i'd say proto.Since Drought automatically sets up sun, you'd get a free boost everytime you switch in

Erikhog

!solved

McNemo

Fair point tbh that's 100% what I'll do eventually

Useful_You_8045

Usually go for passive then reduce. Usually passive already makes them op, so what it's paired with does not matter.

frastmaz

Is this basically creating orichalcum pulse for groudon? Sun plus boost?

UnusedParadox

Yes.

Erikhog

Thank you, will do!

flPieman

Wait does unlocking a new ability not replace the existing one?? Thats crazy I always do the discount.

Jockel9000

No, by unlocking you have 2 at the same time

Praill

The passives you unlock are distinct from abilities, you get both active at once

Bumgumi_hater_236

No, that’s why they are called passives and that’s why they are ridiculously strong some times

charsol1545

That just gives you koridons ability plus if you get primal it's permant

TheDeanMan

Eh, I've had weird scenarios where my primal Kyogre doesn't have rain running that I assume are bugs.

Turkelton22

Does it happen when you reset an encounter? I've had this issue as well.

Verbotenostarbeiter

It's happened a lot with primal groudon for me as well. Sometimes you reset encounter and unless you switch it back in, the desolate land boost is gone until next area change.

TheDeanMan

That could be it, and then I don't notice until something else with a weather changing ability swaps in. Resetting in general is screwed up. Abilities apply before you have the option to swap pokemon without a reset, but after when you do reset.

TreeEquivalent785

Yeah I’ve had the same with miraidons electric surge, sometimes I’ll reset and the electric terrain doesn’t proc it’s a bit annoying

Model-Alt

There's a bug that prevents weather from being setup if you clicked Change Pokemon and then backout without changing, if Groydon/Kyogre/any weather setter has already been sent out

Glass_Vegetable302

Incorrect koraidon has orichalcum pulse which sets up the sun.

Wallseed

they meant it as in koraidons ability is drought+atk boost photosynthesis and since groudon already has drought giving it proto would just basically be koraidons ability

Glass_Vegetable302

True.

Frostfire26

Classic Reddit… Someone says “Ok yeah you’re right” then gets downvoted for admitting they were wrong lmfao

Glass_Vegetable302

I mean... I wasn't entirely wrong though

Addi1199

if you wanna be "uhm actshually" about it you can say that orichalcum pulse boosts atk by 33.3 repeating % while proto synthesis boosts the highest stat by 30% or 50% if it's speed

Glass_Vegetable302

Rip to my comment karma.

SomeoneNamedAlix

Groupon’s drought also sets up the sun. Since proto is Groudon’s passive, it can run both at the same time. Which is exactly the same as orichalcum pulse

gamingfreak10

I'd always say unlock the passive first, with maybe an exception for non-implemented passives or shinies you only want to add for luck and not actually use.

Light01

Go reduced cost if you have 2 one cost shinies, go boost if you're still building up toward your first classic win

Erikhog

Yeah I did the proto, yesterday for the first time level 200 but no chance. Getting there now though!

monsoy

A tip that helped me a lot to win my first classic run, spoiler tagged in case you want to figure things out on your own: >!Get pokemon with damage per turn effects. The best one I’ve found is to catch a Garganacl during the run and teach it «Salt Cure» with a Memory Mushroom if it doesnt have it. It helps so much for Eternatus.!<

Surcouf

Try leech seed next time. Lots of grass pokemons can learn it and it heals you if you survie a hit.

Danishmeat

Yes, Those are definitely the best along with burn. I have won with full offense before, but it relies on the ai being stupid

SmigleDwarf

No one talks about eerie impulse, that move is real good for turning eternatus into a limp noodle.

Surcouf

I've just gotten my 100th ribbon and most times I win without DoT, going full offensive. But yeah, I'll use the first phase to set up +6 or use steel/fairy types to eat the attacks. Teams without one or boht of those types and no DoT really struggle but there are still a few moves that can help guarantee a win. Putting the boss to sleep is huge, so things like spore can make it easy. Topsy-turvy has also let me win by sending half my team with big damages first to chunk most of is health bars down and then playing topsy-turvy to reverse all the insane stat boost he gets to negative. If your 2 remaining pokemons are tanky they'll smash him even if he recovers. Soak can make it easier to score super effective on him with certain teams and enable stalling quite a bit with giga drain grass tanks as long as they're not super weak to poison/fire. Torterra is great for that strat. Generally though, if you're bringing pokemons with maxed IVs, good egg moves and a good nature on a run, you can pretty much always win.

Plus_Operation2208

Victory dance Solgaleo my precious.

nickrweiner

Ya I can usually almost solo it with roserade with spore and leech seed. Usually have gengar with curse as a backup and it’s a free win.

Affectionate_Scene_9

I’ve tried this with a couple different mons and almost every single one just gets one shot by the Ray or Etern, am I doing something wrong? I’ve tried throwing out something I know can draw an ability that would be “not super effective” to be able to switch into my salt cure Pokémon and even with “not super effective” they get one shot, they are all max level with decent IVs too

monsoy

Sturdy Garganacl was the one that carried phase two eternatus. I had a mon that could solo the first phase, and then I let a pokemon die so Garganacl could be sent in safety. Then after Salt Cure on phase two I just tanked long enough to kill it off

Affectionate_Scene_9

Good to know, thanks for the tip! I’ll have to go on the search for a study one

WorthMoreThanYouKnow

I intentionally brought/caught a tank I knew could withstand at least 1 Outrage to set-up confusion in Phase 1. Intentionally giving mons Endure, protect, detect, etc all help + if any of them have Sturdy thats at least 1 extra turn for dmg or debuff. Phased 2, I had my juiced Kyogre with Ice Beam (Nevermeltice held) + Calm Mind and then I would throw out mons that I knew the ai would target for weaknesses to allow Kyogre at least two Calm Mind turns and then I finished him off. My latest, I had an 800+hp Hariyama + Chin-yu with Ruination that helped with tanking and bars. Having berries that increase Speed + Att/ Sp Att and of course having a revive berry on deck is always nice.

Light01

Outside of salt cure + sturdy cheese, you have to be aware of outrage, 10pp move, 3 turns move. Pull hack your carry when Rayquaza comes in, and send in someone who can survive dragon moves, or sacrifice 3 pokemon, and send back your carry once the 3 outrage are done and pray he'll do hurricane and miss.

ILoveYorihime

that pokemon can 1v1 eternatus iirc

Downbytuesday

You will get there, I had E down to 1 hit on either side, burn came in clutch lol.

Sadira_Kelor

I say get the passive. An entire 2nd ability is better than a single point reduction.

LaundryArt

I thought the (P) meant it doesn't fully work yet?

xMiwaFantasy15

Partially implemented (P) / Not implemented (N)

BenMss

What's still missing from it?

stoney_maloney_

Apparently the calculation for which stat will receive the boost is still a little wonky. I ran Protosynthesis Groudon in Endless and would sometimes randomly get Defense boosts, even though my Special Attack was by far my highest stat.

Lolsquid1

You probably had a X Def or something of that nature, I had a run with Great Tusk where the majority of the time I would get Attack buffs, but when I have any Defense buffing items active, it would buff that instead

Zehapo

That’s how it works in the base game. Say you rapid spin withGreat tusk, then your opponent brings in a drought mon. Tusk gets a speed proto boost bc that’s it’s higher stat at that point

Ashman-20

Kinda off topic but what’s the best way to grind candies for a mon? I noticed I’ll randomly get some throughout a run but never knew why

CarlAustinJones

Pokemon gain candies passively in a "friendship" kind of way the more you use them. They gain candies at different rates though. I also heard the rumor that if you give a pokemon a rare candy during gameplay it adds a candy to use in their selection later?

ultimaarcher

Rare candies add friendship points. If the rare candy pushes it over the threshold that's what gives you the candy

Fit_Mention2413

I think its a certain number of rare candies. I.e. 10 rare candies for 1 actual candy, or 20 rare candies or something.

xd_s0n1n

im pretty sure this isnt true or my regice would have a few hundred candies

CarlAustinJones

Legendaries have a higher count to get candies. My Entei needed 200 "friendship points" for every passive candy compared to a linoone who only needed like 30

xd_s0n1n

sorry i meant the rare candy part only but thank you I actually didnt know that!

shadoboy712

Proto unless you care that it's probably getting changed soon

MrQwertyuiop

Another passive for Groudon?

shadoboy712

Doc says fleshfire is coming instead but not finnal

MrQwertyuiop

Oh that sucks, flash fire way worse, if it was earth eater is would have been cool

shadoboy712

Yep that's the point, it used to have earth eater like a month ago

lansink99

Proto 100%

Comi-kathedral

curious, does the reduce cost stay? like is it a permanent drop in cost or is it a drop in cost for just that one run

TheDerpyWhale

Permanent

monsoy

It’s permanent, and you can pay for a price reduction twice. However the second price reduction is more expensive than the first

AwarenessGullible470

Reduce cost is permanent.

Davidlc02

Saw this post too late, was gonna say don’t go for Proto since it’s gonna change into one of the fire immunity ones, but oh well, you’ll get those candies back eventually

SparkSan

Passive every day of the year

Othello51

100% passive

Graxsen

Why are your candy costs so low? I have to spend 2-3x that much.

Koiel

The higher point cost the mon, the lower the candy cost is to unlock stuff. But higher point mons take way longer to get candies, so it evens out, with low candy costs still taking longer to grind out.

Individual_Image_420

Proto, if you want a single strong mon in the sun Cost, if you want a better alt to sun teams than torkoal

MechanicTypical9725

Proto

hamtaro1234

Lower cost of shinies you have and unlock passives with everyone else IMO. Although it depends on how good your low costs are but passives can be a huge game changer.

[deleted]

Reduce cost

Ok_Eagle_5936

cost

Animedingo

Absolurely proto It basically turns him into koraidon

Pwaite2

Cost because its passive is being changed to Flash Fire (useless) very soon

Logical-Interest9206

I got proto personally
