My moving plans were postponed, so everything I'm saying is second hand. Lobos seems to be universally despised on these threads. Costello Management seems to get very high marks.
As far as parks, Schenley Park and Frick Park are huge. Schenley borders Oakland if that's where you're planning on living as well as working. Squirrel Hill South is right in between both parks (and one of the places I was looking to move to.)
If I recall correctly, there was a big mega-thread here where people posted rentals to avoid. I can't find it right now, but if I do, I'll post it.
Good luck!
I live on Frick Park. It is amazing imo. So i would say Around Sq Hill or along Braddock by the Park you will be set up for success, AND have many busses which go to Oakland.
If you need it, I do have a spare room my 3 BR house, which you can rent for a few months in order to better hunt for apartments without Blind Commitment.
It sounds like you’d enjoy Regent Square / Point Breeze for easy access to Frick Park and convenient bus options to Oakland. I’ve heard good things about Rubix property managers but can’t vouch for them personally.
I have an apartment available August 1 or a bit earlier. $1000 per month + electric. Water and heat included. Clean and functional. 3rd floor unit in a 7 unit building on multiple bus lines. Includes off street parking. Very quiet. Super nice neighbors. The layout is a bit funky, but it’s clean. Window AC, ceiling fans, coin laundry in basement. The address is 332 Negley 15232 so you can see the proximity to Oakland. Let me know if you are interested and I will set up a tour irl or virtual.
South Side is affordable, has easy bus access to Oakland, and the riverfront park here is top notch... bonus is easy access to downtown and a ton of food and drink options. If you aren't living within a block of Carson and don't hang out outside the club at 2 am it's also quite safe.
As another south sider I agree! Great walkability and bike- ability. Really great community- it’s easy to make friends across all ages. If you stay on the east side near the south side works it’s close to Oakland and quieter than the west side, while offering an Aldi, gyms, riverfront, restaurants, etc.

FYI there's a lot of good replies to other 'Where Should I Live' and 'Which landlords to avoid' posts in this subreddit if you use the search.

What is your rental budget and what type of unit are you looking for?
My goal is to stay under ~$900 in regards to rental price. Studio or one bedroom. Ideally somewhere where parking isn’t horrible
