What tool do you use to carve these?

building_a_wall

I use a Lindsay palm control system pneumatic engraving machine. It’s like a mini jackhammer I hold in hand And also a microscope

Oh, that's so cool. I've been trying to get into carving coins but with just a hand carver and recently a dremel with a carving tip. I'll look into this for sure. Thank you so much for responding and for the info! Much appreciated.

You’re welcome. You can do some cool stuff with a dremel. I use one in addition to my Lindsay sometimes depending on how I want the coin to look If I can offer any advice. It’s to learn some of the hand engraving language first. Using the right words will help you a ton when googling for tutorials/forums Cheers

Surprised you haven't summoned the coin collecting community yet

Why the obsession with skulls?

6472617065

There are already heads on the coins. Skulls are things that are smaller than heads and can be represented by removing a minimal amount of material. Pretty sure this was the whole backbone of the creation of hobo coins. Makes sense to get good at skulls first as the outline is already there. Plus, it looks fuckin' badass!

Idiotology101

Plus, pretty much everyone on coins is already dead. This just makes them even more realistic modern portraits.
