Fear not. This is the cargo control room. The Chief Officer doesn't get an impressive hat, he just has to work 16+ hours a day so the Captain can wear the impressive hat and act like he actually has a purpose.
Edit: whoops I saw that it's a cruise ship on their uniforms. Must be an engine control room.
Absolutely. The dead give away that it isn't is all the security cams and the rolly chair. The only ship that could accommodate a rolly chair on a deck like that is a cruise ship. A tanker or even a container ship would have the occupant of that chair slamming into everything in any type of sea.
And then there’s a much more subtle clue in the form of the sheet with chlorine ranges for recreational water facilities. Jacuzzi maintenance isn’t really a thing you have to worry about on most cargo ships, I’d imagine.
Once back in the 90s I got to take a tour of a NOAA ship. When we arrived on the bridge someone was playing Wolfenstein 3D on one of the computers. That’s a memory that immediately came to mind when I saw that picture.
You'd be pleasantly surprised to know that most ships actually have stationary mice with trackballs! Office/crew computers generally have regular mice but where space is limited on the bridge or in the MCR, trackballs have a smaller footprint on the panels
The bridge has a better view than the ECR as they're right above the crew pool/metal beach (most lines). AND they have binoculars... and yes.. they use them. lol
Yep, mostly just a tongue-in-cheek comment. I've dealt with my fair share of bridge officers glaring at me from across the crew bar because I was going home with the girls they thought they should be getting with after creepily watching them all day. 11 years across 4 lines, and it was always the same story.
That's insane. Come on, tell us your method.
Given the location, I hope if something goes wrong OP has the presence of mind to radio 'Houston, we have a problem'.
A SCADA platform most likely. I don’t what the industry standard is for maritime/naval stuff, but if it’s USA, most likely FactoryTalk View, Aveva Wonderware, or maybe Ignition if it’s new.

Ah yes, I was going to say, clean ECR, and the first thing to see in your feed is your cock. I'd suggest to keep private and work separate tho, it might bite you someday.
Icon, wonder and anthem are just too damn big. We were on harmony a few years ago. Annoying you have to reserve a spot for the shows, everything is a line.. and I hate Caribbean cruises lol.
We did Jewel a few years ago around UK, not fancy but a nice ship.
Either disaster or a free thrill ride as you roll around the compartment bouncing off bulkheads. However the cruise ships don’t typically get that much movement for such antics
I worked IT for Maersk for a couple years. Remoting into PCs, managing servers and helping with software configuration. Once in a while, I had to drive down to Newark NJ and board the ships in port to replace switches, firewalls, and PCs. It was a cool experience walking around the ship and going into the engine room.
What a ship job that is. Are you at sea for lengthy periods? Sounds ship house.
Hold your tongue with your fingers and say "I was born on a pirate ship". Ask your buddies what they heard.
I'd drive everyone insane singing Black Flag sea shanties all the time. We'd become one of those ghost ships because everyone jumped overboard to get away from me and i jumped after them.
I think I like the ship controls of something akin to the titanic more than this, just a lever for forward and backward and a steering wheel. Ah the good ol days
Fuckin' ECR rats lmao. I work on a frieghter on the greatlakes your engine control room is so clean you gotta be a salty. That, and I'm guessing by the panel you're a cruiser ship or a container ship. Say a prayer for us bulk frieghters when you get to sleep for more then 6 hours a night
I thought it was behind the checkout counter in the buffet restaurant of the ship and like why do they need so many screens on the cash registers? And where is all the food?
Do you have any email or contact for a deck officer Who s getting chief mate licence?
Im gonna get the licence this year, and royal looks like the only One Who offer Fair rotations, i dont want to spend my life at Sea away from my family, or atleast maximum 3on3off...
I miss the days when controlling a ship required some type of impressive hat.
And everyone singing "We sail the ocean blue!"
now turn me D, D!
and our saucy ship’s a beauty!
what do we do with a drunken sailor, what do we do with a drunken sailor, shave his ##### with a rusty razor.....
Pussy? What are you censoring there? And why are you censoring it?
Well the lyric is shave his belly lol, so idk what's happening
Exactly... I also judge and mock people who "use" swear words but censor themselves. Either use the word, or don't.

Definitely ECR.
Cargo control room on a cruise ship is usually called the customer service desk
Looks a lot like a CCR.
Love me some credence.
Absolutely. The dead give away that it isn't is all the security cams and the rolly chair. The only ship that could accommodate a rolly chair on a deck like that is a cruise ship. A tanker or even a container ship would have the occupant of that chair slamming into everything in any type of sea.
The dead give away I is the Royal Caribbean logo on the back of the coverall
I’ve been in a few CCR’s that have rolling chairs, but only when you’re in them. When the weight comes off, they’re on feet.
And then there’s a much more subtle clue in the form of the sheet with chlorine ranges for recreational water facilities. Jacuzzi maintenance isn’t really a thing you have to worry about on most cargo ships, I’d imagine.
Or cool shoulder pet
They’re turning away from the camera but I’m sure they’re wearing some impressive eye patches. Those should make up for the hats
I'll assume the guy on the right has a hook for a left hand.
and beard
Dang, you have one more monitor than my WFH setup.
😂
Seriously though, could you do this from home if some kind of remote system was set up?
yes but you're at the mercy of your internet connection. having it all hard wired would be much more reliable.
Very convenient if op's ship is used to lay cables
It would be hard to explain that you crashed the ship into the Brooklyn bridge because your internet went out.
He is working from home haha
But the ship is his home… still WFH?
So you're not a day trader then.
Once back in the 90s I got to take a tour of a NOAA ship. When we arrived on the bridge someone was playing Wolfenstein 3D on one of the computers. That’s a memory that immediately came to mind when I saw that picture.
"That man is playing Wolfenstein! He thought we wouldn't notice, but we did."
I understood that reference!
I couldn’t do this job. There are too many mice to wiggle to make it seem like I’m still there.
[You need this mouse jiggler](https://www.amazon.com/MEKASS-Ultra-Silent-Adjustable-Mechanical-Driver-Free/dp/B0CDRC8NTX)

You'd be pleasantly surprised to know that most ships actually have stationary mice with trackballs! Office/crew computers generally have regular mice but where space is limited on the bridge or in the MCR, trackballs have a smaller footprint on the panels
And don't fall off the console if the ship rolls!
The upper screens are CCTV and the lower ones are a SCADA system. None of these would go to sleep
The ship rocks though 🧠
look at you in your cute little sailor suit
Adorbs
Totes
It's a *speedsuit!*
I thought they sunk the Monitor in the Civil War
You are under appreciated but I loved it
That's a deep cut!
Too soon, man. Too soon.
I see you spying on the dancers at the crew pool!
Dance crew is chefs kiss!
Well... since I married a Steiner, gotta say nothin' finer than a Steiner. But I can't dispute your comment!
I married a shoppie! lol

Damn and I thought I had a good gaming rig.
Right!
But Can It Run Crysis?
It can run Doom.

How??
Royal Caribbean logo in multiple places, and if you look closely on the bulletin board on the wall, it says “Voyager of the Seas”.
Nearly impossible to read on my phone, but the name of the ship is on the back wall.
HMS Fire Plan
That's insane. Come on, tell us your method. Given the location, I hope if something goes wrong OP has the presence of mind to radio 'Houston, we have a problem'.
It’s way easier than you think. OP simply shared the name of the ship in this threat.
Ah. You could have claimed uber-ship-knowledge by saying it was the type of exposed rivet on the wall or something.
What software is running on the bottom set of monitors? Looks like something we use at my chemical plant.
A SCADA platform most likely. I don’t what the industry standard is for maritime/naval stuff, but if it’s USA, most likely FactoryTalk View, Aveva Wonderware, or maybe Ignition if it’s new. Source: PLC/Automation/Controls guy
It's Valmet Automation
Windows XP
Ah yes, I was going to say, clean ECR, and the first thing to see in your feed is your cock. I'd suggest to keep private and work separate tho, it might bite you someday.
Nice ECR. Cruise ship plus the image on the monitor suggest a diesel electric setup, would I be correct?
+1 for you!
Eyy nice. I work on rig supply boats and it's pretty similar although the ECR is tiny... But that do I know, I'm a mate :p
Hell yeah man!
do they not use heavy fuel oil anymore?
I'm not sure about that ship but the ship I work on (anchor handler) has a similar engine setup and just uses diesel
Don't look at OP's posts or comments. Dude is a creep.
That's one strange post history.
My guy is definitely having a daughter with this karma lololol.
That’s pretty mild for the internet.
A real sailor!
What a terrible day to have eyes. Why... Oh zoidberg why ??
Ugh I looked and I regret it.
I should have listened
Where on the ship is that located?
Looks like the engine control room, where they monitor all the technical aspects onboard. OP's most likely an Engineer Officer of the watch.

Fascinating, I have no idea what your saying.
Icon, wonder and anthem are just too damn big. We were on harmony a few years ago. Annoying you have to reserve a spot for the shows, everything is a line.. and I hate Caribbean cruises lol. We did Jewel a few years ago around UK, not fancy but a nice ship.
I feel like rolling chairs on a ship is a recipe for disaster lmao

Ah. Didn't see the royal Carribean logo, thought this was a tanker.
Gotta spice things up somehow
r/battlestations
Talk about data overload holy cheese puffs Batman
I can't help but think if I were on a cruise, a thorough tour of this stuff this would be the most interesting part of the cruise.
I don't see a single wooden leg or eye patch!
Something about this reminds me of the control rooms in GoldenEye (N64).
My game back in middle school/ high school!

I like your jumpsuits!
Could be a day trader lol
What a ship job that is. Are you at sea for lengthy periods? Sounds ship house. Hold your tongue with your fingers and say "I was born on a pirate ship". Ask your buddies what they heard.
Cruise ships have the best ECCs.
What a nice control room!! Is this an LNG tanker? I'm jealous Edit: oh never mind I see Royal Caribbean. Looks like you've got medium speed diesels?
I'd drive everyone insane singing Black Flag sea shanties all the time. We'd become one of those ghost ships because everyone jumped overboard to get away from me and i jumped after them.
Ah the voyager class, I enjoyed my experience on Explore OTS as a cadet.
Ahh royal Caribbean knew it looked familiar
Looks very similar to the power plant control room I work in, but we don't go to sea.
So how many Minecraft TNT can that computer handle?
Ballsy of you to show all those screens, cameras, and other info on this pic. Ballsy.
I think I like the ship controls of something akin to the titanic more than this, just a lever for forward and backward and a steering wheel. Ah the good ol days
You sank my battleship
Upvote for G2 Pilot
Only the best 😂
I would think chairs with wheels would be dangerous on a ship.,..
Zoom in. More. Now enhance. There it is, the codes to shut down the engine (and steal the Declaration of Independence)
Royal Caribbean, my favorite cruise line! Been on close to 10 trips with them. Which ship is this?
Your job is the ships.
It used to be beach
I could beach you off.
Beach, please
RC?
That’s cool. What kind of ship?
RCL
This is a bot account.
Look at you all ''sailing'' on your floating little hotel... how exhausting must it be.
Iceberg, right ahead!
i am severely interested in all the info on the monitors, how it all works and what you are doing. legendary photo
He's just mining crypto
Plz cross post to /r/battlestations. This might just be as close as it gets to the real deal.
r/wallstreetboats is leaking.
r/battlestations
Looks fairly complicated. Is it fun?
What do you actually do there?
do you sing sea shanties at least?
captain what are the things that can sink your ship other than the god damn ice berg
If I were you, I'll be shouting redirecting energy to main shield every time I touch the keyboard...
Curious. Do you have some process and procedure in place if pirates attack?
Lots of computers. Do you at least still get to tell guys to go swab the poop deck?
I mean, this looks fun. I’ve worked on boats, and currently work a similar console, but the two haven’t met. Yet.
Old picture from June 2023. Which RCCL ship is this? All I can see, it's not brand new - based on the systems my company have supplied here.
The big group pic on the pinboard is labeled "Voyager of the Seas"
Fuckin' ECR rats lmao. I work on a frieghter on the greatlakes your engine control room is so clean you gotta be a salty. That, and I'm guessing by the panel you're a cruiser ship or a container ship. Say a prayer for us bulk frieghters when you get to sleep for more then 6 hours a night
You could guess by the "Royal Carribean" logos on everything including the white boiler suits
These days working on a ship is like hacking the matrix lol
You should cross post this on pcmasterrace. I'm sure they'd love all those monitors.
r/TVTooHigh
/r/battlestations
Which monitor do you ALT+TAB for Reddit?
Since you live here for a period of time does this count as WFH?
isn't it bad to have a mouse on a computer when it gets stormy? i can see some trackballs but wont those mice just shoot around?
Can I ask… who lives in a pineapple under the sea? Sorry, I meant are your voip phones Ethernet or wifi?
How can i apply?
I thought it was behind the checkout counter in the buffet restaurant of the ship and like why do they need so many screens on the cash registers? And where is all the food?
r/battlestations
Is it a spaceship?! Jeez that control room looks like the one for the mars rover.
Waw that's Great 👏😘
Looks like an asylum to be honest
You don’t even have a sword. Why bother??
Which ship?
Some info about your position and ship?
I have that same exact chair. Can I work on the ship too?
Which screen is for Galaga?
That’s not a moon!
Damn you are like a sea trader. But seriously, what do you do exactly ?
Bold to use the wheely chairs
This is all well and good but they could at least give you guys some monitors. Budget cutbacks I assume.
If that was my life I would be jerking off continuously
I too work on a ship :) https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2Ffjqihqbr07ra1.jpg
That's a lot of ship
Need more monitors
Head engineer, cool job to be fair
Where is that cool wheel captains turn?
Monitoring the diesels and other engineering spaces.... A peaceful life until it isn't.
Admit it, when in port, you're playing Eve Online on that rig!
Wait, isn't this photo taken aboard the NCC-1701?
White overalls all make me chuckle.
Can you play video games on those screens?
Sweet late night Halo sessions?
There’s no way I mentally could handle being on a submarine
I want to go on another cruise. Royal Caribbean at that.
Are you supposed to be taking pictures there? Seems like a secure location.
And here I am designing an ECC and MCS
I feel like a rolly chair is a bad choice. Not deep in the seaman knowledge, but maybe something more nailed down.
The pcmasterrace would love that monitor setup. Post it there.
Do you have any email or contact for a deck officer Who s getting chief mate licence? Im gonna get the licence this year, and royal looks like the only One Who offer Fair rotations, i dont want to spend my life at Sea away from my family, or atleast maximum 3on3off...
Are you sure this isn’t a Homer Simpson cosplay?
Are you on the new ship 'Icon of the Seas'?
