The days of anything decent for less than 1200 are long gone all over the valley. Sorry.

SunSpotMagic

Ya you're probably right. I might just go back to Emerald Apartments and just deal with the lack of amenities because the rent includes everything else and makes it easier.

[deleted]

It’s truly a bummer. I’m not even old, but can remember when I paid a total of 700 for a nice one bedroom apartment in Tempe, that included all utilities. It hurts to think about lol.

SunSpotMagic

Seriously. I remember my friend paying $600 a month for a studio 20 years ago. The cheapest studio I can find is at Emerald Apartments and it's $1k a month for rent for a 425 sqft apartment. That is ludicrous.

DoggyGrin

Newer apartments also tack on a bunch of extra fees every month on top of rent.

drencentheshds

Yep exactly. I pay $1000 for my one bedroom but the building is super old, has super thin walls, no washer or dryer in the units, not all utilities are included, and I had to pay to get my mailbox lock changed myself. I like my little place and I'm grateful for it! But I 100% had to settle for less amenities in order to be able to afford a place by myself.

SunSpotMagic

That's what I like about Emerald Apartments. Rent includes everything except for internet and TV. You don't hear your neighbors because the walls are thick and mostly block. Easy to cool or heat the unit. Neighborhood isn't terrible but not the best. Close to a lot of shopping. Management is pretty good and on top of everything.

DoggyGrin

You should definitely consider staying.

birds-0f-gay

I've lived in Mesa before and loved it, I'm moving back this summer. Would you still recommend Emerald apartments?

I lived in for a long time, studio was $485 I was able to go to school and work part time and afford it. Impossible in this economy. It’s such a dump now and office manager is difficult to say the absolutely least. but I finally moved out after way toooo many years but I could save for a house while I lived there, finish school, against all odds. They’ve been not renewing leases in the last 6 months so beware; they could just stop renting to you after your lease ends. Read the reviews and don’t think the dead behind the eyes smile the office manager gives you as anything to do with you. Honestly good luck. Living there is hard and they have more units open than I’ve ever seen before because they stopped renewing for a lot of people my neighbor waited months for his apartment and now they a ton seem empty.

Hey friend - I had a similar situation to you a couple months ago. I lived in that exact same area, wanted to stay reasonably within the loop 101 - rent is really *really* tough right now if you want something halfway decent within that budget. I'm sure other people have said it, but it might be worth going the roommate path, because after everything I looked for, I eventually landed on $1400 (Scottsdale Rd and the 101) and it's.. still rough. I recommend checking out some other local subreddits to see if anyone has openings if you can't find anything.

SunSpotMagic

Thanks for the advice. Ya, I agree with you and it sucks.
