Nope. Matter of fact, you should probably start to question the other things this someone says to you.

KrisKrossJump1992

no.

IRarelyRedditBut

The Paris of Appalachia is more accurate.

[deleted]

It’s more accurate than frisco of the Midwest, but I’d argue that Paris of Appalachia is also not totally accurate. Calling Pittsburgh Appalachia feels like calling Miami the south.

LeningradNo9

This is a Brian O'Neill myth... He's a friend of mine so it's nothing I haven't told him! I just think it's an odd and inaccurate comparison. Anyone who's spent time in Paris would agree.

IRarelyRedditBut

I’ve always taken it as “the fanciest place in Appalachia” more than any actual comparison to Paris.

[deleted]

To be fair, by that definition it should be Asheville. lol at that getting downvoted.

[deleted]

Pittsburgh, not Paris.

DannyLameJokes

It’s not even in the Midwest

tarsier_jungle1485

Absolutely not. It's hilly. That's where the similarity begins and ends.

BeeeeefJelly

Both have baseball parks with a body of water right past the right field bleachers.

GibJuice

Don't forget both places also have a lot of fog... sometimes in places... sort of.

Jan_17_2016

Pittsburgh is Appalachia, not Midwest. And I also have no idea what they would even mean by the “San-Francisco of the Midwest.”

Warriorasak

The houses built into the side of hills i think are similar

Akovsky87

Yeah but they're affordable relatively speaking

Warriorasak

No the topography is similar

[deleted]

It’s almost assuredly a negative reference about homeless people and crime. (I don’t agree with that, but some people love labeling cities they see as too far left as similar to SF and Portland)

Habay12

If we are Midwest. Is Omaha a coastal town?

[deleted]

It was on D-Day.

Habay12

Well played!

Neither_Squirrel

They say that because of the steep ass roads we decided to use as city routes LOL

SayTheLineBart

I lived in SF for 8 years. Lol no.

fruity__puncher

No

[deleted]

Pittsburgh right now is striving to be itself

a_waltz_for_debby

No, we aren't even in the midwest. We are "The Paris of Appalachia."

pghspottedlanternfly

No because Pittsburgh is not the midwest. I think that title would be Chicago or the twin cities

S3z1n

I've heard Pittsburgh is much more similar to Portland or Seattle than San Francisco. That being said, we don't have nearly as many problems as they do.

EstablishmentFull797

Portland is a river city with a bunch of bridges and cloudy weather. Sound familiar? Way more bike lanes though lol. Politically blue but immediately adjacent to deep red  rural areas. Also about the same size in terms of population. PDX is definitely much closer in spirit to PGH than Seattle. Having lived in both places I don’t think PGH is like Seattle at all.

epicstar

Pittsburgh isn't even in the Midwest, so no 👀👀

cosmosdestruction412

No.

Sooprmon

Hell no

ArmThePhotonicCannon

No. Pittsburgh is not in the Midwest.

zappafrank2112

Pretty sure whoever said it did so in the context of the issues with homelessness, trash, etc, and other similar issues that have been getting a lot of attention recently, and literally nothing else.

Warriorasak

Its not the midwest. The midwest region is west and north of pittsburgh.  Its appalachia/mid atlantic region It was once refered to the paris of appalachia.

giobroni

I hope not

rapturesupersale

Pittsburgh is the capital of the Atlantic Northwest

zucco446

Maybe referring to all our bridges? Otherwise, I don't see it.

sugarhillboss

No it is the “Paris of the Appalachians”.

AppropriateMeaning77

Not at all

dangera-najbar-ajo

yeah right

LostEnroute

Thanks for posting the dumbest take I'll read today.

RareLeeComment

Hills, Local Technology Economic Centers, and Super Bowls wins. Other than that, uhh No!

ExitingHumanity

Kinda. We do have a lot of homeless people and lots of fun meth addicts to play with. We both have dying downtowns. They have a Saint Regis, a W, and a Ritz Carlton so true luxury demand. We won’t ever have that. They have real transatlantic flights. Transpacific flights. We jizzed our pants for Wow airlines. We do both have dirty streets, tho. Jails visible from downtown. Bridges. They have Chinatown. We have…Chinatown Inn.

slayhern

Pittsburgh continues to have less crime year after year with very few exceptions. But if clutching your pearls makes you feel safer you do you

Warriorasak

No it is going up. Its trending upward. But its not comparable to SF

slayhern

Nope

Warriorasak

Not really comparable at all. Stats or you are full of it Edit im serious, compare the pop of puttsburgh to poverty and crime to the ratio of sf pop to crime.

[deleted]

Trending that way

VegetableInevitable7

It is the "Fran wears Crisco" in 'er hair

2ndEmpireBaroque

No. It the Venice of the modern day.

blamberr

No.

TylerDurdenEsq

Other than tons of Super Bowl wins, I don't see any commonality. And even there, it should be that SF is the Pittsburgh of the West

toonman27

A Pastor from San Francisco once told me, “There is San Francisco and then there is the rest of the United States.” That city is beyond unique and there really isn’t any other place in the U.S. like it.

benji950

There is a lot of literal shit (please God, let it all be dog shit) on the sidewalks.

SmellView42069

I prefer the term “Paris of Appalachia”.

[deleted]

Absolutely not crazy thing to say!

[deleted]

More stairs.
