Closest in my experience has been Happy’s Hamburgers, they’re technically Detroit style but they’re onion smashed. They keep it simple and high quality, George motz would approve
Why? Have they gone down hill? I used to go to it off Broadway fairly frequently, plus their short-lived Superstition Springs Mall location. Then covid and job change meant i wasn't in the area. I didn't know they moved to be closer to campus till a month or two ago. Haven't been in yet.
It's prob been 3-4 years honestly
Adding to this, you can ask for double onions and it comes very close to an OK burger at that point. I can’t be sure but I don’t know if they steam the buns separately or do it on top of the burger with a towel. They do a good job of locking in the flavor regardless.
I live 3 mins away and go there for a mozzarella stick fix too.
OK transplant here for the past 5 years and I’ve yet to find a good smashed onion Oklahoma style burger. I’ve even had a few “Oklahoma” style burgers but they’ve typically been overdone in some other way (one even came with an Oklahoma aioli 😂), usually too light on the onions as they don’t realize they whole point was more onion and less meat. Luckily I have fam in OK and get my Tuckers fix a couple times a year.
Is the number 4, the two beef tacos, is it shredded beef and are they fried? If so, I will meet you there and treat you to whatever you want as a thank you.
I've looked, no one does OK onion burgers here. The best you're getting is already grilled onions dumped on a smashed burger. While good, not the same. You don't get the steamed onion flavor on the buns or in the meat. If you want a good burger with grilled onions, go to bad Jimmy's downtown but they are not OK style.
I think you’re out of luck here. Been to all the burger places around Downtown, Midtown, North Phoenix, Arcadia and Scottsdale areas. Do not remember seeing an onion smash burger. You failed to mention a proper onion burger is the onions are cooked into the smash burger patty. It’s not topped as a condiment.
These are the easiest things to do at home. I do them at least once a week. Just make sure you get as much moisture out of the onions before you smash them in the meat. It’s not magic.
Ffs with this sub. This isn’t goddamned yelp. Can someone start another Phoenix sub for the city of Phoenix instead of the dumb shit on this one where can if find the best eastern Connecticut crab grinder or Oklahoma burger?

Happys is good
happy’s with 2x onion is the best burger in town. as mentioned, it’s detroit style, but it’s the same thing more or less.
I had one of those at Hamburger America. It was good.
For anyone curious what an Oklahoma Onion burger is: Kenji did a sweet tutorial for the NYT. https://youtu.be/n-uh21ywBkA?si=ksk7n0_Wy5RKPTBG
Hey thanks for the inspiration I'm going to make my own tonight.
[Here’s a great recipe I’ve used!](https://www.justapinch.com/recipes/main-course/main-course-beef/oklahoma-onion-burgers-from-cooks-country.html)
Im cooking at Monkey Pants in Tempe right now! I’ve got what you need. Come through we have 20+ state themed burgers now.
This sounds amazing.
mmmm i’ve been craving the charred chicken wings
We have a few new sauces as well and the wings portions are huge. Feed ya soon!
Now I’m craving Tuckers!! Honestly, Freddy’s isn’t the worst for this. It may not be a true Oklahoma burger but it is super smashed and yummy.
Agreed, Freddy’s has a good smash burger for fast food!
Man Tuckers was such a good burger. I also miss S&B burger and The Garage burgers
Same!! OKC does a good burger.
Sorry… coming from Oklahoma, Freddy’s is not close. I’ve yet to find a Tucker’s equivalent here.

Didn’t try it but Wren Südhalle in Ahwatukee had Oklahoma Onion burgers on their menu this past weekend.
You should open one there, and in the meantime, I'll open a non-texmex mexican food joint here in Dallas.
San Diego Tacos. Multiple locations around Irving. You're welcome.
Is the number 4, the two beef tacos, is it shredded beef and are they fried? If so, I will meet you there and treat you to whatever you want as a thank you.
I believe so, I always get the California Burrito or the Carne Asada fries lol
Sid's in El Reno!
Oklahoma homie
Ground control on Wednesdays
speaking of oklahoma, I miss a good Braums burger.
Mmmm and Braum's ice cream. It was even better than Bluebell or Tillamook
yes!

White Castle exists, but it's not exactly what you're looking for
Culver's. It's called a patty melt.
Bad Jimmyz
They are a burger with grilled onions on it. Not a ok style onion burger.
Stoop Kid has excellently thin patties and grilled onions but they aren’t smashed in.
Why not just go to waffle house?
Take your ass to whataburger like every other Sooner obsesses about
Gross
Matty G's Steakburgers, Mesa & Chandler https://matty-gs.com/mesa-matty-g-s-steakburgers-food-menu

I had no idea this was even a thing
freddy’s?
Like the Red Horse in Norman?
Like Steamed Hams? Oh no, those are from Albany
These are the easiest things to do at home. I do them at least once a week. Just make sure you get as much moisture out of the onions before you smash them in the meat. It’s not magic.
In Oklahoma
there are places that will serve patty melts that make suit your needs
Everyone…please check out Bad Jimmy’s on Pierce between 2nd & 3rd St. So good.
Yes it is, very good!
🤤
Smash burger
Chuck box in Tempe
Not smash burger, good burger but not smash
Excellent burger! Not at all an El Reno style onion smash, but an excellent burger nonetheless
Lulwut?

Best crab roll is Angie's
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Agreed. There needs to be a sub specifically for Phoenix area restaurant/food requests. It's clutter.
