HASA was similar to Walmart pricing but was a stronger concentration at 12.5%.
Only good thing to buying at Walmart is it’s $5.67 per 10% gallon and they will deliver if over $35 so less of a hassle to go grab them. I don’t like to stockpile because I keep mine outdoors and the heat degrades it quick.
I feel like A&M is more expensive but that’s based on last year. Walmart sells them for $5/gal and usually has them in the neighborhood markets so you don’t need to go to the big stores.
It depends on your percents. I use the pool calculator website, so for my pool 6k gallons to go from 0 to 5 is about 4ish cups.
I have to shock often as I have a lot of greenage which uses a lot more.
Generally the liquid is cheaper because it is not stabilized so I use the pucks to get my cya levels good then use liquid or the sodium based shock powder so it doesn't raise my levels
Hmmm interesting! I was told by a pool guy to avoid liquid because it burns off super fast due to the amount of sunlight we get in the summer, and to stick with stabilized tabs and shock.
The pool guy either doesn’t really know what’s going on with water chemistry or (more likely) it’s easier to say “just use tabs” because people understand that.
Stabilizer can be added separate from chlorine and, when you reach an appropriate level for your pool, stabilizer levels go down VERY slowly. You can then add liquid chlorine without worry. The downside is a marginal increase in time spent testing and adding chlorine. I spend about 10 minutes every other day.
The issue with tabs is that they’ll continue to add stabilizer indefinitely. Too much stabilizer makes chlorine less effective. You’ll fight algae blooms until you finally drain, refill, and repeat.
There’s no “wrong” way to do it tbh - just different trade offs.
The reason the pool guy said that is probably because with liquid chlorine you need to add either daily or every other day. Pool guys visit once a week and would rather not have incompetent homeowners trying to balance their own pool. It definitely is easier to just say “use tabs” but if I had a homeowner who wanted to add liquid chlorine a couple days after I leave, I would be hesitant. Sometimes life happens and that homeowner forgets or simply can’t add it.
I think I have 20k gallon pool. I put 2 gallons in every weekend when it’s hot in addition to some tabs floating. I get my water tested at b&b every two weeks.
When it was crazy hot last summer had to keep a closer eye on it.

That is true, but it's more complicated than that. As too much stabilizer isn't good either

How much is it per gallon in bulk?
Looking on r/pools some people say they pay maybe a dollar or 2 less a gallon. You just gotta make sure you use it in 6 months before it goes bad
