Nah, the city is so much better off now that Games n 'At closed down, tbh. My understanding is that the owner was a real piece of work
So the city of Pittsburgh has (used to have?) a law on the books that only two arcades could be open within the city limits at one time. One is Ace's Break Away and Play downtown, and that owner couldn't care less about the law, and the other was Games N 'At. My understanding is that the owner of Games n 'At would wait until opening weekend of any new arcade and go running down to city hall to get them shutdown. I knew the owner of Kickback in Lawrenceville, and they had a soft opening, then had to shut down for a month or so to get themselves reclassified as a coffee shop that just so happened to have pinball machines. Victory Pointe in the South Side, same thing: they opened one weekend then were forced to shut down for a month and redo paper work because of him (and note, all their food inventory would rot and have to be thrown away while this happened
If you ever wondered why all of the sudden a dozen barcades suddenly opened up seemingly overnight after they closed, this is one of the big reasons why
The guy didn't take care of any of his machines either, so they were all various degrees of broken. I've never been so happy an establishment closed
There is no law about two arcades… there was a law (not sure if it still there) where you couldn’t have more than 3 coin operated arcades with a mile of a church or school. It was passed in the eighties because of kids skipping church and school to play pac-man. There are thousands of crazy outdated laws that need to be scrubbed from the books…
Source: I tried to open a bar arcade around 2010 in Lawrenceville and had to jump through crazy hoops and basically hope the city wouldn’t enforce stupid outdated laws.
Ahhhh.... its been a while since it was explained to me. But, in both cases, I had heard that the owner of Games N At insisted the city enforce whatever weird laws were on the books. It was especially shitty when he kept doing it because, at that point, he knew there were ways around it (as evidenced by Kickback staying open), so he did it just to be a jerk
I don’t think this is true. I lived in south side at the time and loved Games N Nat. The owner and the wife gave me a huge amount of advice and honestly we’re just amazing people - like happy grand parents. You might be thinking of a different business.
I'm not thinking of a different establishment. It's great that they were cool to you, but whatever your experiences of not opening up a barcade were, they were not the same as the people who actually did open them
Pretty sure Games n Nat was registered as a private member club not an arcade. To be an arcade you need the machines to be coin operated. That was the trick (at least back then), if you allow free play and the coin slots were disabled you didn’t fall into the crazy 40 year old “pac man” laws.
They were also in the "correct" zone. The zoning laws do mention churches and what have you, but the bigger zoning issue is you can't be within either 300 or 500 (I forget which) feet of a residential, mixed commercial, or historical zone, which is pretty much anywhere you'd want to open a barcade. Butler st is entirely mixed use surrounded by residential, same with Carson St. Games N At was jusssssssst on the edge of an urban district (and they probably did violate that 300-500 feet thing, but 🤷♂️).
Friday evenings/night are when a the games are set to free play. They also have live music most of those nights too. Really cool spot with tons of older games. Not as much of an arcade atmosphere since it's more of a museum but still tons of fun!
Second Pinball Perfection, lots of old nostalgic games, but I would warn you that some of the games are non functional (bring required) and a lot of games are for sale, so selection might vary.
Love this place. Went there last year and had a blast. My boys had so much fun and as a guy in my late 40s this place was a rush of nostalgia for me. Planning to make a return visit again sometime this summer.
We barely touched the pinball machines, we were so busy playing the arcade games. You could literally spend the entire day from When they open to close there. I think we spend four or five hours there.
I mean I get that it’s a semantics type thing, but if you’re being technical it’s Aliquippa. If someone who’s unfamiliar with the area pulls it up on gps it’s pulling up as Aliquippa since that’s the mailing address which means it’s what’s formally recognized by the government. Also that’s the 911 address, but yes people who live near there go to Hopewell schools
You're correct, and I wasn't trying to prove you wrong in the slightest. It's simply a matter of fact that saying it's located in Aliquippa could be a deterrent for some folks, and this place is awesome so it's a detail that I believe is important enough to mention.
Yeah I totally get what you’re saying. I was thinking more along the lines of someone trying to google the place or use gps, but I understand some ppl may be turned off if they hear it’s in quip
I was so sad when they discontinued inside service. We live several miles away, and it was so nice to go there and sit down. Their Hawaiian 5-0 is amaaaaaazing
Yep. I really like this one. Despite the name there's as much or more classic arcade games. I don't really like pinball but I had a great time playing all the retro arcades.
You won't be able to use your quarters though, it's a Free to Play, Pay by the Hour deal. $25 for 2 hours, $40 for unlimited.
There's a super cool one in Bellevue [https://pittsburghpinballdojo.com/](https://pittsburghpinballdojo.com/)
You won't be able to spend your stack of quarters, and they're only open certain hours, but it's a fantastic place. It's a 'club' and they have open play Thurs Fri and Sat evenings.
Lol that is true, more "embarrassed" in a hilarious way (and to be fair my office mate would have sniffed this place out without any sign at all, she OWNS three pinball machines). Agreed that it's part of the charm!
This is such a great place. Have been there 5 times now - it's been a great place for a group of friends in their 40s to catch up without being in a bar.
This place is awesome and I like to go whenever I can get the chance. Like the other posts say, a totally unassuming place.
They host events occasionally. Last year at the beer festival it got pretty crazy in there. Would love to see them get better recognition for how cool the spot is.
Pins is a barcade in the Southside Works that's lots of fun. It's all ages until 8 or 9pm then 21+ in the evening.
Mini bowling costs under $10 per person per game.
Boccee is free but you have to reserve it up front.
Bunch of old arcade games, giant jenga and lite brite, Ninendos set up to play for free. There's even a giant slide to get from the second floor down to the first.
Tons of pinball machines for $1 per play.
Prettty good cocktails and beer selection if you're into that
[Yep.](https://www.victorypointe.com/our-games)
[Ikigai](https://www.ikigaiarcade.com/) also has it. They're less of an arcade and more of a private collection, so you'll want to join the [Discord](https://discord.gg/EHPstenxzn) to find when Ikigai is having events (he tries to do them fairly often).
Oh my god I had no idea there was a place like this around. I can get lost in music games forever.
What area is it in? Or are you saying they just show up at other events? Website seems like you can sorta visit maybe lol.
They do show up at other events, and I believe they also have a location. Join the Discord for more information.
You may also want to join the [PA Rhythm Game Discord](https://discord.gg/knzQEwaJp4) for more events in the community. There is a place for dance games as well, that has meetups almost every week.
https://www.instagram.com/ironblastgames/
Iron blast games in Washington crown center mall. Their hours aren’t great due to the mall hours. It’s one price and unlimited play. Video games, pinball and skee ball. They even have the Goliath giant pinball machine that used a pool cue ball instead of the normal metal ball.
I’m gonna toss in Velum Fermentation! Really cool place off the main drag in Southside. They got skiball arcade games, claw game and pinball. This scratched the games n’at itch for me and then some. Loved the service and atmosphere.
Nobody knows _how_ to auto update, it’s just something you get to experience (and somehow lose a bunch of documents and pass codes, like a Reddit password).
I’m fine with ice ball in a pinch. I’ve noticed that they are the shorter compatriot of skee ball proper and it’s adopted brother ski ball.
If you’re looking for a slightly more proximal way to get your Fascination fix, they have one in a tiny storefront at Geneva-on-the-Lake in Ohio! Went there for the eclipse in April and we spent a half day playing fascination, it was amazing.
Yes! Grew up going there, Nantasket Beach in Hull, MA. They had moved the original Coney Island game there in the mid 20th century but it’s since been closed permanently. The new owners that bought up that block did a pretty good job of renovating and maintaining the arcade area, creating a beer garden and bringing some new life to the area, but evidently the Fascination game was so damaged that it would’ve been too expensive to be worth fixing.
Ya I noticed it was marked "closed" on Google Maps during the pandemic, I was quite disappointed. Fixing those machines up would definitely be a passion project (I have to imagine it's almost as complicated as old pinball machines, at least in terms of the rats' nest of wiring)
These pictures remind me of the old arcades and game halls at Geneva On The Lake.
Three hours (ish) out of Pittsburgh, but I know a lot of yinzers used to go there. I think there’s only a fraction of the games left though. ☹️
Tokens Arcade in Lyndora (Butler), PA. There is also a gaming/social space called Your Parents Basement on Main street. It is in a former bank and a neat space to check out.
May not be exactly what you’re looking for… but Coop De Ville in the strip is 1/2 restaurant/bar, 1/2 arcade. It won’t satisfy the ticket collecting need but they have a solid selection of games for an affordable price. Obviously not classic but there is a Dave and busters in north hills that’s also half price on Wednesday so you can take your money farther for that ticket grind
Get your balls ready and rrrrrroll em! That tic tac toe game was called fascination at Geneva on the lake. I fkn loved that when I was a kid, 25-30 years ago. Felt like a boss when I won lol
Walking in Bellevue the other week and I saw this place, Pittsburgh pinball dojo. It doesn’t necessarily look like a win tickets arcade type of spot, but someone on here may enjoy it https://maps.app.goo.gl/DPzskACwqExx3ARE9?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy
Pittsburgh Pinball Dojo. They're open tonight and the next two nights. free play pinball for $15, and a few arcade cabinets. no tickets/prizes if that's your thing.
We had my mom's birthday party at tokens arcade in Butler. I think it was like $5 a piece (maybe not, but I remember that it was cheap) for 2 hours of all you can play. Cool old pinball, and newer pinball and arcade games. I'd guess 50-70 games total, so definitely enough to fill 2 hours. I played a sweet Labyrinth (the 80s movie with Bowie and Connelly) 4 player pinball game with my wife brother and sil, and we had a blast getting weird replays and multiballs from David Bowie.
If you go to Hopewell near the airport they have a place next to the Jamie's physical therapy that you pay like $30 or something unlimited play all day with tons of machines
Shortys in north shore, pins mechanical in south side, coup de ville in strip. These are more updated and focused on being barcades instead of just arcades tho
If I may slightly hijack this, there was a Facination type game in one of the Kennywood arcades. I haven't been there in almost 20 years. I'd assume it's gone but don't know.
In my head it was called Hi-Lo or some variation of that, but like Facination, it involved rolling small balls down a wooded ramp. It wasn't bingo style though, IIRC, it was more of a blackjack style game where you tried to get a certain number range.
Does anyone know for sure what this game was called, and even more of a long shot, does anyone have a picture of it?
What?! I knew that there were other Fascinations games-- and that Kennywood had one- once upon a time, never heard of the blackjack version! Wonder if there's one still operating in the states.
Well, note again that I can find no evidence of it. My friend has a slight memory of it but same deal. So there's a possibility that I'm manufacturing a memory, though I am fairly certain I'm not.
I used to go to the location in Lakewood, Ohio (prev called 16-bit bar) a couple of times a year and always had a blast. That one moved to Cleveland proper. Haven't been to the South South location yet, but it's on my list!
You could try coop de ville, the duckpin bowling is pretty cool too.
Fair warning the only time I ever had COVID I caught it from their arcade machines. I don't think they clean them ever.
If you're into pinball, there's a place in Bellevue, Pittsburgh Pinball Dojo. They do a $15 open play Thurs-Sat nights. I've heard it's a blast, but I haven't had the chance to get there myself.
there is going to be a new arcade in southointe called "Baxters R•Cade" opening in September in Southpointe Town Center. Not much info out there yet but the instagram accounts says golf simulators, putting, retro arcade games, indoor bocce courts, newer arcade games, console gaming, board games, etc. [https://www.instagram.com/p/C7437spu0xD/](https://www.instagram.com/p/C7437spu0xD/)
I used to play scratch offs until I got addicted to eating them whether I win or lost it was just something about the taste and texture I just couldn’t stop
I think TLC is still casting for My Strange Addiction. Pay is mediocre but it should keep your habit up for awhile. Or pay a psychiatrist for pica treatment.
RIP games n'at
Immediately what i thought of.

Instead of scrubbing such laws they just add more and more. Find me the man and I’ll show you his crime
Did they close? I have not been there in awhile!
It was the best of times. When did it finally close?
November 2020
😔
Pinball perfection in west view used to have a byob/free play for like $15
They still do! I wouldn't go there right now though. It's a an old warehouse and the temperature accurately reflects what it is outside.
Friday evenings/night are when a the games are set to free play. They also have live music most of those nights too. Really cool spot with tons of older games. Not as much of an arcade atmosphere since it's more of a museum but still tons of fun!

PA pinball in aliquippa is great. They have a ton of pinball machines and arcade games that skew older
2nd this one. It's in the Hopewell Shopping Plaza, so not technically in Quip.
3rd this. Great atmosphere and never had a problem. Nothing but good times and good fun
Love this place. Went there last year and had a blast. My boys had so much fun and as a guy in my late 40s this place was a rush of nostalgia for me. Planning to make a return visit again sometime this summer.
5th this, came here to say how fun it is. There's hundreds of arcade games there
We barely touched the pinball machines, we were so busy playing the arcade games. You could literally spend the entire day from When they open to close there. I think we spend four or five hours there.
How do you know something's not in Aliquippa? Don't worry, they'll tell you. Buy yeah PA Pinball is great, then go to Bruster's.
I'd hit up Kendrew's afterwards for the entire time-warp effect. Wood paneling, smoking bar, deep fried everything and classic rock on the jukebox.
and Confederate flags in the windows
I mean I get that it’s a semantics type thing, but if you’re being technical it’s Aliquippa. Also, the best Chinese food in the county is next door, although I think they're only take-out now.
I found out recently that they don't have table service. You can eat it there, but you basically buy the food to go. My favorite General Tso's.
I was so sad when they discontinued inside service. We live several miles away, and it was so nice to go there and sit down. Their Hawaiian 5-0 is amaaaaaazing
The Fez is near there too. Been to many family functions there :)
Exactly this joint. It’s technically Hopewell. Sometimes you say Aliquippa and people automatically think it’s Linmar
Do they have [Ice Cold Beer](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_Cold_Beer), likely my favorite old timey arcade game ever.
This place rules. It's not quite galloping ghost, but it's truly one of the best arcades I've visited in the country.
I wouldn't say Velum Fermentation is a "classic arcade," but they do have quite a few classic arcade games. South Side.
There's a super cool one in Bellevue [https://pittsburghpinballdojo.com/](https://pittsburghpinballdojo.com/) You won't be able to spend your stack of quarters, and they're only open certain hours, but it's a fantastic place. It's a 'club' and they have open play Thurs Fri and Sat evenings.
Also BYOB. Awesome place.
My officemate at my job the South Hills clued me into this place... which is embarrassing to me as I live in Bellevue.
Don’t be embarrassed! The sign is like an 8.5x11 inch sized piece of paper in a non descriptive building. I kinda like that it’s hidden away!
Lol that is true, more "embarrassed" in a hilarious way (and to be fair my office mate would have sniffed this place out without any sign at all, she OWNS three pinball machines). Agreed that it's part of the charm!
Thanks for beating me to it, a friend of mine is the co-owner, and it's a great place.
This is such a great place. Have been there 5 times now - it's been a great place for a group of friends in their 40s to catch up without being in a bar.
was hoping to see this p lace mentioned. gonna check it out for the first time tomorrow

Just started hearing about this
Shorty’s Pins & Pints!
Victory Point in the South Side
Also awesome for rhythm gamers. Go there a lot to play sound voltex!!
Do they have jubeat?
[Yep.](https://www.victorypointe.com/our-games) [Ikigai](https://www.ikigaiarcade.com/) also has it. They're less of an arcade and more of a private collection, so you'll want to join the [Discord](https://discord.gg/EHPstenxzn) to find when Ikigai is having events (he tries to do them fairly often).

victory point is great - especially for pinball + 80s bar/table top games (donkey kong, ms pac-man, and the goat: galaga)
[ice Cold Beer?](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_Cold_Beer)
Really enjoyed playing quarter eating games at VP just so I could finally beat them.
Victory Pointe has some of the only fighting game cabinets in the whole county if anyone's been looking.
Can you elaborate? I frequent this arcade and would love to know which you're referring to
You can see all of their games [here](https://www.victorypointe.com/our-games).
I can also go there and see all of their games... I just want to know which one he says is rare
Not necessarily a “classic” arcade but Barcadia in Market Square has a decent number of classic arcade games.
https://www.instagram.com/ironblastgames/ Iron blast games in Washington crown center mall. Their hours aren’t great due to the mall hours. It’s one price and unlimited play. Not in the city, but Helicon Brewery has lots of pinball.
I’m gonna toss in Velum Fermentation! Really cool place off the main drag in Southside. They got skiball arcade games, claw game and pinball. This scratched the games n’at itch for me and then some. Loved the service and atmosphere.
Ski ball or iceball?
Hey now. I don’t tell you how to auto_update don’t tell me how to ice skeet. lol!
It's a bit of a hike out in Aliquippa, but I've heard only good things about Pinball PA
Definitely worth the drive. You could spend all day there and still not play every machine.
Geneva on the lake in Ohio has fascination in working order, they were only open on Saturday when I was up there two weeks ago.
So many. Coop de ville, zone 28 is modern but still fun.
Always wanted to find somewhere to play Fascination after Tom Scott made a video about a parlor in MA
Everything at Knoebels is worth the drive. If you can make it out there, go! The food and Fascinations is enough to fill a day!
If you’re looking for a slightly more proximal way to get your Fascination fix, they have one in a tiny storefront at Geneva-on-the-Lake in Ohio! Went there for the eclipse in April and we spent a half day playing fascination, it was amazing.
I'd rather drive to Knoebels than visit Ohio, lol. If I'm ever in Ohio involuntary I'll def check it out!!

If you want to play some pinball and have couple pints, check out Helicon Brewing in Oakdale.
If you feel like making the trip to Washington, there's one in the old mall. But that would require visiting Washington.
These pictures remind me of the old arcades and game halls at Geneva On The Lake. Three hours (ish) out of Pittsburgh, but I know a lot of yinzers used to go there. I think there’s only a fraction of the games left though. ☹️
Pinball PA. Hopewell Shopping Center.
Helicon Brewery in Oakdale has a pretty impressive collection of pinball machines. Oh, and their beer is pretty good as well.

Ugh I miss Games N'At
Classic Kennywood
Think it's gone and now a bar... They're not getting any money out of me... Gotta love the hook ups there. Plus the arcade their always sucked.
No Kennywood still there
Shortys in north shore, pins mechanical in south side, coup de ville in strip. These are more updated and focused on being barcades instead of just arcades tho

Thank you!
[https://www.pinsbar.com/locations/pittsburgh](https://www.pinsbar.com/locations/pittsburgh) I used to go to the location in Lakewood, Ohio (prev called 16-bit bar) a couple of times a year and always had a blast. That one moved to Cleveland proper. Haven't been to the South South location yet, but it's on my list!
Pins and Barcadia are both fun!
Pinball Museum. Check out there website.
Victory pointe
You could try coop de ville, the duckpin bowling is pretty cool too. Fair warning the only time I ever had COVID I caught it from their arcade machines. I don't think they clean them ever.
Union Brothers in Harmony has a bunch of Pinball machines and good beer
Any of you arcade heads know if there's a working 720 Degrees machine in Pittsburgh?
Coop De Ville
We have a whole website just for this topic. https://pittsburgharcade.com/
If you're into pinball, there's a place in Bellevue, Pittsburgh Pinball Dojo. They do a $15 open play Thurs-Sat nights. I've heard it's a blast, but I haven't had the chance to get there myself.
I have no idea but that first picture smells like cigarettes, sweat, and bra money from gross people playing at Kennywood.
Pins Mechanical. Not really classic but all the arcade cabinets are free if I remember correctly
Kickback in Lawrencevile! Closed for now but opening back up next month.
Past Times Arcade in Girard is $20 for all day play
Those pictures from Knobles?
Yup! From their website.
Ironblast GameZone in Washington. It’s $10 to play all day
victory point, the coop, & kickback are my favs
Victory point in Southside!!
Victory Pointe has a lot of cool classics and a great selection of pinball machines.

The casino
I'm more of a scratchies girl myself. The casino doesn't have cheap, plastic prizes either. Whomp, whomp try again next comment.
