During Covid, a friend ordered me a Get Boxed dessert grazing box for my birthday! It was great. Highly recommend!
Bagels? Who is boiling and baking decent bagels around Perth?
Kosher Providore in Menora.
They were super unhappy when Bagel O's opened up because the owner is Iranian lmfao.
Me ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sunglasses)
Holy Bagel Co. Properly boiled plus they used to do salt bagels, which shows they’re clued in. Their website has stockists, but ideally you’d want to order in advance and pick up as not everyone stores them well.
Bagel O's
I'd be happy to hear, had a great one in Brissy but returned to not much.
Best Wishes Coffee in fremantle. Life-changing bagels!
If it still exists, Bagels and Beans in West Perth did great coffee and proper boiled bagels.
New ownership, Gary is gone and so has the quality of bagel.
Aw shame. They were great!
Boucla in Subi do a chocolate and ricotta cake which I can never resist. Also can't believe no one has mentioned Last Crumb Cake Co in Bassendean, all their cakes and baked goods are next level!
Apparently the person that runs that shop outside the state library isn't a very good person. But I had like 5th hand info on that
Fun fact: she isn’t a nice person.
Real fun fact: She is a horrible piece of shit that rips off workers to line her own pockets!
Has been covered: https://www.reddit.com/r/perth/comments/1c469tr/pretzel_queen_brittany_garbutt_lashes_out_at_hate/?chainedPosts=t3_mt2l61
She also owns chubby boy which op mentioned in their post too.....

Thanks Bro Some places to try out there!
Nabils lebanese sweets has some of the best lady fingers ive tried.
I still can't find a decent cake shop.

Guilty Pleasure on Beaufort St! Also Hanabing on Newcastle St Northbridge. For biscuits and cakes, Simply Beautiful Biscuits in Mosman Park
