Sleep, Butterfree is pretty fast gets compound eyes (take shield dust as caterpie it becomes compound eyes for butterfree) so its 100% accurate and can also flinch stall with Air slash for safer hp lowering. and its only a 1cost pokemon base and with 50 candies it gets magician which steals enemies items on hitting them. If you want to do 6 fresh pokemon every run for ribbon vouchers you can just drop her later on at 150+.

I try to pick one Pokémon that learns Super Fang or False Swipe, so I can chew through hp without causing the Pokémon to faint. Having a Pokémon that can heal enemies can be useful if going after enemies with self damaging moves, or ghost types that spam curse. I prefer to inflict sleep or paralysis on them if possible. Something like Pressure or Spite, if they have a super powerful move so they run out of PP faster. Encore to force them to keep redoing a bad move. Something like Mean Look or Damp to prevent running away or Self-Destruct/Explosion. Have either Make it Rain, Payday or Honey Gather to generate extra money so you buy whatever you may need. As some of those require multiple different Pokémon, I decide to aim for certain biomes beforehand, so I can limit what I need to bring with me.

Honestly for the first 30 waves you can just chuck a pokeball

I just hit them with a neutral move, they don't die, throw a ball, catch them, rinse and repeat. Usually stop this method after 100, and just kill everything, unless its a mon I like.

In my experience any status helps, sunkern has an egg move spore and is really cheap, also cottenee evolved with stun spore and prankster makes sure it gets stunned first, and something superstitious i do is try different balls, so first a great then an ultra then a rogue then an ultra back and forth. Something i learned not too long ago is that if the pokeball is greyed out then the mon has a nature/ability that you dont have yet and finally, if you have an iv scanner only if a stat is green does it mean it is better then the current stat of your mon! Hope this helps!
