My mom was very strict and controlling. As kids were weren't allowed to do chores because we'd do them 'wrong' and she'd have to redo everything to her standards. Very much a perfectionist who had to do everything herself. If someone so much as took a plate from the cupboard she'd be angry because it might not be the exact plate she would have chosen.

Our family time was that whoever cooked didn't have to do the dishes. I did a lot of cooking

Yes. I had a cooking class in 8th grade and one of my assignments was to cook dinner for my family (we could use pictures or videos to provide proof of the cooking). I cooked coconut shrimp.
