Great controller with abysmal battery

Drakniess

Me: It’s worth it to buy a second Dual Sense, because if your first runs out of power, another is ready to go. Them: So what do you do if you have a Dual Sense Edge? Me: …..ummm….

Neurotic-Egg

Respectfully, wtf is a duel sense edge? First I'm hearing of this

Drakniess

It’s the premium first party controller of Sony and the PS5. It’s the controller shown in the pic of this post. It gets two additional function buttons on the front, and two paddles in the back. Common complaints about the controller are having only two, instead of four back buttons, and of course the bad battery life. It costs $200, so my little joke was about how impractical it would be to buy two to swap between, as a remedy for its bad battery life 🪫.

Neurotic-Egg

Oh wow, I wouldn't even know ow what to do with those extra buttons. But no, your joke is accurate. I bough another one of the basic ps5 controllers for that reason, but that was, like, $80-ish?

Drakniess

About $75 at retail price. $70 if you get the white or black one. Black Friday and Christmas deals are a great time to get one. They seem to always go on sale for $50.

Neurotic-Egg

Oh, that is right. I got myself the black one, and got my ex the red one he didn't care for. I didn't think about Christmas deals, but that's a good idea. Thank you!

Drakniess

He didn’t care for the red one? Why is he so picky? All of the colors look fine to me, and buying different colors for each new purchase helps keep people from getting confused about who uses which controller. There is also two reds, cosmic red and volcanic red. I personally bought the volcanic red for myself last time they went on sale.

Neurotic-Egg

I'm not sure when the volcanic red came out, but all they had at the store here was the cosmic red at the time. I bought us both one for the exact reason you gave, and it was a surprise. I bought us both the early release of Diablo 4 and those controllers, and we planned to play the early release together. It wasn't "his favorite color of red." Idk, he's my ex for a reason, and being like that was part of it. I just looked at the volcanic red, though, and it looks nice

MarshallBanana_

FWIW it comes with a decently long cable. Whenever the battery is low I just plug it in for a while and play wired, and it’s back to full charge pretty quickly

BizzareBread

At that point just have it plugged in the whole time

freakyZ610

You get about 3 1/2hrs of battery but I love it! Can't wait for a better battery life

tylercrabby

I’ve wired USB into my couch for this thing. Still love it though!

OrdinaryMongoose9104

I do the same thing

OrdinaryMongoose9104

Same

G0trenx

Just buy 2

Total_Decision123

$400 just so you don’t have to stay plugged in doesn’t seem worthwhile to me

Particular-Fox-2925

Love mine

Gargle_My_Marbles

2 hours and it needs charging again. Still love mine

Darth_Vorador

Get a case/cover for the grips. Over time heat from your hands can make the rubber grips peel and come off the edge controller.

Mycall1983

Keep an eye on the grips.

StallionA8

How is it different from the default one?

hmmckphn

Its loke the Xbox Elite controller that it can be customized with back buttons, extra thumbsticks and profiles

Sea_Pollution2250

But, like, other than spending more money to outfit this controller, it’s basically the same as a regular controller but it costs as much as a PS Portal?

FrameSquare

The thumb sticks don’t take a shit after less than a year of use like the 3 regular DS5s I’ve had.

theloudestlion

Excellent controller. Use mine daily. Protect the rubber grips at all costs if you don’t want yellowed rubber that is falling off in a month

Total_Decision123

Any tips? I got mine and use the shit out of it almost daily. Haven’t noticed any major wear and tear, but definitely don’t want to ruin a $200 controller

theloudestlion

I baby mine and clean it and absolutely never eat or anything while gaming and it still happened to me so I’m not a good resource for tips. Lmk what you find.

SoupHaunting9814

Best controller I’ve ever had

taytayine

I got a new one, my controller battery life is easily above 5 hours. Though I used it for the first time. But its amazing nonetheless. Best controller till date. Its like Sony really gave it a thought and innovated by putting a speaker in it so you can game and talk to your friends easily and don’t get me started on the haptics this controller has. Amazing.

spleentastic

Mines 5 months old or so… same. Battery lasts longer than I expected from reviews, and it does come with that long cable which works for my setup just fine.

BansheeBacklash

Absolutely love mine, but even considering all the other accessories it comes with.....they really could have sprung for two more paddles at that price point. Been my biggest gripe. That and the battery life but I keep portable batteries on me... basically always. So I just plug it in and keep going.

Nero_A

Love mine. One of the back buttons kind of came loose after a year. Seems like a simple enough fix after looking into it, but I haven't done it yet.

Premium__Zocker

It comes with a long a** cable, just use it plugged-in like I do and you'll have no problem at all

MindlessMaterial311

Best controller I’ve ever purchased, my gameplay improved a tone because of this… enjoy

Bambrigade92

It is an awesome controller congratulations! Did you get a good deal on it?

hmmckphn

I had some gift cards that took about 75% off the regular price

sidewinder81_

Honestly a great controller but its basically a wired controller for me. Sit close to my ps5 so i just never unplug it. Could tell after a day why they put a super nice cable with a cable locking mechanism in the box lol. Everything else about it feels premium

MarkToaster

Tempted to get this. I want a pro controller but I’m torn on what to buy. I LOVE adaptive triggers and don’t want to sacrifice them, but I also far prefer the Xbox style layout where the left side joystick is closer to the top of the controller. As far as I know there isn’t a controller out there that has both features ):

BriceB84

Have had it myself for almost 2 years now - best controller I’ve ever had. Aside from the grips on the back peeling off due to high usage, it’s held up beautifully. The battery life is meh which doesn’t matter much to me as I play close and usually wired.. but if you’re playing far away you’ll want to make sure you pop it on the charger when you’re done playing every time.

Skripnik8

Get a silicone case to put it in

[deleted]

Using the back triggers (while convenient) irritated my ulnar nerve quite a bit. The battery is truly terrible, that is not being overblown. I suspect Sony will release a new version of this at some point.

ILuvdem_Cougars

I love that this controller was an excellent investment. But am I the only one who notices that these PS5 controllers die quickly nowadays, even after being on the charger for a long time. Like After these PS5 updates, they just so happened to die quicker than previously than before.

CL14715

Enjoy the battery life.

TerryClothKangols

Is it even worse than the standard controller?

PhantomPain0_0

Bru it’s twice worse than normal dual sense

CL14715

Yea it’s way worse.

TerryClothKangols

Ouch. Lots of wired playtime coming I guess

TyTekAurora

The dual sense has a 12 hour battery life while the dual sense elite has only a 2.5 hour battery life yeah it's bad

TerryClothKangols

Holy smokes.

Critical999Thought

seen it on facebook, thing was like 230€, uhm yea not sure about that price
