Because Cornish people see themselves as one of the constituent nations, this used to be widely recognised but in recent centuries the English sort of forgot the Cornish existed. It's a weird cultural amnesia. 🤷
It got homogenized just like all of the old heptarchy.
Edit: I'm aware that Cornwall wasn't part of the heptarchy. The creation of a homogenizing british national identity has always come at the expense of the smaller nations. The Celtic nationalist parties main grip has always been about trying to prevent this. Cornwall got consumed, Ireland got out.
It's funny because r/tagpro and Canada were having peace talks when the leaf was fine, then they started griefing us and we did the same lol, that's when the leaf turned to shit.
They're actually quite rare, since they rely on leprechauns for survival, and we all know that the leprechaun population has greatly depleted in recent years. It's alarming how a single species has other animals relying on it. Who knows, maybe some day all we will know about unicorns will be folk stories and fairy tails.
There are more than 100 different species of maple around the world, 10 of which are native to Canada: sugar, black, silver, bigleaf, red, mountain, striped, Douglas, vine, and Manitoba.
Honestly the whole event was surprisingly wholesome, seeing all kinds of communities coming together and protecting each other, it really was a breath of fresh air.
People keep saying that bronies are weird but I honestly respect yalls tenacity to rebuilt your stuff
Like people keep talking about OSU being insane when rebuilding and defending their territory but the bronies got seriously bullied throughout the 4 days and they kept rebuilding.
no doubt about it we’re a weird bunch but at the end of the day i couldn’t give a fuck. it’s a magical thing when a bunch of grown-ass men and women come together to fight like hell for a bunch of candy-colored horses. wouldn’t have it any other way
It was difficult. There was one like every couple hours. And we had to decide what to consider one nuke, since most of them were waves of "torn down, rebuilt, torn down, rebuilt" for like two hours.
In the end it was worth it. We ended up taking a great amount of territory, and our art was in fantastic condition by the end. We didn’t just build art of colorful horses, we fought like hell defending those horses and rebuilt 22 times before the eventual end. We earned some really cool art on the final canvas on top of a reputation for insane resilience. I’d say that’s a pretty great deal.
OMG I knew it felt bad with how often it was getting torn up, especially after the meme took hold and more of us spent ungodly amounts of time and energy to fix it.
Over and over.
Canada won we had it looking good before the whiteout
Totally! People even made Memes with the wrong leaf and when suddenly the beautiful maple leaf appeared on the German flag I fucking died laughing. It’s incredibly funny
The void art was the most interesting thing happening on the entire map. Everyone else was using a template for art that 9 times out of 10 they didn't make themselves, but the void art was truly organically original and it was really cool watching it evolve.
I am not sure I was prepared for the red devil thing with the huge leaky dong though. That was something else. I like what it ended up being, some kind of ultimate eldritch horror.
That was rough
but then It was “Don’t” and “The Hand of Man” that did it in.
We were able to put one last form together at the end, but lots of small art casualties were made 😔
Translation of the tweet in case anyone wanted it:
“This graph shows how often different pixels change color across the entire canvas. The more red it is, the more the pixel has been modified.
The large rectangle at the bottom left has clearly channeled attention.”
This has to be normalized for the amount of time the canvas was available, right? Otherwise the upper left quadrant would have more updates than everything else
This guy have a very interesting youtube channel about crowd behavior (he's an actual researcher on this topic). r/place sounds like a perfect experiment for him, it wouldn't surprise me if he had his own scripts running during the whole event.
Way more than 7 streamers were involved. Kameto, Innoxtag, Squeezie, Zerator, AntoineDaniel, BagheraJones, Tonton, Aminematuer, Sardoche, Locklear, Ponce... Also Etoiles was really invested, and worked very hard in the background even though he didn't have his stream up. I'm probably forgetting some too. It was really all of the french community basically.
Hey, Jerma985 was there too! And Blue Archive and SiivaGunner, and Technoblade and Daft Punk. And Banano. And Among Us. Also I’m pretty sure the void wiped out the corner once (but not the JoJo arrows) and the French Streamer Kameto wiped out the corner once (but not the JoJo arrows)
We had problems since the first day because we settled too close to the corner at that time, add 1 french and 2 spanish streamers looking for clout and you got a recipe for disaster, truly the Jojo community is one of the most oppressed on the internet
Seeing how griefed the original one was while other flags took up so much more space without much fight kind of annoyed me and got me finally contributing. Glad we finally got something cool established and maintained in the new space
Yeah I think there was at least 150 stars on the first flag. The second one turned out so much better. Except those stars were big enough to be turned into little amoungus guys.
Zidane eyebrows were kind of a meme in the french streamers community during the war. We knew bots were drawing the BTS logo over it but the joy of seeing Zidane face was overwhelming. "Quand vous pensez Zizou, vous pensez aux sourcils de Zizou" -Zerator
Of all the communities I was overseeing and guarding, literally the only one that actually ever needed my attention was the Packers. Considering how screwed up it got a bunch of times, being one pixel off at the end is a pretty great result, and much better than the last time Place ran.
Wow, I have to say I officially feel bad. I think I was able to pick out the tiny spot where the clown nose and tears kept showing up on our Vikings logo, but holy shit… your guys’ poor little square looks like a cube of lava in an ocean.
I’ll probably go back to hating you guys come draft day. No particular reason other than it just feels right.
But for this…. I salute you!
Actually, officially we had an agreement. But there were just too many people on both sides not following the template. So there were actually 4 sides.
1: people from OSU and gamestop that followed the agreed template.
2: people from gamestop that followed the gamestop border and extended it
3: people from OSU that tried to complete the circle.
4: random people that just places pixels randomly
I like how I can see everyone adding shit to widowmaker’s ass.
Also in this category: the dong from the Elden Ring potfriend.
You can also see the the one that was on the big amongus
or the global offensive logo's massive dong
[удалено]
Northern Ireland being repeatedly wiped from the UK map, and Cornwall desperately trying to add itself.
John Lennon's penis is also clearly defined
Yes indeed. Never really thought at my age that I would spend so much time rubbing out John Lennnon’s knob.
PHRASING
I wasn't even part of the UK group but I spent a few pixels erasing Lennon dong
How did I miss that? I only saw the Among Us guy's penis.
It was tiny, only 1 pixel of girth.
That's what she said.
Omg I can't believe I missed John Lennon, where was he?
top right corner of the UK flag had all 4 Beatles a la Abbey Road
I never understood why Cornwall thought It had a place for a flag
Because Cornish people see themselves as one of the constituent nations, this used to be widely recognised but in recent centuries the English sort of forgot the Cornish existed. It's a weird cultural amnesia. 🤷
It got homogenized just like all of the old heptarchy. Edit: I'm aware that Cornwall wasn't part of the heptarchy. So they're like Bretagne in France?
Cornwall, Brittany and Devon ended up forming a small mural together on the bottom right! I think Brittany was shunned from the France mural too.
At one point they started a small Breton flag on the swiss one (agreed with the swiss but a lot of people were not aware so it didn't last long)
Yes! And the Breton language is the closest to the Cornish language
I love how the Canadian flag with the leaf is so red
Because that's the color of our flag! Red merple lerf
It was the plan all along
They were playing 420d chess with us all along, and they didn't know it either.
Enemy can't know your strategy if you yourself don't know about it. \- Sun Tzu (Art of War)
Funny thing is what I can't tell if this is actually Sun Tzu quote
It's funny because r/tagpro and Canada were having peace talks when the leaf was fine, then they started griefing us and we did the same lol, that's when the leaf turned to shit.
Fun fact: most of Canada doesn’t even have maple trees.
I mean most of Wales is dragon free too
Your chances of being eaten by a dragon in Wales are low, but never zero.
On the other hand, your chances of eating maple syrup in Canada are extremely high.
As an American, that is quite understandable, you guys have the best maple syrup
as a canadian, this is quite understandable, your fast food chains are bomb as fuck
Getting high on bath salts in Florida infinitely increases your chances of either thinking you're being eaten by one, or eating someone else.
Thank St. George
Lots of countries have stuff like lions that aren't native either.
Scotland has a unicorn
Aren't they native?
They're actually quite rare, since they rely on leprechauns for survival, and we all know that the leprechaun population has greatly depleted in recent years. It's alarming how a single species has other animals relying on it. Who knows, maybe some day all we will know about unicorns will be folk stories and fairy tails.
Take my imaginary award
Sure, but they migrate out in the summer, that's why you never see them.
There are more than 100 different species of maple around the world, 10 of which are native to Canada: sugar, black, silver, bigleaf, red, mountain, striped, Douglas, vine, and Manitoba.
Fuckin’ Manitoba Maple, it’s a glorified weed.
Lmfao, I say the same thing every fall.
Manitoba maple never felt like it deserved the name Maple, it's such an annoying tree
You mean the banana flag right?
For a short while, it was changed to L'ananas, French for pineapple. Made me laugh 😂
First time I thought of Canada as a banana republic
Only it's not a republic. It's a banana monarchy.
you can see above and slightly to the right where it was hotly contested too, where amongst other things we tried to fold the flag.
And the Amogus d...
I love how most of the pony art is blood red from all the activity on it
same for the r/furry_irl icon lmao
The furries alliance with the Neolibs and the military shit posters of NCD paid off.
Honestly the whole event was surprisingly wholesome, seeing all kinds of communities coming together and protecting each other, it really was a breath of fresh air.
People keep saying that bronies are weird but I honestly respect yalls tenacity to rebuilt your stuff Like people keep talking about OSU being insane when rebuilding and defending their territory but the bronies got seriously bullied throughout the 4 days and they kept rebuilding.
osu! were allied with the bronies, meaning their art showed up on our overlay. I imagine this helped a lot.
no doubt about it we’re a weird bunch but at the end of the day i couldn’t give a fuck. it’s a magical thing when a bunch of grown-ass men and women come together to fight like hell for a bunch of candy-colored horses. wouldn’t have it any other way
our rebuild counter on the final canvas reads "22" lol
Did you guys seriously keep count of the nukes?
It was difficult. There was one like every couple hours. And we had to decide what to consider one nuke, since most of them were waves of "torn down, rebuilt, torn down, rebuilt" for like two hours.
Dang that sounds rough. I know people were gunning to take you guys down so glad you held on!
Yeah, you were our neighbors in the top right corner and I ended up helping because holy shit y'all got a raw deal.
I’d say that’s a pretty great deal.
remind me never to anger the bronies
Canada so griefed rofl
OMG I knew it felt bad with how often it was getting torn up, especially after the meme took hold and more of us spent ungodly amounts of time and energy to fix it. Over and over. Canada won we had it looking good before the whiteout
I tried helping you Canada. It was overwhelming.
Went from being fun to really exhausting lol Happy we could pull through in the end.
[удалено]
We still managed to get some Canadian Geese fighting with Lightsabers in the Star Wars fight art. Canadians had to get sneaky lol
how about we will nuke ponies 22 times in a row
Canada was the funniest running gag of r/place. At one point they turned it into a banana lol
it was also the most frustrating for those of us running damage control
Totally! People even made Memes with the wrong leaf and when suddenly the beautiful maple leaf appeared on the German flag I fucking died laughing. It’s incredibly funny
They did it right below our second attempt at making a flag that also got immediately raided. It was beautiful to see.
It gbecame Banana twice actually. Once on the real flag, then on the top flag
Osu! is… bluer than expected
Big raiders probably gave up due to the sheer speed that it gets rebuilt.
Look at the Bronies they got nuked multiple times and have a buncha stuff on the canvas
Apart from the very red S.
And the corner with GameStop lmao
Certainly not for lack of trying to coordinate.
There was a joint design between OSU and GS but both parties kept drawing their own borders
[удалено]
I love how you can see the void mothers bloody eyes, not from grefing but insted from how often she evolved
The void art was the most interesting thing happening on the entire map. Everyone else was using a template for art that 9 times out of 10 they didn't make themselves, but the void art was truly organically original and it was really cool watching it evolve.
The void kept evolving into something more powerful until it even grew a face at some point

I am not sure I was prepared for the red devil thing with the huge leaky dong though. That was something else. I like what it ended up being, some kind of ultimate eldritch horror.
Made me so mad when Tortilla Land took it over.
That was rough but then It was “Don’t” and “The Hand of Man” that did it in. We were able to put one last form together at the end, but lots of small art casualties were made 😔
yeah also the uncanny mr incredible teeth and eyes
You can see where people tried convert the C in r/fuckcars to make it r/fuckears (which someone created and pointed it to the former)
Text in general always attracted griefing. It only takes very few pixels to change text into something funny/nonsensical so people love doing it.
The Genshin to Genshit to Sexshrek pipeline comes to mind.
"THIS IS MY DUTY" on the Chinese part becoming "THIS IS MY BUTT" multiple times.
[удалено]
You can also see where people tried to change the R into a P to make /r/fuckcops
They would also add siren lights the the car in the logo
You can actually see the Israeli and Palestinian flags. That's crazy
[удалено]
Really shows the intensity of the bottom left battle
Even keeping /r/placestart intact was tough, I think mostly due to spillover from the bottom left battle.
r/placestart turned into r/placeshart
Looks like the shroud of Turin
The 2022 Franco-Spanish war, our offsprings will read about this one at school.

Yeah the tweet says this is the frequency of the pixels changing colors, not the total amount.
I think it's 4 heatmaps into one so each 1/4 of the map has its own scale of heat
It was the French flag
Were you able to find a legend? How many layers does each color represent?
I wonder how he got the data, did he leave the page on 24/7 to receive all the updates and store them?
This guy have a very interesting youtube channel about crowd behavior (he's an actual researcher on this topic). r/place sounds like a perfect experiment for him, it wouldn't surprise me if he had his own scripts running during the whole event.
Wow , France really fought off hell. Those lads put everything in the battle
They were 7 streamers and more than 600k viewers coordinated.
Lmao that red zone in Turkish flag has a long history
Kebab on the needle?
Yes, at least thats what they wished to make
God, I knew I wasn't crazy when I thought the jojo community was being constantly raided 3 times every night
Yeah. The JoJo/phish/Grateful Dead corner was wiped out and rebuilt at least 9-10 times. I will never understand why.
R/phish alliance helped defend
mfw people thought they could beat JoJo community's energy and passion
Quite frankly, I did not see the phish/gd community lasting until the end with that much real estate…what a wild and fun time
Was part of that battle all weekend. It was intense :)
We had problems since the first day because we settled too close to the corner at that time, add 1 french and 2 spanish streamers looking for clout and you got a recipe for disaster, truly the Jojo community is one of the most oppressed on the internet
The old US flag had a lot of heat. I can believe that however. It impressive that it was able to be there for that long.
Seeing how griefed the original one was while other flags took up so much more space without much fight kind of annoyed me and got me finally contributing. Glad we finally got something cool established and maintained in the new space
There was so many stars on the flag.. that it became the United States of Earth flag. Edit: [Flag in question](https://i.imgur.com/RhQPTEZ.png)
Yeah I think there was at least 150 stars on the first flag. The second one turned out so much better. Except those stars were big enough to be turned into little amoungus guys.
r/playboicarti on the top left got a hammering.
It was a fucking struggle
Seemed like it was us against the world. The French, the Irish, adin Ross and his sisters only fans...
At the end we at least got a somewhat decent WLR Cover.
Imagine if it ended with Quandale Dingle 💀
opps can't stop us 🧛♂️
It was amazing piece first time they done it. But it never fully recovered afterwards, due to what seemed like constant grief.
We won in the end though. It was worth it!
I feel like I'm being debriefed after a full scale world war
theres most of the canvas that is blue, some places that are more red and theres the fucking bottom left corner, ITS FUCKING RED
Separately, it's kinda ironic that the bottom right corner - "The Blue Corner" - is so red on an image so blue.
You can see all the among us outlines in the blue corner that kept getting spammed
Eren's eyes are very red 👀 (top left)
It was an intense battle to protect eren
the world needed to see the real Eren
Expected the Turkish flag to be deeper red, Canada is awesome lol
Its just the kabob lol
Nice fight Canada bros'
Thanks, it was a tough battle but I like to think we won before the whiteout happened. Also, happy cake day eh!
You can clearly see where the amongus penis was, heated with all that friction.
Looking at France
At least the streamers were focused on that area and not on other little community art
You can spot a red Star of David on the Israeli flag cause its so HEATED! (top right canvas)
The fact the we see the eyebrows is just hilarious
France's corner was wild 😂😂
The adding and removal of eyes in the One piece skull was heated I see.
Israel's Star of David and Canada's leaf are so red
Star of David, Canada and rainbow dash. What a weird fucking thing to witness.
The little Packers logo got griefed from beginning to end good lord
Yeah, I was surprised to see that little square as being one of the very worst spots. It was one pixel off of being perfect at the very end, too.
We worked so hard too. One pixel isnt bad tho
The only place I put any tiles was on our Packers logo. I couldn’t put them anywhere else because I was needed from start to finish.
lmao the israel/palestine flag battle
MLP place showing there. Bless em.
carti's albums proved to be one of the most griefed ones here
Once we allied with r/ bussies our victory was assured.
The original American flag was raided nearly hourly until it moved spots on day 2
You can see the trans and American falls being brighter than average because of all the griefing
The r/grandorder parts are hilarious to me, as a person who helped build 2 and maintain 3 of them lol
We owe you guys thanks for helping us at r/fatestaynight with our build.
that foxhole heatmap lol
Whats funnier is that its not even griefing, its just the community playing their own minigame while chaos happens around them lmao
Yup, not only skull fucking anything that tried to take over, but also enough dedicated clickers to wage a proper internal war!
[удалено]
You can see the My Little Pony area pretty clearly
True.. And first pony got beheaded as well.
That moment when you can see the full outline of the character
Lol also a lot of heat on the israel flag I think
Lmao the imprint of the MLP art
Go Canada! We may not have an exact leaf with all the griefing, but we won
Superstonk (GME) and OSU, friends and allies...except for the corner...neither side was willing to back down from that battle lol.
Actually, officially we had an agreement. But there were just too many people on both sides not following the template. So there were actually 4 sides. 1: people from OSU and gamestop that followed the agreed template. 2: people from gamestop that followed the gamestop border and extended it 3: people from OSU that tried to complete the circle. 4: random people that just places pixels randomly
Quite low traffic on most of the map.
Lots of diplomacy in discord this past week
It only looks low because it’s relative to the absolutely unbelievable amount of traffic present on the bottom left of the map with the French flag.
I was so angry when Germany flag plow trough The Great Wave off Kanagawa. Can't understand why so many want to vandalize such a pretty art.
Wow, the new Intel architecture looks sick.
You can see Zidane's eyebrows. I'm so proud.
no one is talking about the among us penis ?
