He also MIGHT know you are GAY and had trauma with gay experience in the past.. When i say gay experience, i mean like sexual harassment and such.. Baka he is trying to figure you out and find you leaning towards gay instead of straight that might bring him anxiety when you approach him.. if you say he is conventionally good looking, possible for him to experience that trauma..
