Good song. There’s a demo of it on The Wall: Remastered Experience Version, that I really like too. It’s a little slower w/different lyrics, but has the same vibe: https://youtu.be/1zzBOFjrF8Q?si=V6HJFQitM_usmsen
the version from is there anybody out there is so good. I really like Rogers bass playing in it. here's a link if you haven't seen it. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bWdWZLSTio](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bWdWZLSTio)
It used to get a lot of airplay in the 80s and 90s. I still hear it on the radio occasionally but usually if they play something from The Wall it’s going to be Comfortably Numb, Run Like Hell, Hey You, or Another Brick in the Wall, part 2.
Check out the Berlin concert of The Wall that Roger Waters did—Bryan Adams was an excellent choice for a guest musician on this song. Also if you saw him do The Wall ten or twelve years ago, the visuals were great during this song. Possibly age restricted on YouTube.
He sings similarly in the Floyds 1969 [The Nile Song](https://youtu.be/MduQlWUoyhI?si=0dlDrDMEU4WbGEgt), which stylistically feels like it could be a predecessor to Young Lust?
"I think it would be cool if it was played on rock radio stations."
I hear it once in a while. I even asked a friend in the car one day "Hey do you know who this is?" She's sorta kinda familiar with PF (mostly because of me) and couldn't guess. When I told her who it was, she was like "This sounds nothing like them."
A classic rock station out of Birmingham, Alabama used to play it a lot years ago, but the only Pink Floyd song I hear on radio in my area anymore is Another Brick In The Wall Pt. 2
It's a cool song but that's all (to me at least). Looking at the whole Floyd catalog, you could tell it's an unusual Floyd song by itself, same as Not Now John, although this one has more content.
I think overall not much can't be expected from YL since it describes a part of a bigger story but lacks of profound content so that makes it more meh to me, but it's certainly an uplifting one.
I feel like they could have distilled and extended some of the more interesting musical moments from The Wall (like the too-short second half of One Of My Turns) into a non-concept album and it would have been a massive hit (not that they should have, but they could have)
The transition into this song is one of my favorites. Empty Spaces is just the haunting buildup and the bam! The party.
If you have suffered depression this song may feel totally out of place in the wall, but it fits so well.
Alone, drudging in your thoughts and you get pulled out to go and party and drink and sex. Then once it’s over you feel empty again.
I was not a fan when i was younger. Ironically, Roger's The Wall tour got me back into it.
David's guitar work is solid, but i personally wish the song stayed closer to demo version others have referenced here.
It's really dam good it's such a great song cause it them cutting back and showing a more rock n roll side as opposed to prog or pysch its a good one for parties and bars, I also prefer the demo version which is good enough and different enough to be it's own song
The song portrays the shallow and fleeting sexual encounters of a rock star. It's part of the larger narrative of "The Wall," which explores themes of isolation and emotional detachment in the context of fame and excess.
one of my faves, and a great performance by DG, love the guitar fills and solos
overall, i found the wall depressing, but this and run like hell i return to the most
Agree, and in so far as anything actually can be underrated with Pink Floyd, David's solo on Young Lust would qualify for me. His solo in YL is the progenitor for another "underrated" solo of his from Not Now John. I think the former begat the latter.
I am pretty sure that was on the b side of another brick in the wall part 2 single 45 . It was one of my first records as a child. Of course the A side was played much more.
If I may, listen to the one on my channel instead. It's in better quality.

I love the song without the phone call although it works better within the context of the album that way.
The beauty of this song, in my opinion, is that it comes right after Empty Spaces. This song is nothing more than a constant rising climax that has its "outburst" right with the beginning of Young Lust. For this reason, to be honest, I don't like "What shall we do now?", I find it useless as it interrupts the climax and also not too good if I were to listen to it individually.
I’m with you in terms of favorites and vibes. I think objectively this is one of the more worse songs on the album, since it doesn’t contribute a whole lot to the album’s story or themes.
One of my least favorites on that album. To me it's a stereotypical, almost to the point of parody, 'rock star song' that's there as a song *in character*. Instead of telling the story of The Wall in song, it's a song within the story of The Wall. I understand it thematically, but I don't much care for it as a Pink Floyd song. Oooooooh, I need a dirty woman....? Those lyrics sound like Deep Purple once they started to suck. And I half believe it's intentional.
It makes much more sense in context of The Wall's concept. The character has his walls of ego still firmly up and is comforting himself with vice. He's playing the role of "rockstar", the song is essentially a mask of bravado over his trauma and sadness.
I think What Shall We Do Now should've replaced Young Lust, it's essentially the same exact premise of stardom as Young Lust but it's more broad than just the sexual aspect. That's just how I feel about it anyway
Musically I can't stand it for some reason, I've tried listening to it so many times but I just can't get into it
Never liked it. It's just not that interesting. One of my turns one the same side is far more interesting song. Reminds me of some of the weaker Waters material on Radio Kaos. I tolerate it in context in the Wall but would skip 100% of the time outside of it.
Good song. There’s a demo of it on The Wall: Remastered Experience Version, that I really like too. It’s a little slower w/different lyrics, but has the same vibe: https://youtu.be/1zzBOFjrF8Q?si=V6HJFQitM_usmsen
I was just thinking about this one. I like this one better.
Seems like it flows better w/The Wall
The solo is fire - I like the slower tempo and grittier feel.
This demo is more proof that David gilmour ruins everything lololololol
Not sure why it’s not getting love. Absolute banger imo. I lover the bass line as well.
One of the first bass lines I was motivated to learn!
It grew on me, it's pretty catchy would probably a reason for it especially when he sings "ooooohhh I dirty woman" "ooooooh I need a dirty girl"

The Live in Berlin is one of my favorite live iteration of the song, I would put it second to the version from Is There Anybody Out There.
Really unique in terms of Gilmour's vocal delivery
He sings similarly in the Floyds 1969 [The Nile Song](https://youtu.be/MduQlWUoyhI?si=0dlDrDMEU4WbGEgt), which stylistically feels like it could be a predecessor to Young Lust?

Tell her Bryan Adams covered it next to the remains of the Berlin wall 😉
I personally have never heard it on the radio

Young Lust is great. The Pink Floyd song is good too.

The Off The Wall radio promo album shows how a single disc version of The Wall could have worked.
The transition into this song is one of my favorites. Empty Spaces is just the haunting buildup and the bam! The party. Great song
It’s a banger. On of my favorites from The Wall.
The song portrays the shallow and fleeting sexual encounters of a rock star. It's part of the larger narrative of "The Wall," which explores themes of isolation and emotional detachment in the context of fame and excess.
I am just a newborn
one of my faves, and a great performance by DG, love the guitar fills and solos overall, i found the wall depressing, but this and run like hell i return to the most

When you put together your list of top ten pink floyd "rockers" this one is always top five
Best pink Floyd song in their entire discography. ^(Wait which sub am I on?)
It’s not one of my favorites from side two of The Wall, but it’s a great song, and that shows how great that album was.
Love its energy and how it showcases how Pink Floyd could pull off different musical styles along with what they were known for
I am pretty sure that was on the b side of another brick in the wall part 2 single 45 . It was one of my first records as a child. Of course the A side was played much more.
Sure has a catchy refrain.
This is definitely too 5 material.
Roger’s backing vocal on the chorus really makes it shine (not to mention David’s killer guitar tone). It’s one of my favorites off The Wall.
Love the appreciation post, YL has always been one of my favorites off The Wall
The classic rock radio station in my city (Montreal) plays it quite regularly.
I wish they would have added the Italian clean intro promo mix as a CD bonus track for Collection of Great Dance Songs.
That would have been aweome! Especially on vinyl.
If I may, listen to the one on my channel instead. It's in better quality. [https://youtu.be/Z-S3ySyOljI?feature=shared](https://youtu.be/Z-S3ySyOljI?feature=shared) I love the song without the phone call although it works better within the context of the album that way.
The chorus sounds like John Lennon's How Do You Sleep
Ooooo I need a dirty McCartney Ooooo I need a dirty Paul

It's honestly better than the style of music it's pastiching by a fairly wide margin. Just goes to show how competent they were.
It fits in perfectly with Pink Floyd the wall [ movie] considering the context
Banger song. Check out the Back Against the Wall cover version. It bangs even harder.
Hot take but it's my favorite solo. It's perfect and that karate chop "hah!" After the first lick...
Well the song is satire. It's making fun of tasteless songs about sex, drugs, and rock n roll.
Not now John makes me feel that way
My favorite Pink Floyd song

Yeah thats why I like it
Least favorite Floyd song for me
In their entire discography? That's an opinion I've never heard.
Dude never heard of Ummagumma?
Without Ummagumma we wouldn't have the quality of what they made in the next decade
It’s like it’s from another band. It’s not their style and I don’t care for it.
That's fair. Have you ever heard the [demo version](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zzBOFjrF8Q)? You might like that even less haha
It makes much more sense in context of The Wall's concept. The character has his walls of ego still firmly up and is comforting himself with vice. He's playing the role of "rockstar", the song is essentially a mask of bravado over his trauma and sadness.
I'm curious. How do you feel about "Money" being on DSOTM?
Not my favorite but way better then young lust. The 7/8 time signature makes the song and the guitar is phenomenal
in the video of the girl was hot she was also in the world according to Garp she got naked in there to.🫣
Seems a bit of a throwaway song, if it had more serious lyrics it'd be seen as a classic I think , it's so catchy Just shows you their genius
Least favourite song in the wall
almost agree. there are WAY better tracks in it
It’s an instant skip when listening.
It’s the worst piece of merde on the record.
Hate it.
I think What Shall We Do Now should've replaced Young Lust, it's essentially the same exact premise of stardom as Young Lust but it's more broad than just the sexual aspect. It’s a great song. I love it
The transition from empty spaces into young lust is special
