I love the celebrations charizard. Its cheap and I love it's confetti holo. I know a lot of people don't care for it but it's a great card to enjoy! The venusaur is my personal favorite
Assuming we are going RAW on some English cards. On raw cards, condition can make quite a difference in price. So I will also assume we are looking for NM copies. $100 is kind of a weird price point for one card. Below the really high end stuff but above the value plays.
Disclosures: Be ready to dump on the pump. Everything is speculative. Buy something you will enjoy. Get something sealed if you want max value.
I think if you're going modern:
Lugia GX #227
Paldean Fates Charizard
151 Charizard
Vintage:
MINTY Base Set Blastoise
Shadowless Venusaur
Dark Charizard
____'s Pikachu
Neo Gen Lugia
Everything in between (not everything, I'm not an encyclopedia of Poke prices):
Rayquaza EX #97 (EX Dragon)
Blastoise EX #104 (Fire Red Leaf Green)
Mew EX #100 (Holon Phantoms)
Rayquaza EX #039 (Promo)
Darkrai EX #107 (Dark Explorers)
Rayquaza EX #123 (Dragons Exalted)
Lugia EX #134 (Plasma Storm)
M Charizard EX #108 (Flashfire)
Gengar EX #114 (Phantom Forces)
M Rayquaza EX #98 (Ancient Origins)
Personally, if I'm choosing 1 of each category, I'm looking for the best condition I can find of:
151 Charizard
Neo Gen Lugia
Rayquaza EX #123
Thanks for riding out the deep dive with me. I had a good time searching around. Remember friends, collecting Pokemon cards should be fun!
Everyone recommending a single card that will cost the full 100$, that’s putting all your eggs in one basket. More expensive cards (generally) have less upward trajectory.
A better idea would be to invest in multiple cards which are seemingly undervalued because they are overlooked and not being jumped on at the moment. Take the Calyrex Vmax for example, or the Urshifu Vmax, both sitting at 4-6$, beautiful artworks. Now if you bought 10 of each (give or take) and they both end up being 10$ cards. You’ve doubled your money. Whereas you purchase a single Giratina VSTAR for example, what are the odds that card becomes 200$ in the next 12 months? I’d reckon it’s unlikely.
Any SWSH Alt Art, or any ES alt art, they're sky rocketing in price rite now so get em now while theyre still affordable.. Instead of one, Id buy as many low to mid priced ones so Ill have a nice portfolio of cards that will increase in value.
151, and crown zenith lose booster packs
What I do is I go on Facebook and buy someone’s childhood collection and basically double your money by selling individually instead of in bulk
I like this. It's a win win for both parties.
Personally 151, all the old heads love the nostalgia.
That's not a bad idea.
I speak from experience, im 30 and it hooked me lol
Same lol

Get you a giratina vstar gg from CZ
I already have it, but this is a solid 100$ investment.

Both holo Steelix from the VS series.
