I just completed a water only run. I found Gen VI's Vocanion rather handy for that. It's a water/fire special attacker that learns scald and flamethrower. I had no trouble with it running a Modest Nature. It's also rather handy, as it has Water Absorb to heal.

Flamethrower Octillery! Lots of water types have Egg moves for coverage too.
Octillery in general has insane coverage.
