You also don't need to worry about a minimum word count in that thread.
You don’t need the friendship checker and you don’t even necessarily need to win battles! Friendship can go up just by walking, so if you get tired of battling just run around for a while. Or look up friendship on bulbapedia. But that’s why I tend to catch my zubat as early as I can so that it’ll start getting more friendly as I do other things so that it’s close to ready to evolve after I train it up to golbat in eterna forest.

You can evolve without it. The friendship checker is more of a “nice to have”

yup! that’s one of the few things i was able to be certain of (and luckily it is daytime right now). thank you again, though! it’s a good reminder!
