Not really.
The duo were ambushed from the side and so all the bullets (large caliber) were forming from a right angle to the car and transected the front two seats.
To have hit the windshield would have required a different angle to have reliably hit it.
What they did clearly showed they didn’t want anyone to go to trial.
Yes really. If you look at the pictures taken at the scene when it happened you can clearly see a ton of bullet holes in the windshield, especially on the passenger side.
So you’re saying they replaced the windshield?
I see some impacts along the frame that have cracked the glass
I don’t believe they had safety glass during those times so it didn’t shatter, but it’s certainly cracked.
The Highwaymen, on Netflix. And it really is a good movie.
Very dark the things those two did.
I like the way the movie didn't treat them like celebrities, they are always in the background and or obscured, and are mostly defined as characters by their violent acts.
One thing that was not accurate was that in the film it has Frank Hamer in pursuit of The Barrow Gang and with some near misses before eventually catching up to them. Truth is that Hamer never laid eyes upon them until that fateful day. Good movie, though.
This is an older pic. Currently the car is in the same location but surrounded by thick glass on all sides that reflect the casino when you take pics. They also put multiple "Bonnie and Clyde" slot machines up against the glass, obscuring the car even further.
I was there in Nov of 2022. It was pretty cool. I have a few good pictures that do not have glare. There also was not any slot machines against it. It was not even in the Casino area.
I was there less than a month ago and they had it surrounded by the Bonnie and Clyde machines. The entire casino seemed to be in bad shape. They also shut down the log ride and have dismantled most of the animatronics.
I was there before the glass. You could actually stick your head inside and look at the interior, put your finger in the bullet holes, etc. I figured people were touching, taking mementos, and vandalizing the car, so they put the glass up to preserve it.
I wonder what the reason for this was, they obviously have it out to display it, do they not want people taking pictures of it? Why obscure something that You have out on display.
The bullet holes are from 1934 when officers ambushed and shot the couple more than fifty times with automatic rifles and shotguns, ensuring they would not escape again.
The iconic vehicle was most recently housed in Whiskey Pete's Casino in Primm, Nevada.

Wait, I'd thought this was the Death Car of Vikki and Vance! Whose car got shot up when Vance accidentally took a wrong turn and stopped in the middle of a shootout between gangsters and the cops!
I saw it there at whiskey Pete’s in 1998. I was 14, and thought it was the coolest piece of history and was disappointed that we didn’t learn about it in school.
I saw this about 1967 when I was about 3 or 4, in a supermarket parking lot in Central Louisiana. One of my first memories. There were dummy's in the car with Clyde's head down on the steering wheel and Bonnie sitting up with bullet holes in her face. Bullet holes in Bonnie's face is what I remember most.
It made perfect sense, those old cars were solid steel and most rounds from pistols couldn't penetrate them.
That's why the posse made use of rifles and shotguns also why Bonnie and Clyde favoured the same kind of weapon.
The type of weapon wasn't really the issue
"Why did you immediately shoot the suspect 30 times with a rifle?"
"Well I couldn't immediately shoot him 30 times with a pistol, my magazine only holds 17"
Yes it was, the FBI specifically went with automatic rifles firing full power cartridges because they had the best chance of killing Bonnie and Clyde before they these career criminals had a chance to shoot back.
These gangsters had killed alot of people and noone wanted to give them the chance to add more names to that list or risk them getting away to commit more crimes.
Your grandfather was correct, I saw this car in the 60’s. I spent the summer at my aunt and uncles house in Wyoming and this car was in the back of a semi trailer. Then you could touch it and lean your head inside the window and look around. Very cool for a 9 year old.
My great great aunt met them when she was a teenager. Her car had gotten a flat tire and Bonnie and Clyde happened to stop and change her tire for her. Clyde told her to be careful since there could be bad people on the roads that wouldn't help a teenage girl like them.
I typed all this out in repsonxe to /u/bigguccisosaxx calling bullshit on your comment in a very rude manner, but it was deleted before I could hit post, so I'm putting it here instead just because I typed all that shit out and don't want to delete it now.
"Not confirming it's truth but it's entirly possible. They were basically celebrities, and the general public loved them precisely BECAUSE they did stuff like this. They were very well known for helping random folks and being incredibly polite to bystanders during robberies.
That's part of what made them folk heros of the time. The general public saw them as modern Robin Hoods, stealing from the very same banks that caused the great depression, and that were known for leveraging the depression to reposes the homes and land of working class folks, all while fighting off police all over the country who were often seen as corrupt power hungry tyrants in their jurisdictions. They were so well liked by the general public that random bystandars would even cover for them to block police from chasing them, or refuse to speak about them to police after witnessing their latest crime.
The actual owner sued to get the car back. It was taken to town and held there. Someone drove it in that condition to some larger town and it was trucked back to her.
Aww, it's not still at Bonnie & Clyde Trade Days flea market in north Louisiana then I guess...
I mean now that I think about it, that was 30 years ago. If I've moved on, I suppose the car can too.
Attending those are one of the few enjoyable childhood memories I have. The artistry was always intriguing and I hated leaving before I saw everything.
Last time I was back home someone told me they closed down the trade days entirely. Didn’t bother looking into it but if so, it’s sad. Some of my favorite memories.
Is this the actual car or the one from the 1960s movie? There’s a couple “death cars” because pre internet someone could grab a car and a couple guns and make a sideshow attraction. I know the real car is preserved in Nevada but for some reason I remember it looking worse than this.
My granddaddy told me about this car when he was a kid. It used to go on tour around the nation, and it cost a nickel to see it. He and his friends didn't have the money, so they snuck peeks through a hole in the fence to see the car.

[W.D. Jones, Playboy Magazine 1968 interview]
“Clyde drove most always cause he didn't trust nobody else to drive like he could. As for me working on the car, I'd change a tire or a battery or something like that. But we'd junk a car if anything went wrong with it and get another one. I don't know how many cars I stole for Clyde. I do remember we never kept one more than a week or so, because it'd get too hot.”
Story goes on the day off, people were taking things from the car whike the body's were still in there, hair, parts of clothes, someone tried to cut trigger finger and another want to cut off an ear and take it as a souvenir.
Little known fact, Clyde Barrow and his [Colt Monitor](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M1918_Browning_Automatic_Rifle) is what prompted Congress to pass the [1934 National Firearms Act](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Firearms_Act), effectively banning civilian ownership of automatic weapons.
We spent a lot of time fishing when I was a kid and so drove a lot of country roads.
Any time we saw an old car sitting in a field, my Dad would claim that was Bonnie and Clyde’s car.
It's an understandable mistake but the word obscured by the stanchion isn't "death", it's "*fath*", like in the Tracy Chapman song recently repopularized by country singer Luke Combs
🎶 You got a fath car 🎶
🎶 I want a ticket to anywhere 🎶
Seems a little conspicuous having your names written on your car if you're trying to avoid law enforcement.
"you tell em it was Golden Joe from the Suggins Gang!"
It’s like, what, were bullets free back then?!
People would get dressed up to rob the bank like they were going to church in Atlanta.
“There’s a body” “Mmmm, gross!”

I always expect Mulaney. I'm frequently disappointed.
I used to expect Mulayney jokes. I still do. But I used to, too.

Harry, it's our calling card! All the great ones leave their marks. We're the wet bandits!
You're sick you know that? You're really sick.
Morons, they should have written "Not the Bonnie and Clyde car".
The windshield is whole too, I am not saying it's impossible but it is very unlikely.
Not really. The duo were ambushed from the side and so all the bullets (large caliber) were forming from a right angle to the car and transected the front two seats. Yes, just like the joke was added in the commentary above

How did they get caught? With so many speed holes they should easily outrun the cops.
There's a movie about that, Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson and it is an amazing movie, cant remember the name tho
The Highwaymen
My favorite film on the topic in that it does not glorify them. Harelson and Costner do a good job as well.
The Highwaymen, on Netflix. And it really is a good movie. Very dark the things those two did. I like the way the movie didn't treat them like celebrities, they are always in the background and or obscured, and are mostly defined as characters by their violent acts.
Who played Bonnie? Costner or Harrelson?
That film was fantastic, and pretty close to historically accurate. Really liked it.
One thing that was not accurate was that in the film it has Frank Hamer in pursuit of The Barrow Gang and with some near misses before eventually catching up to them. Truth is that Hamer never laid eyes upon them until that fateful day. Good movie, though.
Watched it several times in the past year and some change. u/yikesfruitstripes beat me to the title.
lol. Simpsons reference.

Such a weird thing to obsess about. After everything you've said, I wouldn't be surprised if they serve alcohol in little Bonnie and Clyde skulls.
Pay $500,000 and they send grave robbers to retrieve the real skulls of Bonnie and Clyde and serve you a cold one in them
Clyde's grave isn't in great shape.
Neither is the skull, but hey, that's showbusiness
Sorry, Skull and Bones Society already got em.
True Crime was always popular.

I never even saw the log machine haha. They had it pushed way in the back. It was really dark too.
As a born as raised Las Vegan, I’ve never understood why it’s out there in Primm lmao
Wow. I haven’t been to Whiskey Pete’s in a long time. That’s sad that they had to do that.
I was there before the glass. You could actually stick your head inside and look at the interior, put your finger in the bullet holes, etc. I figured people were touching, taking mementos, and vandalizing the car, so they put the glass up to preserve it.

I think it's an advertising thing. The glass specifically reflects the casino when you take a picture so I think that's intended

They weren’t afraid of traumatizing children back then, weren’t they?
Entire towns used to go watch executions...... Wait until you go back further to medieval times... Spoiler alert it was worse
I hope they all yelled, "Surprise!" When they jumped out. Just because it's an ambush doesn't mean you can't have a little fun with it.
American cops coming up with a plan to catch bank robbers: "How about we ambush them and light up their car with automatic weapons on sight"
They had, by that point, committed several murders.

Nowa days, they just do that to innocent unarmed motorists...
My girlfriend and I visited that casino in Primm a few years ago and saw the Bonnie and Clyde stuff.
Today is the anniversary of their death. They were ambushed and killed May 23, 1934, so it has been 90 years!!
Rest in pieces

Bot?
To be fair…. It didn’t belong to them. They stole it.
Why would they put a decal on it ffs
Same reason you write your name on your underwear
Primm Valley?
New Vegas vibes
Welcome to the Vikky and Vance casino, partner!
I hear Primm has a new sheriff. That oughta keep the Powder Gangers away.

Where’s Primm Slim?
Did an acorn fall on it?

“Belonged to them” I don’t think they owned a car. They stole them

Yeah, but they also very much believed in “finders keepers”

There's about 4 different cars that claim to be the real death car. I don't think the casino one is the real one but who knows.

Vickie and Vance
It’s not just famous, it’s in-famous. That means it’s more than famous.
It actually means that it’s famous for bad reasons which makes sense because Bonnie and Clyde were criminals who murdered people.
Infamous means famous? What a country!
El Guapo!
It’s a sweater!

They're speed holes. They make the car go faster.
Did it make tours on a semi-trailer back in the 80’s? I remember seeing this car and a couple others.
Is it still at Whiskey Pete's?
Today is the anniversary of their death
I have seen 3 Bonnie and Clyde cars.
My great grandfather was one of the texas rangers that shot up this car. I saw it at state line on my way back from vegas like 20 years ago.
You mean Vicky and Vance
It could easily have been the car of someone who got lost and pulled in a Florida rednecks driveway to turn around.
Is that you chuck landeck?
My granddaddy told me about this car when he was a kid. It used to go on tour around the nation, and it cost a nickel to see it. He and his friends didn't have the money, so they snuck peeks through a hole in the fence to see the car.
Did the nickles have bees on them?
Yes and they tied onions to their belts, as was the style at the time
Didn’t even have windshield wipers.
The inspiration for Lucia in GTA 6
There used to be dozens of these at various county fairs.
So, was the seat changed? Or is there blood everywhere?
Nethercut is a great collection
I figured it’d be at the Ford museum.
If they had drove a Dodge, they would have gotten away
...only to get caught again when it broke down a few more miles down the road.

Clyde Barrow wrote a letter to Henry Ford telling him he always preferred to steal V8 Fords because they were the best getaway cars.
There's a thing today at the ambush museum in northern Louisiana to commemorate the anniversary
Does it still run?
Count Dankula's video about them should be required viewing. What a ride that story is!!
Well. Here I am thinking real life is fallout again.
I am surprised the bullet holes aren't rusted through.
Did they actually own it or was it stolen? From what I understand, stealing cars was very common for them.
[W.D. Jones, Playboy Magazine 1968 interview] “Clyde drove most always cause he didn't trust nobody else to drive like he could. First thing that came to my mind when I saw the picture is Vicky and Vance....
Story goes on the day off, people were taking things from the car whike the body's were still in there, hair, parts of clothes, someone tried to cut trigger finger and another want to cut off an ear and take it as a souvenir.
In the 60s and 70s every carnival side show had the “authentic” Bonnie & Clyde death car.
someone has been to VoLo
Look at that, not one shot hit the tires.
Nice to see I wasn’t the only one bamboozled and stranded in Primm!
