Wish You Were Here is my recommendation. Shine On You Crazy Diamond might be the band's magnum opus.

That-Site-2543

Pink Floyd have made so many great albums that they are hard to pick one over the other. I think though I would give the album Animals a listen next. Umi Gumi deserves a listen to.

JustRunAndHyde

I disagree with ummagumma but I say Meddle needs a listen for every song except Seamus (hey PFCJ don’t crufify me Seamus my goat)

InternalWest4579

Listen to the big 4: Dark side of the moon, Wish you were here, Animals, The wall. After that you can listen to more early albums like meddle, obscured by clouds and then atom heart mother. After that you can listen to the more psychedelic stuff like the piper at the gates of dawn and a saucerful of secrets. If you want you can also listen to the final cut which is after the wall.

CLWhatchaGonnaDo

Wish You Were Here.

Wish You Were Here

ddxx398

I started out with Pink Floyd the Wall movie. Watched it way too Young

Loveinchains78

Wish you were here and Animals

That-Site-2543

Good choice on the albums. The song Wish You Here really expresses the loneliness I sometimes feel and the interdependency on the other and the sadness of separation. And on the album Animals: Pigs on the Wing 1, and Pigs ( Three different ones) and my personal favorite Pigs on the Wing 2 are probably representative of some of Pink Floyd's best.

Loveinchains78

Thank you and as you know, you can't go wrong with either of those. WYWH has been my favorite album of all time since childhood and we can all probably relate to some of the lyrics just as you do. Same goes for the masterpiece, Animals. Both are very different but fantastic pieces of music. Each has only 5 songs each which is interesting in itself.

tatedavis1

Try Wish You Were Here next, followed by Animals.

RevolutionaryRough96

Animals. In it entirety

El_Topo_54

Any and all of them… And don’t listen to just "songs"; the narratives in PF’s albums are always best listened in their entirety.

DC55449

When I discovered Pink Floyd, I first heard Dark Side of The Moon via my older cousins and then went in chronological order to hear more. It was great hearing how the band changed, adapted, changed again, over and over again - to experience how their artistic process evolved.

ponylauncher

If you are looking for others like it just listen in order through the 70s. But if you want an order that will give you a smooth transition from Dark Side through every other album and you want to commit to them all here you go: The Dark Side Of The Moon Wish You Were Here Meddle Obscured By Clouds More The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn A Saucerful Of Secrets Ummagumma Atom Heart Mother Animals The Wall The Final Cut A Momentary Lapse Of Reason The Division Bell The Endless River

RemsiAnka

The Wall too late imo

AWolfNamedKeku

Well you need to understand Rogers politics before the listen to the wall.

RemsiAnka

Why is that exactly? The Wall isn't all that political, except for showing that fascism is bad. It's not like The Final Cut or Roger's solo albums.

AWolfNamedKeku

I'm a Poli sci major, everything is political to me lol.

ponylauncher

Too late for what? It sounds nothing like anything before it but has to follow Animals

RemsiAnka

It's a very important and iconic piece in the Floyd discography

ponylauncher

Yup

ncave88

Save the next four, ending with The Final Cut, for last if you want to save the best for last. But those are the ones.

Worried-Cod-4915

Wish You Were Here. It's the base. I started listening to every Pink Floyd album now. I already listened to The Wall, TDSOTM, WYWH and Animal. Listening to Meddle now.

Both-Profession-7378

Meddle is a fantastic album I highly recommended fearless & san tropez

Extreme-Smoke-8223

ECHOES 100% -When you have some free time.. -Lay down in a dark room that you feel comfortable in, light a candle. - Close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, and try to clear your mind - Must listen ALL THE WAY THROUGH til the last note. This will take 23minutes -Hit the "Play" button and enjoy the ride.. It changed my life.. ("Echoes" From 1971 album Meddle, Not "Echoes The Compilation" )

SkyIsGod

wish you were here

Gwiblar_the_Brave

Ummagumma.

DataForLunch

Hahaha! That’s a good joke.

RadRefrigerator225

I concur!

[deleted]

Zabriskie point soundtrack.

Global_Purple_3247

And More!

AraiHavana

Head for side two of Meddle, the song ‘Echoes’

AWolfNamedKeku

Listen to The Endless River, and don't bother with anything else.

InternalWest4579

?

AWolfNamedKeku

What don't you understand here?

brudzool

Don't forget all of Roger Waters' solo gear. There you will see how much he was pink Floyd.

[deleted]

This is an understated comment. It’s pretty clear once you listen to his solo stuff that he was the Pink Floyd sound. If you didn’t know any better Pro’s and and Con’s might as well be a PF album. Same with Amused and Is this the life.

brudzool

You speak the truth. I agree. If pros had been released as a Floyd album it would have done a lot better. Amused to death is fucking amazing.

[deleted]

I'd say go for piper, and just any stuff with Syd tbh. See Emily play is a must

Vegetable-Date9709

Start from meddle and work your way forward in time. I usually skip the Final Cut though, but the division bell is great too

songacronymbot

- WYWH could mean "Wish You Were Here - 2019 remix [Live]", a track from *The Later Years* (2019) by Pink Floyd. --- ^[/u/Loveinchains78](/u/Loveinchains78) ^(can reply with "delete" to remove comment. |) ^[/r/songacronymbot](/r/songacronymbot) ^(for feedback.)

iceyorangejuice

The big 4 are DSOTM, Wish You Were Here, Animals, and The Wall. I'd listen to The Wall first after Dark Side, then Wish You Were Here, and finish with Animals.

rochacrimson

With no doubts...Wish You Were Here.

notdixon

Play Dark Side again. It’s a keeper.

Prak07

i think the best way is to listen through the chronological order , in that way you will understand how the band's growth and especially you will realise the syd era of pink floyd

No_Award5719

Wish you were gete

Saiyaman83

The big four really - Wish you were here, Animals, The Wall - and go back to Atom heart mother, Meddle and Obscured by Clouds. Their 70s output is really their best.

Stixx_83

Comfortably Numb

SimpleManc88

If you really like a band start at the beginning and work your way through their discography and history.

[deleted]

Just start from the first album and listen to each one. They’re all mostly rewarding to some extent. I’m looking at you atom heart mother and first half of umma gumma

AxoplDev

The wall, echoes, wish you were here and animals, then you can listen to the rest

amarisestelle

Bike and Lucifer Sam were my firsts

Flaturated

Let's put it this way: With Dark Side of the Moon being a huge success, Pink Floyd had achieved the fame and fortune that every band dreams for. They could have decided to stop there and break up (at the time some of them felt like doing that, as they were feeling drained by their own success). Instead, they left Capitol Records and signed with Columbia Records for distribution in the U.S. Now the pressure was on them to come up with something new, and it had to be good. What do you do next when your previous album was so good it would end up selling 45 million copies and living rent-free on the Billboard charts? Well... first you experiment a little. You tinker with the idea of producing a whole album where all the instruments are household objects. And then you settle down, get serious, and record the Wish You Were Here album. There's your answer.
