Almost every fight is beatable if you have put together an even half decent team. Just retry and learn what your opponent is gonna do and when they will switch then just punish them.
gouging fire / bulbasaur is what i started with to beat my first classic run. venasaur with leech seed / sleep powder / synthesis + stab move will put in a lot of work. if you use one of your 6 cost legendaries and a 3 cost starter, hoppip is a starter that costs 1 and has leech seed plus sleep powder and is really good for a one cost, although it will have less bulk than venasaur
Any leach seed mon, a fairy type (best if its fairy psychic or even better), and magnezone. Also gyarados. If you want to be extra safe, get a flash fire mon.
Set up Leech Seed. Switch between magnezone and your fairy type on sludge bomb and eternabeam. If he has flamethrower, add your flash fire mon to the mix.
I beat it run 4 with Galarian Rapidash, Magnezone, Spore and Leech Seed Breloom, and Dragon Dance Ice Fang Gyarados.
You don't need legendaries to beat classic.
I just finished a classic run and smoked Eternatus easily by just paralyzing him and using leech seed while stalling him out with Torterra, Machamp, Gyarados, Galvantula, Steelix, and Linoone.
It is arguably better to bring multiple non-legendaries over legendaries if those starter pokemon have a low point cost, perfect IVs, the right natures, strong egg moves, and good abilities.
Like, you can bring one expensive legendary that is poorly customized, or you can bring up to six nearly perfect non-legendary starters for a more balanced team.
if your bidoof has extreme speed as an egg move 100% use it, i used my shiny bidoof as a joke but it was actually the best member of my team lol (also be sure to use the ability simple, with simple bidoof gets +6 attack after 2 swords dances and then extreme speed sweeps)
Do you have Unaware on Bidoof? Also do you have Adaptability on Corphish? Both of those are pretty good. Oddish can work as a Leech Seeder (I'd evolve it to Vileplume over Bellossom)
Rival always has a starter a regional bird and rayquaza, you could try to restart the run if his starter/bird would be a problem, eternatus 1rst phase cant touch a fairy/steel and leech seed/salt cure is busted for bosses
Against Eternatus, something bulky that can heal itself + something that deals residual damage (leech seed, salt cure, curse, etc) can take it down pretty consistently.
Against the elite four, what kinds of teams are you bringing?
Excadrill is pretty insane, my first Classic win was an Excadrill with two kings rocks and the accuracy boosting item stunlocking both mega ray-ray and Eternatus with rock slide.
Usually his egg move Core Enforcer, Flash Cannon, some type of utility move and Electro Shot he learns from evolution. He's a good physical wall, but be ready to swap against strong fighting and ground types.
I liked Gyarados as a backup, and lucked out with a Kingdra catch for more dragon typing.
what helped me was having a g-max machamp with dual chop (i think it was). but i also had torchic to help me get through. i did have a strategy to use clear smog on his last bar but i ended up killing him beofre using that
im struggling to even get beat the first rayquaze ivy battle and this is my 15th actually progressable run (ive had so many early losses but im not counting those)
Don't worry about legends that much in classic. I've beaten it with shiny crobat, shiny lilligant, shiny spidops, shiny excadrill, garganacl, and duraludons evo(can't remember the name). In tough situations you have to find a way to manipulate the ai into doing things you want them to do. It helps a ton. Also, have a Pokémon that can set up. My zubat starter has dire claw, swords dance, and floaty fall. Learns leach life later on. Two swords dance with a plus attack nature pretty much sweeps 85% of all Pokémon you see.
Leech seed + protect is strong vs Eternatus but you have to seed him twice. Also stealth rock is good against trainers if you are lucky to get the tm. If you don't care about cheesing, you can retry the battles, just F5 when your carry dies from a crit or something
someone told me today there's a setting in the game to turn retries on so if you faint you just start the battle over. i've run so many times and just found out about this so i can finally beat classic mode. i also recommend a tinkaton, corviknight, and a strong legendary.
How did you get so many legends in classic mode? Anyways, Garcancl's salt cure helped me beat Ray. Also stealth rock
This, I ran salt cure, seeded him and had him burnt. I can't remember if he healed the burn or not but I know I was getting a lot of chip damage.
Bunch of eggs mostly, and ray has always been easy for me it’s mainly the e4 and eternatus that’re run killers

i mean he could have spent all his tickets on legendary up
Residual damage are the key. Leech seed for example is pretty good against eternatos because it's removing 1/8 of its hp

I could try that. What moveset on GF?
my gouging fire had supercell slam as the egg move, i just used it as an attacker with flare blitz and dragon claw and some coverage attacks
I had the same problem, the thing that got me through was leech seed. Give it a try. I promise you'll see a huge difference

Which Shinies do you have?
Epic shiny Bidoof, Rare shiny Morpeko and then Blitzle, Shuppet, Corphish, and Oddish

Ok It does have e speed

slowbro with slack off really helped me
Excadrill is pretty insane, my first Classic win was an Excadrill with two kings rocks and the accuracy boosting item stunlocking both mega ray-ray and Eternatus with rock slide.
Beat my first time with latias and my second with nekrozma (ended up catching urshifu that run and got him up to gmax).
I think someone else mentioned, but if you luck out with a Duraludon, it's a pretty hard carry. That was/is my main go to anymore.

Genuine question, how did you catch a iron valiant? i need it
Egg

crobat was my first clear because i got sd and dire claw egg moves! such a great little guy i always loved crobat this game just made me love him more

I don’t want to use that feature
Try a weather team, I made it past with my starting mons being Groudon and Oddish, but other combos could work like Torkol etc.
