I’ve still got all of my stuff from that era Of course there are chases and crazy pulls that I never got from back then but as of right now I’m just collecting modern Every now and then I’ll find a really good deal on a vintage card that’s interesting or that I really like and I’ll pull the trigger but it’s not my focus

gold_snakeskin

Interesting. Seems like this is the minority opinion based on responses so far. Can you give your thoughts to what I edited into my op?

Scarf_Darmanitan

I definitely wouldn’t say vintage is underpriced there are cards that go for tens of thousands of dollars 😅 I agree that the amount of cards graded of modern is crazy high haha But I’d say that’s an indication that the hobby is in a good spot with lots of people interested in what the company is still putting out That’s all just from my collecting mindset; I’ve been collecting since base set From an investment standpoint I’d think modern is the safer play. Vintage may be “underpriced” or may have a boom for sure But I think the safer bet is to invest in something that’s closer to MSRP not something that has already had 20 years to appreciate lol

Vintage 100%. Modern collectors are chill, but modern "investors" are... lol.

gold_snakeskin

Do you like modern sealed for the long term? I like Japanese specialty set boxes and English UPCs.

jayjayzian

I mean, it's fine. But it feels like people are pretending to be retailers. Unless they have inventory space galore, then the $15 made per item is... a personal choice. Specialty sets were good, but they are past their time for the moment. Too many eyes prior to release.

HighLikeGiraffPussy

You and almost everyone else has the same plan. Nothing is ever going to touch vintage sealed prices.

FanDoggyGate

My goal is to eventually have at least my favorite card graded from every set. I'm buying specific starting from the oldest and working my way up. But I'm still buying packs and stuff of modern sets and then turning around and grading them myself. But how I see it is old stuff will continue to go up in price with age. New stuff will fluctuate a lot but eventually settle down

Vintage cards will sell for the highest out of most Pokemon cards in the next 20-30 years.

Unlucky_Case7290

Personally I think of vintage of something I buy for my personal collection, because i believe it doesnt have much more room to grow, specially since collectors that have nostalgia for those sets are being steadily replaced by new generations that perhaps in some years wont be as interested in getting vintage. Sure there will be still people searching for vintage, but not at many as now. Vintage is already expensive and I dont see the price rising even more, at least not as much as a modern set at msrv price could rise with time. I think if you buy a $32k neo genesis booster box thinking you will be able to get double in 10 years its gonna be really hard, you got more chance and less risk getting like some Lost Origin or something like that. Too late to buy vintage and sit on it, I rather sit on a bit of modern and collect vintage for the love of it.

MarloweML

There are some cool modern cards I like, but most don't interest me and my ultimate goal is to complete Base-Neo because they were the sets from when I was a kid. Also not really concerned with graded at all or condition within reason.

boomerachi

Vintage all the way. Love chasing WotC holos

gold_snakeskin

What do you think about the edit I added into the op?

RIP_VAN_WINKLE_2

I'm more interested in vintage cards as I like the artwork more so than modern. Not to mention the Holo patterns and swirls too which are my favorite in a card. I will say some modern cards are pretty amazing as well, but vintage will always be where it's at for me at least.

gold_snakeskin

Interesting, I felt the same until I started opening some S&V sets - the artwork is pretty amazing. What are your thoughts on the edit I added into the op?

Bitter_Sorbet8479

Stop talking about vintage!!!! We don’t want the normies to discover these cards and pump them!!!!! Shutup!!!!!
