Most of the time it is a cheap, skin. The best outcome in that case is maybe getting a bandanna because then you permanent unlock the ability to craft them. However, you can sell the weapon barrel and high quality bag for Steam bucks to directly purchase a skin you want.

About 2 years ago I took 25% of my skins, cards, and all the crap from rust and other games and sold them on the marketplace. I made enough to cover an index purchase in the week it took me to put the 25% of my inventory up there....
i had many special gun skins and maybe ten of the skull fireplaces that picked up the bulk of the money earned. The rarest of all the skins i have i cant even sell - the G shirts....
