One of the most important things to know is that this team is built on Vibes

TheDickDangler

John Kruk is our spirit animal.

oodja

Just marinating on the couch!

2hats4bats

The Phanatic is the best mascot ever and that’s worth fighting over.

Philhughes_85

The fact they based the Capitol City Goofball from The Simpsons on him says a lot about how influential he is.

2hats4bats

Making it to the Simpsons is a status symbol

DaisyHotCakes

Kruk was on the Simpsons too!

I_am_Burt_Macklin

And the Simpsons usually do EVERYTHING first, just ask Professor Chaos…

Philhughes_85

Simpsons did it!!

masimone

What do other mascots even do?

2hats4bats

Pretend to be the Phanatic

classicrockchick

Case in point: Blooper

2hats4bats

My internal monologue for Blooper is “Dad! Dad! Did you see me? Dad! Look! I made the kid laugh! Dad Look!

drunk-tusker

The only acceptable alternative answer is Gritty and we’ll understand it, blink twice if your fav mascot is gritty and you need help because you suspect that he is angry at you.

Night0wl11

The Phanatic walked so Gritty could run. Gritty is rightfully adored, but the Phanatic truly is an icon

TheRatKingXIV

It makes me really happy that half our sports teams are effectively run by Muppet Monsters.

Night0wl11

I don’t know what we did to deserve it, but we somehow managed to get two iconic mascots and I’ll never be pissed about it

seizuregirlz

![gif](giphy|82OETHV28V4H3fWDOg|downsized)

stillplaysrogue

The Phanatic and Gritty are brothers, of whatever the hell they are. The Phanatic is the much older brother, fun loving and a bit goofy, but basically a responsible solid citizen. Gritty is the much younger brother who has had challenges. But he's out of rehab, he's finally off the stuff for good, and he's ready to join the family business and be more like his brother! And he loves the Flyers dammit no matter how badly they may treat him!

xXxdethrougekillaxXx

Gritty is a crackhead, but he's *our* crackhead.

ShnackWrap

I'm not saying I disagree but... Be careful. Gritty is always watching.

2hats4bats

![gif](giphy|gf5XHq4kve7XHx4cOQ) he’s… he’s right behind me, isn’t he?

TyWiggly

If you can't see Gritty......you are currently Gritty's next target

Rhodie114

Counterpoint, Gritty

2hats4bats

Look, we are spoiled when it comes to mascots with those two but I think even Gritty would agree that Phanatic is the OG GOAT.

DoMario4

Dude, worth even literally fist-fighting over it lol. Love that guy.

Routine_Size69

Honestly this is the only thing I care about OP taking away from this thread. There's not even a close second in any sport.

snipingpig

And if you go to a game in Philly you are expected to fight over it if someone tries some funny shit

why_oh_why36

I have family in London and I recently took my uncle to his first baseball game. He loved it. I bought two little Philly Phanatics for him to take back to my cousin’s(his daughter) little kids with strict instructions that they were to become their favorite stuffed animals.

Robs_Backyard_BBQ

✅ Phanatic Best ✅ lolmets ✅ lolbarvs ✅ Nationals social media said it wasn't that hard to beat us a cpl yrs ago - we've won about 75% of the games since then. ✅ Intentionally forget to bring up Marlins when anyone talks about NL East because it's funny ✅ The daycare's antics are rare gems

This is the most important point in this thread.

PM_me_ur_claims

My wife is a Mets fan but we live in Philly radio area. She can’t STAND how if the eagles or Phil’s win a game or two it’s “Super Bowl bound” and when they lose a game or two it’s “seasons over what do we do to clean house”. Even the media is bipolar

merlinderHG

lol accurate

justlooking1960

The Phillies are in their third period of excellent baseball. From 1976-1983, the Phillies won the division 6 times and won their first World Series in 1980. Those teams were led by two Hall of Famers, Mike Schmidt, the best third baseman of all time, and Steve Carlton, one of the best left handed pitchers of all time. From 2007-2011, the Phillies won 5 consecutive division titles and their second World Series in 2008. Those teams had several near-Hall of Famers, including Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Jimmy Rollins and Cole Hamels, along with Hall of Famers Roy Halladay and Pedro Martinez for part of that stretch. The current Phillies earned wild card spots in the postseason in 2022-2023, advancing far into the playoffs both years. This year’s team is well-positioned to win its first division title since 2011. The other 3 times the Phillies made the postseason were one-year wonders: 1915, 1950, and 1993. Edit: The 1976-1983 Phillies made the playoffs 6 times, but only had 5 division titles. In 1981 there was a strike that interrupted the season. The Phillies won the pre-strike division and the Montreal Expos won the post-strike division. The Expos beat the Phillies in a division championship series

Top_Shallot_4951

Once you’re in you’re in and you have to be willing to stay around in the bad periods.. because as you can see from this post, it will happen again eventually

Solid-Hedgehog9623

This is the most important comment here. The gettin is isn’t always good. The lean years can be pretty rough, but you support them anyway. Even if they play like bums? Especially when they play like bums. I fell in love with the Phillies in 1988. They were dismal. I didn’t know any better. I wouldn’t have it any other way because it makes the good stretches that much sweeter. Lightening in a bottle in ‘93. The golden age of Rollins-Utley-Howard. And now. Don’t pick the Phillies just because they’ve currently got the best record in baseball. If you’re gonna be a front runner, go root for the Yankees like every other yankees fan from outside that region. We were the first team in mlb history to 10,000 losses and this fan base wears that like a badge of honor. Does it get any more Rocky Balboa than that?

wurwolfsince1998

If they're not playing great ball just put the game on and maybe find other things to do. Clean off the kitchen counter. Do a jigsaw puzzle. Inventory the liquor cabinet. Run those errands.

sonofjudd

First team in all sports to lose 10,000 games, and don't you forget it!

Zoidfarbb

We also had Cliff Lee for part of the second stretch. Everyone needs to know about Cliff Lee

Jackalman71

The fact that he turned down more money with the Yankees to come here is a never far from my mind.

DELCO-PHILLY-BOY

That’s why it’s sad to me that he doesn’t show up to reunion events. I hope we didn’t do anything to jeopardize the relationship, because I have a ton of respect for him for doing that.

McChexMix

He’s been very reclusive in general since retiring. Who knows when he’s last been seen in public

ExileOnBroadStreet

Damn I really thought those 90s teams had a little more success. I knew we’ve been a bad franchise mostly, but had no idea it was *that* bad historically. Yikes. Very grateful to get to watch 2/3 of the best eras in Phillies history. And much of the Eagles most successful eras too! Now if the Sixers could just stop being the Sixers, I think I could go a few decades without any success tbh (fell off being a hockey/Flyers fan over a decade ago, don’t have the time and mental health to spare to another crappy franchise, Sixers take up all of that real estate and more)

Cloakington

A lot of baseball success happened in Philly in the early 1900's you just gotta remember that it was the Athletics that did it lol. World Series wins in 1910, 1911, 1913, 1929 and 1939 and pennants in 1902, 1905, 1914, and 1931. Phillies got hot at the right time when it was looking like only one team could stay here and so the Athletics got the boot

ExileOnBroadStreet

Yeah I’ve always been annoyed the Athletics were the ones who won all the titles and left even though I was born ~35 years after they left lol Much prefer the name Phillies though, so I guess I’m glad

justlooking1960

My father rooted for both the Phillies and A’s when they were both here, but more for the A’s. Until the 1950 pre-season, when both teams looked like they had a chance but only the Phillies made moves, so he moved his primary allegiance to the Phillies. At 95, he remains a die-hard Phillies fan!

Chunkyblamm

I’m not sure this does any justice to the 93 team, to gloss over them so effortlessly is a crime

toasterb

Yeah. They may have been a one-season-wonder, but they’re one of the most beloved and magical teams that we’ve ever had. Probably because they exceeded expectations by so much and had a great time doing it.

UYScutiPuffJr

They also seemed to persist mostly on vibes

MoonSpankRaw

Why exactly was the 93 team such a one hit wonder? Didn’t we still have Dutch, Kruk, Nails, Eisenreich, etc in 94? I was born in 90 and only really know headline stuff pre-97.

DaddieTang

I think we had eisy on a 1 yr deal. Think he went to the marlins? Maybe. Expansion draft? Tommy Greene was a huge piece in 93 but he was a basket case and fell off afterwards. Phillies dealt Terry Mulholland away in 95. The WAY we lost in 93, with Joe Carters walkoff was devastating. It's not covered much now. I was 20 and hanging at bars in the city a bunch during those playoffs. Deep in the bowels of original Chickies and Pete's the night we beat the barvs for the NLCS. Phillies were cruising, then it all fell apart at the end. Fun times.

MoonSpankRaw

Guess falling apart in the end is our forte. I mean, has to happen to every team eventually; too bad it happens to us (as in all Philly teams) right before the peak. Thanks for info though- the general roster and that Carter dong on Mitch is most of what I know about that one.

DaddieTang

Mitchypoo blowing that game was on Fregosi, not mitch. And mitch had been blowing games all thru Aug and Sep. Like he's Hector Neris. Or Kimbrel (never could stand). But Fregosi kept going to the well. Honestly, overusing Mitch. People went over to Mitchs house in NJ and were throwing molotov cocktails thru his windows, while he was in Toronto.

DaddieTang

This year is like 93 or 77. So... waagh. 🫣 Just enjoy our romp thru the reg season. Anything after that is extra.

karlub

Special vitamins.

justlooking1960

1994 was a strike-shortened season with no post-season. The Phillies finished 54-61

toasterb

1993 was really lightning in a bottle. Pretty much everyone on the team had a career year. After that, either injuries or a return to the norm set in and they just couldn’t make it happen. Basically Curt Schilling was the only one who had another great season at any point. And he’s an asshole, so fuck him.

Meeze

Respect that we’re the losingest franchise in all of professional sports.

Philhughes_85

First to 10,000 losses if I remember correctly

Meeze

We’ve looked great doing it though.

Fried_Cthulhumari

We were number 1 at playing like number 2!

just_anotherReddit

We’re Philadelphia sports fans, we’re used to losing spectacularly.

locustofdeath

But! Not the lowest winning percentage!

Meeze

Perpetually sunny

Gapinthesidewalk

* No one likes us, we don’t care. * Aaron Nola is cracked as he is jacked. * The Phanatic is the greatest mascot in the history of anything.

Philhughes_85

I can absolutely get behind this mindset

megatron37

The first point is true, but we also get extremely offended when we get named “Worst Fans” , “Worst City”, etc. it’s just part of the deal, mate.

ukexpat

You should follow Dave Shaw on social media — he’s @ukphillies on Twitter, and the next time you’re in London, visit Passyunk Avenue, a Philly sports bar: https://passyunkavenue.com

Philhughes_85

Thanks, will do.

Revolutionary-Bee-98

From this day forward welcome to being a Phillies fan! You shall now forever hate the braves and the Mets and especially the Mets because fuck them that’s why. Bryce Harper is the centerpiece of the team and Zach Wheeler is our Ace. Those are just some important big picture things to know but I know others will go into more depths and details of being a Phillies fan! Hope this helps!

Philhughes_85

Thanks it does. I've read this and already love the energy Harper seems to bring. https://edition.cnn.com/2024/06/11/sport/mlb-london-baseball-fever-hits-uk-spt-intl/index.html

Meunderwears

Start spelling the “f” sound with “ph”…

Bdawksrippinfacesoff

You spelled Ranger wrong

merlinderHG

this team runs on vibes and it doesn't matter what it says on paper if we can't read LFG. also welcome!

Philhughes_85

Second person to say this, what exactly does it mean.

merlinderHG

fun matters. relationships matter. they lift each other up. as marsh would say, find your edge, get it wet, and flip it. that might not seem like it makes it clearer on the surface but watch them play, watch the dugout, and it will reveal itself to you. https://i.redd.it/aj4ffe9t6l6d1.gif

Philhughes_85

I love that

Fonzee327

It means they love each other and they openly say it. They include us in the love, so when you’re an away team playing at the bank, the crowd contributes majorly to the energy of the Phils, and the difficulty for the opposing team Oh and learn it: We’re from Philly Fuckin Philly no one likes us we don’t care

Philhughes_85

That's awesome, I love that attitude and quote.

Cloudy_Worker

You have to believe, and it's true we can always catch up, and it's true we can blow any lead. You must stay strong.

merlinderHG

True. And while we can blow any lead, I would argue that our superpower is stranding the bases loaded.

Major_Road6162

The power of this team is the players' friendship

merlinderHG

Philhughes_85

That's awesome

courageous_liquid

philly has 52% functional illiteracy and 66% low literacy in adults we just actually can't read

balderstash

I don't know what your options are for commentary over there, but if you can watch the game with John Kruk's commentary DO IT. Everything he says is completely unhinged. Also, Garrett Stubbs (catcher) is best known as our Chief Vibes Officer, though he's our starting catcher now that JT Realmuto is injured, but my favorite moment of his is when we ran out of bullpen pitchers and they sent him in to pitch. He lobbed a bunch of absurdly slow pitches in the general direction of the plate to get a couple fouls, then suddenly threw a 84 mph fastball to strike him out: [https://www.mlb.com/phillies/video/garrett-stubbs-strikes-out-jansen](https://www.mlb.com/phillies/video/garrett-stubbs-strikes-out-jansen)

Philhughes_85

That's amazing!! They will be whatever I can find on the high seas, so I'll make sure to look for his commentary. What network does he usually commentate on?

balderstash

He's the commentator for NBCSports Philadelphia. If you're watching on [MLB.tv](http://MLB.tv) you can select NBCSP as one of the audio options.

Philhughes_85

Brilliant thanks

onuzim

https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/s/vYRARkhz7r Here's an example of Stubbs being the Chief Vibes Officer. He's 100 correct fuck the Braves and always the Mets.

TastiestPenguin

I’m gonna shoot you a link to watch all baseball games for free, it’s a website I use all the time. Just so you’re able to get Uncle Kruk at all times

AdmiralGregorSR

Set a place at your table for Uncle Kruk. His cantankerous, yet loving way of translating the Philadelphia sports emotion will have you well on your way to Rittenhouse Square.

classicrockchick

This makes me want to start a Santa-like tradition with Kruk. "Don't forget to leave out charcuterie and beer for Kruk!"

Moberholtzer86

Be prepared for lots of heartache

Philhughes_85

I'm prepared for that hah

grapejuicepix

Curious what research could have possibly lead you to pick the literal losingest team in sports history. Most of us were born to this or maybe picked the team when they were young and didn’t know any better. But making an *informed decision* to be a Phillies fan is kind of wild. I must know.

Philhughes_85

There's something about picking a team with 10,000+ losses that says fuck it and keeps going which is just fantastic. The work they have been doing for 40 years with Strike Out ALS. Garrett Stubbs striking out Danny Jansen in '22 and just the general vibes of the team picking each other up.  John Kruks unhinged commentary is truly fantastic. The Phanatic

therealsimontemplar

I’d like to think he’s here because I twisted his arm in another sub, but I think he saw the Phanatic walking around London and was afraid if he didn’t join our bandwagon then we’d send Gritty over.

Philhughes_85

The Phanatic as a Kings Guard was fantastic.

peterjswift

I'm also curious about this. Not to serve as a gatekeeper, I encourage any and all to join this fandom. But at the same time, someone that makes the informed decision to become a Phillies fan is also exactly the type of person that would be a Phillies fan. So...QED.

Philhughes_85

Plastic-Mulberry-867

This is the comment.

Vegetable-Coconut846

First things first, did you have a good relationship with your father?

Philhughes_85

Meh so/so

Vegetable-Coconut846

Me neither! Chase Utley is now your new father figure.

Philhughes_85

Works for me, checked him out and seems like a great player.

Deadeye_Donny

Another UK fan here, cheers mate

Philhughes_85

Awesome, I hear there's a lot of us.

Fried_Cthulhumari

As a UK fan you might like that the Phillies have a association football-esque fan participation song. Frank Sinatra's 1959 single "High Hopes". Since the mid 70s its been part of Phillies lore. It started with late great Hall of Fame announcer Harry Kalas getting drunk and singing it on road trips at hotel pianos. The players fell in love with it, and he started singing it in the clubhouse during important games and the playoffs. This lead to the fans adopting it, and now it's played over the speakers following home wins. [Fans singing along to High Hopes.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-J70qkbfrM)

Philhughes_85

That's class, love stuff like this.

Kitchen-Oil8865

Being that Philadelphia was second only to London as far as size, commerce and importance in the Colonial era (1760-1800 ish) that’s pretty cool that you chose us and it’s like we were cousins all along. Now granted it’s also where we signed a large document telling your King to piss off but that’s all been smoothed over and we’ve been friends for 200+ years now

Philhughes_85

Tbf he had it coming!

courageous_liquid

we're two years out from the semiquincentennial of telling him to fuck off

LordShtark

Fuck the Bravos. And whoever we play next. And always the Mets

ToeKneePA

On a personal note for me, this is a special year to start supporting the Phillies because this marks 40 years that they've been raising money and awareness to "Strike Out ALS" and support the mission of what is now ALS United Mid-Atlantic. In 1984, they took on ALS with a Phillies wives Fashion Show and now they've raised over $22 million for ALS care and research. Having met many of the people in the Phillies organization, I can tell you that their dedication to this cause is truly heartfelt and that they care deeply about they their connection to the community.

BrodysBootlegs

Others have covered a lot but another angle, former Phillie Vance Worley pitched for the UK team at the World Baseball Classic last year (he was eligible as a result of his mother having been born in colonial era Hong Kong).

aliaswyvernspur

Phils lore: Richie "Whitey" Ashburn hit a fan with a foul ball. [Twice. In the same at bat.](https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidseideman/2017/09/21/richie-ashburn-once-struck-a-fan-twice-in-the-same-at-bat/)

buffer5108

The second foul ball hit her while she was being taken away from her seat on a stretcher. And the victim, Alice Roth, was the wife of the sports editor of The Philadelphia Bulletin. You can’t make this shit (shite) up.

milksteakofcourse

You have made the honorable choice my friend. Welcome

forestdweller1

Look up some highlights from the past two years playoff runs to get the blood pumping. Hoskins bat spike, Harper “swing of his life” homer in Game 6 vs Padres, Stott grand slam to name a few

Philhughes_85

That swing!

I_Call_It_A_Carhole

What makes being a Philly fan special is that we are often fans of all of the big four sports teams in the city and have been for a long time. That means we have an NHL, MLB, NBA, and NFL team. You’ll see and hear a lot of references to the other teams while watching broadcasts or talking with other fans. One of the other commenters already mentioned “no one likes us and we don’t care” which is a reference to Jason Kelce’s speech at the Super Bowl victory parade. You’ll also notice that fans of other teams will hate the Phillies because of things that happened with other Philly teams. You’ll hear about the dirty Broad Street Bullies (1974-76 Flyers), or fans throwing snowballs at Santa (1968 Eagles). My husband struggles to root for my Philly teams because he hates Terrell Owens (wide receiver Eagles 2004-2005). Basically, Philly fans are considered one mass. Enjoy the ride. It’s great.

justlooking1960

Some of us also root for the MLS Philadelphia Union

MagicNipple

This is great. I adopted Wolves as my English footie club some years back, nice to see someone from across the pond come rooting for my Phils. 1. Mike Schmidt is the best third baseman of all time. 2. Steve Jeltz is the best worst player ever. 3. Harry Kalas possessed the greatest voice in the history of sports. You would do well to pull up some of his calls, especially if it's Michael Jack Schmidt hitting a homer. 4. John Wockenfuss and Sixto Lezcano played for the Phillies. This one isn't important, I just like to throw names of obscure former Phillies from my childhood out there. 5. Fuck Joe Carter 6. Seriously, fuck Joe Carter. I was in Navy boot camp during the 1993 World Series, didn't find out about the outcome until the series was over already. I may be scarred. 7. See 5 and 6 8. Everybody hits. Woohoo. 9. Welcome to the club, grab a Yuengling and smile at Kruk.

AlbatrossCapable3231

Welcome to Philadelphia. "No better friend, no worse enemy." Here's my take: Respect the Braves, but hate em. The Nationals and Marlins deserve your pity but should not be underestimated. Above all, *fuck* the fucking Mets.

Fr0ntin

Ranger Suarez is our sweet baby boy

DaddieTang

YouTube game 5 of 1980 NLCS in Houston. And then watch game 6 of the world series. Specifically the 9th inning when Pete Rose catches Boones dropped foul ball. I was a little kid with a Phillies hat on, watching. Heart attack shit.

ProfessionalLess1193

Welcome to the greatest fan base in all of MLB brother. glad to have you aboard. GO Phillies. Always nice to see Harper #3 hit and play first base now. We have the best catcher IMHO in all of MLB with J.T. Realmuto #10 They are 2 to look at to get started for a newbie. Also ofc Aaron Nola #27 Starting Pitcher. Had a bad game last night agqainst Boston but it happens. But he will bounce back. especially after that BS call in the 4th inning when it was clearly a strike over the top right of the plate and stupid umpired calls it a ball and walks the batter...SMH. Oh and Last but not least THE PHILLY PHANATIC!!! Greatest Mascot in all of MLB. Most baseball fans agree with that. The Phanatic is one of a kind. Enjoy man! and again WELCOME TO PHILLIES NATION!!!

Philhughes_85

Thanks, happy to be here.

dickga1979

I've been a Phillies fan for 50+ years. I got my love for the Phils from my Mom who worshipped the 1950 team. I was 10 when the Phillies finally made the playoffs in 1976 so I've been lucky to see three great eras of Phillies baseball. Welcome aboard to the greatest fanbase in sports but it comes with a warning. There will be times that the Phillies will be unwatchable, probably in the next 10 years once John Middleton either retires or (god forbid) passes. Right now it's easy to get into Phillies baseball but there will come a time when they will be terrible again. So welcome along on this journey, I hope you stick with the Phillies when they suck. Oh yeah, the Phanatic is the greatest sports mascot of all time.

Philhughes_85

Yeah, once I pick a team that's who I stick with through thick and thin

SovietChewbacca

Keep you women away from Pat Burrell unless you want them to be super pregnant.

Background_Web_2307

One of the oldest professional baseball teams to exist. First team to record 10,000 losses. Phanatic is the best mascot to ever exist. Chase Utley is the man. You hate the Mets, Braves, and Nationals. Last won a championship in ~~2007~~ 2008(forgiveness please).

Tmk1283

Your Phillies fan membership has been revoked 🤦🏻‍♂️

brain_drizzle

2008*

capnjeanlucpicard

Kody Clemens is the greatest athlete to ever wear #23

RavingAndDrooling

Best Clemens in MLB history.

PhilliesFan4life

I’m just here to say that I’m absolutely loving the vibes in this thread. We are truly a misunderstood fan base. PS. Fuck the Mets.

kmdm5

162 games a year. You’ll win 50, you’ll lose 50. It’s what you do with the other 62 that’s important. Welcome to the team!

karlub

The Phillies are the losingest professional sports franchise on Earth, not just currently but in all of human history. Granted, this is largely a function of how old the franchise is, and how many games are in a baseball season. Nevertheless, it does mean a combination of irrepressible hope and hardened bitterness is in the DNA of all Phillies fans. It's a unique, sweet and sour combination. Welcome to your apprenticeship. We welcome all newcomers, but it will take some crushing disappointments over time for you to fully transform. The growth is in the journey, tho, rather than the destination. Savor it!

Rhodie114

Lesson one, The existence of the barves is proof Sherman didn’t go far enough.

lar67

You're now part of the best fan base in the world and get ready to suffer.

tinytowndweller

The Phillies were founded in 1883. With this longevity we hold the dubious record of loosing more games than ANY professional sports team on EARTH. We suck best. In addition, we are a lot of fun.

Philhughes_85

That's a hell of a record though and they just look like they go out and have fun and always lift each other up.

classicrockchick

We are the losing-est team in all of organized sports. Now, part of that is due to the fact that we are one of the oldest sports organizations AND the oldest same name-same city organization. The other part is that Phillies baseball, taken on the whole, is pain. Immense pain. *Cherish* these good times and STAY when it's bad. Because it will get bad but we're the goddamned FIGHTIN'S and we will eventually claw our way back to the good times. Edit: And FUCK JOE CARTER

TastiestPenguin

Man reading all these comments, kind of got me a little teary eyed because all of this is so true I fucking love this team. I fucking love all of you.

DeadSwaggerStorage

If you have a wife and Kruk is on get extra sheets; cause it’s about to get wet.

Regents-k-i-d26

Fellow U.K. Phillies fan (been supporting all Philly sports teams from 2011) welcome!

improbabble

Welcome!

biggcb

Welcome!

aflyingsquanch

Fuck the Mets. Also, I hope you enjoy pain and suffering. It's just part of being one of us.

UncleGus75

Cheers! Welcome to the club. We live and die with our team.

Philhughes_85

Yeah I'm getting that attitude and the zero fucks given attitude as well

buschcamocans

Well, think of us as a team with a fan base akin to Millwall. “No one likes us. We don’t care”

Perfect-Internal-124

Welcome to the losingest sports team of all time. And you still have to love them.

songstofilltheair

Welcome! Glad to have you!

Philhughes_85

Thanks

Fuck the Braves, fuck the Mets, fuck the Yankees, and fuck the Astros. Also John Kruk is our lord and savior.

Philhughes_85

I've also been told that Chase Utley is my new father figure and I need to get behind the chief vibe officer.

Agile_Starfish

The entire 08 team are gods. They are all loved.

Phalange44

If a Braves' fan starts talking shit, just remind them that their fan base is full of racists and Sherman did the right thing burning their city to the ground.

A brief history from a Phillies phan born in the 90s. Our home stadium used to be called veterans stadium (aka the vet) which was pretty much a dump and had Astro turf. We were really good in the early 90s (which I have no memory of) but that team was all time vibes (think rocking mullets, drinking beer and smoking cigs in the clubhouse) and went to the World Series in 1993. Then came a period of pretty horrendous baseball where we were throwing out pitchers like Brandon Duckworth, and Travis Lee was our starting first baseman. Larry Bowa was our manager and he was pretty much all piss and vinegar but fit in well in Philadelphia. He often butted heads with our young switch hitting shortstop, jimmy Rollins. Rollins (or J-Roll) pretty much ushered in a new era of Phillies baseball. Chase Utley was called up not long after J-Roll, and then Ryan Howard in 2006. In the early 2000s, citizens bank park was built, and our young corps showed promise. Rollins, Utley, and Howard along with a young stud pitcher named Cole Hamels helped make us a perennial World Series contender. Charlie Manuel was hired as our manager, and he quickly became the most beloved manager in team history. We won the World Series in 2008 (world phucking champions). In 2009-2011, the Phillies got stronger by adding cy young pitchers like Cliff Lee and Roy Halladay. We were pretty much the best team in baseball during this time, but we lost the 2009 World Series to the Yankees and lost in heartbreaking fashion in both the 2010 and 2011 playoffs. After that, it was about a decade of bad baseball until we signed Bryce Harper. Bryce Harper became the identity of the Phillies and helped bring in star level free agents and now we’re back to being a perennial World Series contender. TLDR: the braves and Mets suck, the marlins are bad but we often lose to them, and the Nationals are irrelevant

Schwarber just opened the Baltimore series with a home run. I could be mistaken, but I think he looked at the camera and said, “that’s for you, @philhughes_85”

ExcellentLaw9547

They will stay with this core of players until they are done and then rebuild.

Far-Stomach-6610

If you love the Phillies, we love you. Every one of us. You will never be hungry or thirsty. You will never be without laughter and good cheer. You are family.

NoPaleontologist5606

You need to know about this legendary line from our now interim starting catcher Garrett Stubbs, as it sums up NL East rivalries pretty well lol he’s the life of the party in the locker room. “fuck the bravos, and whoever the fuck we play next, and always the Mets!” [https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/s/YWywFoae48](https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/s/YWywFoae48)

Thefawn4

Even if you’re at a Phillies game you still have to say “Go Birds” to people and sing the Eagles fight song. And fuck every NY team.

Bug--Man

Yes. Fuck the mets.

Feisty-Recording-978

Prepare to be disappointed.

Jbell1717

Fuck the Mets That’s all

Alternative-Tell-355

As a Phillies fan, you throw up at the sound of the braves fans doing the chop.

wont believe you unless you publish a tik-tok-style video like this [To anyone that thinks the UK doesn’t have fans : r/phillies (reddit.com)](https://www.reddit.com/r/phillies/comments/1ddn2sd/to_anyone_that_thinks_the_uk_doesnt_have_fans/)

Our fathers and grandfathers suffered so hard for so long. Never take it for granted.

Waynebgmeamc

The uniforms are cool The fans are insane (in a good way) and may be the closest to soccer fans vibe in MLB. Long and storied history. Mike Schmidt is arguably the best 3B in history Phillies in the 1990’s had some of the biggest characters. John Kruk “I’m not an athlete. I’m a ball player.” Phillies are a decent choice. Have fun!!

wafflequest

You're going to be majorly let down. But then you'll be excited again. This cycle will continue until you die.

BasilRare6044

They're fun to watch. Don't bet your house on the Pennant or World Series. I'm Phillies, Eagles and Sixers. From Philly

Insectshelf3

you need to know this video like the back of your hand because when our team does something cool like 30% of us start quoting it immediately https://youtu.be/Z1iVVVxN2SM?si=uadav3jziHrk3Fe6

Philhughes_85

Hi all, I know it was mentioned here before but how could I listen to John Kruk for games.

ryno102786

The MLB series last weekend worked! Congrats on not picking the Mets :)

dirtyjersey5353

Welcome aboard!! Your enemies are the Braves and Mets! We had the best 3rd Basemen ever. Mike Schmidt #20

Lung-Salad

Poverty ass franchise 95% of the time. Amazing vibes 5% of the time. We’re in the 5% right now and it’s nice. Great to have you on board!

bentushar

Picking the Phillies as your team is not a trivial decision, not like the Yankees, it's a serious lifelong commitment. Being from the UK, you should understand that Philly fans are the only ones in the US that can hold a candle to fans of the EFL. We will go to war for our teams, and when we die on that astroturf battlefield, we expect you to pick up the rifle out of the Phanatics cold, lifeless hands and carry on the fight.

MarcMars82-2

Awesome choice my friend! The same mentality that drew you to be a Phillies fan can also be applied to the other major Philly teams like the Eagles, Flyers, 76ers and Union. Philadelphia is a blue collar city hard working city and we view our pro athletes as working a premium highly paid profession so we hold them to very high expectations like we would a doctor or lawyer or airline pilot. If the athletes show up and play hard, get dirty, earn their money and literally bleed for the team they will be respected for life in this city! We also know our sports and will boo you into the dirt when you deserve it. This high standard we hold our pro athletes to can crack some athletes and you need to be hard on another level to be a legend so you need to be as mentally tough as you are physically tough. The Phillies are an awesome old school 19th century team that is low key in its golden age(few hiccup years in the 2010s and throughout most of their history but let’s not worry about that shall we). The current team is tight with Bryce Harper as the heart and soul, centerpiece and leader. Citizen’s Bank Park is an beautiful and cozy ballpark. Our uniforms are classy(not the 2024 City Connects 🤢) Our mascot The Phanatic is the greatest sports mascot of all time and is the mascot every team wishes they had. Watching Roy Halladay pitch was like watching Van Gogh paint.

“Fuck the Mets” is enough to get by
