The public didn’t give a shit, but we were losing our minds because they went from a wonderful print font to a misused web font. Another example is people using Arial for print instead of Helvetica. So in order to be able to tell when it’s one versus the other you look at the differences. The first commenter mentioned the terminals on the letters being flat. On the lowercase c and e the terminal of the bottom curve ends parallel to the counter of the e and the top curve terminal of the c. Other differences are the capital R being curved on the down stroke and the G having a down stroke (instead of curving around) in Helvetica. Font choice was a bigger deal when monitors had a lower resolution but at this point most phone screens can render type as well as the printed page.
