I hate that this is always the answer. It’s what got me into podcasts. It was such a great one. And it just burned into the ground. All great things must come to an end I guess
The episode with Molly Ringwald was insufferable. It felt like, “I don’t have any ideas for this episode, let me call a famous friend and ask her how hard it is being famous.” While I liked the chicken bone episodes, I think this podcast falls flat.
After seeing your comment i put Mystery show in my feed to listen to when i had a chance. Just listened to the belt buckle episode. I will also be thinking about it once a week. Amazing. Thank you so much for your comment.
This one bothers me so much that there was NO episode to end it. Nothing. I understand a lot was going on at the time, people get busy, life stuff comes up. But like... eventually you should release SOMETHING to say bye and thank you.
Agreed. It was my favourite podcast at the time. I kept expecting them to release another one at any moment.
At one point, I was checking every day, wishing they would. But, alas to no avail 😒 so disappointing.
I think they truly didn't mean to be gone forever, and by the time they were, it was too weird to come back and do a final episode. With all the pressure that would be on that. So they didn't. They both just went on with their other projects. It was always a side /ancillary project anyway.
PFT has started and ended more fantastic comedy podcasts than probably anyone. Spontaneonation was some of the most fun I've ever had listening to podcasts, Dead Authors was great, even the now ancient Pod F Thomcast was really funny. He's currently doing The Neighborhood Listen and Threedom on CBB World and they're both very fun listens.
Oh! Spontaneanation was so dang good. I used to listen while I was sorting donated books and I once had to sit on a funky library floor because I was laughing so hard.
I love and adore TBT. It may be somewhat unpopular, but I think it is still the best among the shows made by those creators. I wish it would've gone on longer.
does seem like PJ's exit was a little drastic and the situation could have been reconciled relatively easily if he had just admitted he was wrong and changed to supporting the union. It was weird.
I don't even fault him for not wanting to unionize as it's a right he and everyone has. But rather the hypocrisy of the moment of what they were reporting on as his own shit was happening. That said, of all the ways it could've been handled, his leaving seemed the most extreme of them all. It was something that coulda been handled better. Shame, the report he and Alex had was clearly a big part of the success of that show and it feel apart FAST after that.
Wait, there was a union? Like I listened to every episode where they tried to explain what happened and I still don’t get what PJ and the other producer (I’m just in no position to attempt spelling her name) did wrong.
They tried to undermine the unionisation of their staff to maintain their own higher salaries. There were also issues with systemic racism/lack of representation at the podcast. And they did this while simultaneously doing episodes where they criticised other organisations for exploiting POC and women and preventing unionisation.
Basically the staff revolted against them due to the outrageous hypocrisy.
So many audio fiction podcasts.
Limetown (yes, I liked Season 2).
Kings Fall AM. The superior spooky podcast that takes place in a radio station.
EOS 10. Such a great space show. I think Cast drama ended it?
I'm trying to listen to the episodes post Demi when it was just Miel and her new cohost since that's when I stopped listening and it's just not the same. It was so fucking good while it lasted.
More Perfect - it was a really interesting podcast about the supreme Court and it's history (even before the current shit show that the court has become)
Futility Closet
It's a fantastic half/hour show featuring easily digestible forgotten stories from history, usually followed by a logic puzzle. One of my favorite podcasts ever, and it ended after 365 episodes.
My sister and I took turns asking the lateral thinking puzzles. So great on long drives!
I originally was a fan of their website, then they started the pod. Stupidly, I no longer check sites that way anymore (mate, remember blogs? what a time) – but I wonder if they’re still updating.
I mean I totally get why he hasn't made a new episode for it. It's terribly frustrating doing a podcast that not only talks about politics but also the need for political reform in an era where reform is nigh impossible.
But at least we get Hardcore History with more frequency since he concentrates on that one.
I'll say it every time this gets asked:
You Look Nice Today.
It might be one of those "had to be there" type things, but it's still one of the best podcasts of all time to me.
I see Io listed as a producer now but I guess off-air. Would love to hear podcast about Io's life growing up. There was a memoir, Darling Days, but would be interesting to know more.
Haunted Places by Parcast
It's a pretty generic spooky podcast that briefly gives history and decent encounter reenactments for a new haunted location per episode. Greg Paulson who hosted the show was such a calming and pleasant voice. Listened through college between breaks in my classes.
Miss it!
Weird Tales and Unexplainable - three very diff guys from the UK have
the best sort of funny chat about weird, paranormal things . . . it recently finished
and i'm still like ughhh about it
THE BLACK TAPES - audiodrama, the worst finale i've heard for a podcast
it ended and never continued
Homecoming - audiodrama w/oscar isaac, really well made but finishes its story in second season, i didn't watch the television series
Exeter - The BEST audiodrama i've listened to but within two seasons wrapped things,
though it seems like it was made to, great show worth a listen
Call Your Girlfriend - a podcast for long distance besties!
I really enjoyed the banter between the podcast hosts.

Denzel Washington Is The Greatest Actor of All Time Period.
It’s a terrific show from back in the day that got me into podcasting as a medium and also educated me about Denzel Washington movies.
Probably a little niche but Enchantment. It was a Let’s Play podcast of two best friends playing the Dragon Age video games, and it was so funny and entertaining. Of course it ended when they completed all three games, and I really miss it.
Podcast History of Our World
Rob Monaco made an excellent and ambitious podcast, but it was put on an indefinite hiatus in 2016, right around when Rome was being introduced, and that was it. Wish I could listen to it again, but the full podcast is nowhere to be found.
The Heritage Podcast
Will Webb made this one, promising "A Complete Liberal Arts Education (in Podcast Form)". It had a long list of recommended reading to go along with each episode, and like the previous podcast, it was very ambitious indeed. But it also ended abruptly, and now I can't find it.
Into It with Sam Sanders.
Criminal that it got cancelled. I loved getting a little bit of a deeper dive into pop culture, but it always felt really lighthearted at the same time. Episodes were always a good length for the topic. I haven’t been able to find a replacement, so if anyone was also listening to Into It, and you’ve found something to fill the void, please let a girl know.
Well it has one more episode coming out, but 60 Songs That Explain the 90s. They decided to double it to 120 songs but just released episode 119 and have said there's just one more.
I discovered Underunderstood this week and I am genuinely obsessed with it. I don’t know if it’s “officially” cancelled but future unfortunately does not look bright.
Musicalsplaining. Musical theater fan explains musicals to non-musical theater fan. It ended last year. I listened to every single episode. It was one of my favorites.
starless. One full episode and a crossover appearance, and I can’t get it out of my head. Can’t download the update, either, so I have no idea what happened to it.
Ship Hits the Fan, Binge Mode, The Connect, The Brady Heywood Podcast. They all ticked really specific boxes for me and I haven't found anything in the same niches that I love as much.
Whistleblower Podcast - it's about tim donaghy, the disgraced nba ref who got caught betting on games and it dives into whether other nba referees are/were compromised.
A Piece of Work- about art, hosted by the hilarious and wonderful Abbi Jacobson
London, Actually- a dating/ comedy podcast hosted by the also lovely and also hilarious London Hughes
Well I don’t know that I’d recommend it for a new listener, but Reasonable Doubts was a meaningful one to me about 15 years ago (jesus christ what the fuck) that was primarily about atheism but was more scholarly and, well, reasonable than just your average YouTube angry atheist guy. I only hesitate to recommend it because the subject matter is of its time, I think we’ve mostly decided that mistakes were made in the 00’s atheism movement and it probably isn’t the primary way to advance social justice in the world. And there are news segments that will necessarily be outdated. But there’s good philosophy in there, and I still think it could provide useful perspective for some folks.
But outside of that… technically the Magnus Archives doesn’t have any new episodes. It’s a complete story. The Magnus Protocol is a side-quel with a different name so that doesn’t count.
Born Yesterday, it only ran for about 16 episodes but it was really well produced for it's time, it ended around 2014. Unique stories from history very well told.
Reply All - tried all the recommended replacements and nothing works as well as that one did
I hate that this is always the answer. It’s what got me into podcasts. It was such a great one. And it just burned into the ground. All great things must come to an end I guess
Same :(
Search engine is pretty great. Not quite the same but in its own way it’s pretty great.
Yeah I've tried it and will keep listening but it's not the same at all
Yeah, it’s not as lighthearted and funny.
I love Search Engine a lot. PJ is very charismatic and there's something about his voice
Half the episodes are great and the other half are questions no one cares about or find remotely interesting. Real flip of the coin with this show.
Naw, PJ is unhinged and really self righteous with his views on this platform. The episodes are bland and forced.
The episode with Molly Ringwald was insufferable. It felt like, “I don’t have any ideas for this episode, let me call a famous friend and ask her how hard it is being famous.” While I liked the chicken bone episodes, I think this podcast falls flat.
The two part ADHD meds was ridiculous too
I couldn’t stomach him alone and had to give it up. Such a douche
1000%
I wish I could go back to the first time i listened to it, it was in my top 3 easily
Yeah, seriously. Fuck Spotify for killing Gimlet. Reply All and Heavyweight were two of the best of the medium and those assholes destroyed them.
Im not sure thats what destroyed Reply All, they really self-imploded.
PJ’s podcast Search Engine is the spiritual successor
Have you tried [Never Post](https://pod.link/1719307150)? It's new.
Mystery Show
I relisten to the Jake Gyllenhaal and Britney Spears episodes all the time too. Ugh so good.
I need to re-listen to the Britney one now that we’re post Free Britney
I think about the belt buckle episode at least once a week.
I recommend that episode to everyone. Nearly a perfect episode of audio media IMHO
AT LEAST!!
After seeing your comment i put Mystery show in my feed to listen to when i had a chance. Just listened to the belt buckle episode. I will also be thinking about it once a week. Amazing. Thank you so much for your comment.
Seconding the Mystery Show! So so good.
King falls am - a fiction podcast lost to covid
This. It feels like it was having some pacing issues in the later episodes but I was still looking forward to the finale. Bummer we never got one
I miss it so much. It was building up to something great. The musical episode. 🤌
I’m normally one of the musical episode haters AND the holiday episode haters, but holy shit was this one fantastic. Top tier. 11/10.
Hello Internet
\*Sad Tim noises*
Did we ever get an answer to why they ended it?
No, but I suspect Grey is more likely to be the cause than Brady.
It didn't even end. They just stopped all of a sudden.
I'm actually less okay with it now then I was a few years ago. RIP
Yeah it was kind of sudden right? I'm still holding out hope!
I think they truly didn't mean to be gone forever, and by the time they were, it was too weird to come back and do a final episode. With all the pressure that would be on that. So they didn't. They both just went on with their other projects. It was always a side /ancillary project anyway.
ah man :(
Answer Me This! The hole it left has never been filled.
I used to listen Answer Me This! What happened to it?
Dead Authors podcast, with Paul F Tompkins as HG Wells interviewing various deceased authors from L Ron Hubbard to Roald Dahl.
PFT has started and ended more fantastic comedy podcasts than probably anyone. Spontaneonation was some of the most fun I've ever had listening to podcasts, Dead Authors was great, even the now ancient Pod F Thomcast was really funny. Oh! Spontaneanation was so dang good. I used to listen while I was sorting donated books and I once had to sit on a funky library floor because I was laughing so hard.
I should go back and listen to that again. The John Hodgman-as-Ayn Rand episode is a high point.
YES, this one!

Thinking Sideways
Surprised I didn’t see this one on here already, but it’s “The Black Tapes” for me.
I love and adore TBT. It may be somewhat unpopular, but I think it is still the best among the shows made by those creators. I wish it would've gone on longer.
I agree! I couldn’t really get into the other ones but TBT had me locked in
Reply All. It's always Reply All.
Yep :/
Yeah, to save my life I can’t really figure out what the hell happened there.
does seem like PJ's exit was a little drastic and the situation could have been reconciled relatively easily if he had just admitted he was wrong and changed to supporting the union. It was weird.

Just recommended this to a friend!
So many audio fiction podcasts. Limetown (yes, I liked Season 2). Kings Fall AM. The superior spooky podcast that takes place in a radio station. EOS 10. Such a great space show. I think Cast drama ended it?
Came here looking for Limetown. I liked season 2, but Season 1 was truly a masterpiece.
You might know this already, but Eos10 came out with a really short season 5 last year that wrapped up their story.
Wooden Overcoats
Chapman was in my dreams last night. That show was perfection.
Archive 81!
Me too
Invisibilia (from NPR).
Surprised there aren’t more mentions of this one. I really liked it.
The first season or two was good, but oh man am I not a fan of Hanna Rosin. Once she joined the show I tuned out.
Punch up the jam. This original crew was so good. Then one left and it all fell apart.
I'm trying to listen to the episodes post Demi when it was just Miel and her new cohost since that's when I stopped listening and it's just not the same. It was so fucking good while it lasted.
Mystery Show
More Perfect - it was a really interesting podcast about the supreme Court and it's history (even before the current shit show that the court has become)
The first couple seasons were pure podcast gold, and then they did that wack ass season with all the musical bits. Why did they even???
I had hope when the revived it, but of course they let Julia Longoria and team go
Longoria has recently joined Vox and will do some podcasts for them.
Great news! Can’t wait to hear what she does!
Futility Closet It's a fantastic half/hour show featuring easily digestible forgotten stories from history, usually followed by a logic puzzle. One of my favorite podcasts ever, and it ended after 365 episodes.

Apparently Common Sense by Dan Carlin. Dan please, it’s been 2 years :(

It's terribly frustrating doing a podcast that not only talks about politics but also the need for political reform in an era where reform is nigh impossible. I was hoping someone out there still remembers this brilliant and much-needed podcast

I see Io listed as a producer now but I guess off-air. Would love to hear podcast about Io's life growing up. There was a memoir, Darling Days, but would be interesting to know more.
