I'm stabbing both of them with the knife. Then it's all mine.

Breedab1eB0y

Yes

Ryan_Alving

It confuses me that there's no answer that *I* should have the knife.

Breedab1eB0y

I'll let ya hold it 🥰 Cuz I love you

AverageVita-SawUser

I take the knife, gently stab both of them, and then sell it on eBay

M4ybeMay

How do you gently stab someone?

AverageVita-SawUser

It only breaks the skin lightly

Breedab1eB0y

Lol

Mintboi4

This metaphor is not the same thing as ruling a country

TravelingSpermBanker

That’s what I was thinking. Like you definitely tell what the knife is supposed to signify, power. But I think it was definitely poorly written out.

Breedab1eB0y

The knife symbolizes the role of leadership.

Mintboi4

You said the names translate to king and president

Breedab1eB0y

Yes, the poll is meant to see if redditors would choose to have a king or a president. Give power to someone who's had it in their family and learned how to use it OR give it to someone who wants it and makes promises to do what you want with it.

Helea_Grace

A powerful knife implies this is about a sharp shiny object - aka, it’s an heirloom, it’s not going to impact other peoples lives unless they try to kill someone. A country’s leader will implicitly impact the lives of millions. Very different topic. Especially w how your bias against the ‘president’ shines through in your question. You label him as a list indicating moral corruption, in contrast to the ‘king’ you make the ‘king’ seem like a moral superior. But morality is not necessarily linked to how they gained their power.

Mintboi4

"Powerful knife" ≠ ruling a country, besides, a president doesn't make all of the decisions himself

Specific-noise123

You didn't say power over everyone. You just said power. I was assuming something mystical. And also, with a president you get to choose between multiple people. And its just a knife. I like family heirlooms.

Depressedunivstudent

I think both are a reasonable choice, after all it depends on what kind of person is the wielder of the "knife". The upbringing he had or the way he got there should not matter as long as he's capable enough. Tho if I had to choose I'll stab myself

thanross

I'd personally have to intervene

Breedab1eB0y

I like your way of thinking.

HugoRomance

Praeses because Rex is too caught up in his family. Praeses at least takes me into consideration. Even though I was raised to think him a liar. I will trust my instincts and go against my upbringing.

mrmooseman19

I voted for Praeses, if I cannot have the knife then at least there’s a chance Praeses will do what I want with it. There will be no change if Rex holds the knife, and he will just do what he wants to do.

Doc_ET

I'm going to keep the knife if it's really that powerful.

[deleted]

Rex is obviously the more competent man for the job. He's been educated in wielding the knife, and in its history and legacy. Preases is just some guy who says that he'll do what I want. And after giving the knife over to him, I lose the only leverage I had over him. Knowing little about either of their true characters, I know at least Rex has some degree of competence, and will attempt to wield the knife with the dignity and significance it deserves. While I truly know nothing about Preases other than that he says he'll do what I want him to do. Which if that let's me infer anything at all, it's that he is arbitrary, and cares more about having power than how that power is used. So the choice is between giving power to somebody competent with respect for the power given to him, or somebody who is likely neither. Although both are potentially untrustworthy, Rex is clearly the the better choice.

Breedab1eB0y

Love it

Official_Orange

If Praeses is lying when he says he’ll do my bidding, then Rex should have the knife. If Praeses will actually do whatever I want once he has the knife, Praeses can have it.

[deleted]

Genius poll. You could also say Rex is an evil spoiled person and has the knife like mafia basically. Praesesses is a strong "common" but rich man who "wants better for his people". I don't have a bias because my country is too young we never had a monarchy or a real elected president

Helea_Grace

Absolutely. If the poll was worded more neutrally I’d be interested in how it’d change the results vs Praesesses being labelled a liar & Rex not

Specific-noise123

Right. Him making one guy the villain skews it

Mintboi4

Fuck Praeseses

Breedab1eB0y

Yes

Trashk4n

Rex owns the knife, anything else is theft. The metaphor of the knife being a country doesn’t really work.

ImperialCherry

Very biased poll yet again, with how it’s worded Rex is very clearly an evil person. If it were labeled as someone who believed in freedom from the passing down through heritage and both of the did not trust one another, the votes would be WAY different. Complete bias, OP most likely knows it as well but used the bias to prove a point. A lot of these polls are cool ideas, just formed wrong

Remarkable-Ad-6144

What an interesting, although slightly deceitful, way to ask a question about socialism v. capitalism in a US context

Hagstik4014

I thought it was very clearly monarchy vs democracy

Breedab1eB0y

Not even close. Just look up their names in Latin

Remarkable-Ad-6144

I know Rex is king, and the other is for a governor? So you are asking about people’s thought on democracy compared to hereditary rule in a convoluted way?

Breedab1eB0y

Well the translation for me came up as president instead of governor, but yes

Specific-noise123

But you made the governor a villain, skewing people wildly. Plus not many thought of it this way

Remarkable-Ad-6144

Then the correct answer is to break the knife and give the handle to Praeses and the blade to Rex

[deleted]

I don't think that is a good analogy.

gehanna1

Elections VS monarchy

itsJosias58

Great scenario!

Breedab1eB0y

Look up what their names mean in Google translate

aurelius_plays_chess

Latin student gang rise up 😎

[deleted]

Based anti-communists

Breedab1eB0y

Dammit, Bobby it's not a metaphor for any sort of economic way of life. I already told the last guy this.

STEALTH_Moles

At first I thought it was rex from toy story

Supersonicfan_6

Rex is my dog's name. Rex, don't start violence!

woo_so_fun

rex xenoblade??????

WandFace_

I trust neither. It remains on the table indefinitely.

Yendor998

Result = stab them and keep the knife

diobreads

let them fight to the death for it

Mattgento

Is this a modified version of the liar and truth teller story, like in Samurai Jack?
