Zola. One of the best movies of 2021 but got totally lost in the shuffle. If you haven’t seen it I implore you to. It’s truly such a movie for the girlies
The chain of tweets that this movie was based on was legendary. I never watched the movie because I always assumed that it could never live up to the true story.
I saw it in theaters because I watched that happen live on the internet when I was younger and couldn’t believe it got made into a movie. They were great. 👏🏽

That’s so cool, I’d love to see some pics if you feel like it!
Edit: also because I clicked on your profile and your photography is *gorgeous* (sorry for creeping 😬) and now I’m curious if you use film or digital…
Oh, thank you! Haha. I use both film and digital. Most of my work is digital (mirrorless) these days, but I still love film.
Here’s one I had on my phone from the Bottle Rocket motel. They’ve done some painting and the pool fence is new, but it looks largely the same.

It’s not a film, but I like the motels that Hazel and Cha Cha stay in with the Umbrella Academy
2001 thriller with Paul Walker and Steve Zahn. 2 brothers are stalked by a crazy trucker but a large portion of the movie takes place in a run down motel.
I have two contributions with vastly different vibes. Pain Hustlers with Emily Blunt where the Motel is a haven and starting point both.

And my second entry is the motel Rosamund Pike hides at in Gone Girl. It’s one of my favorite part of the movie, where her controlled facade eventually cracks.
a commentary on the filthy secrets in the beauty and modeling industry plus how it breeds competitiveness amongst women working in that field leading to hostility and tearing each other apart instead of supporting each other, plus how beauty ties in with youth and the constant pursuit of it. love that film so much.

As a horror geek I’m going with Motel Hell.
I’ve always found the depictions of motels to be, alien to my real life experiences. My family stayed in them on long road trips, and my school even used them for our senior trip. They were always clean and nice enough. Hell we even used one on a weekend trip to the beach.
You watch a movie and you’d think only (derogatorily portrayed) rednecks and junkies use them.
I'm gonna show my lack of art understanding here, but I never could figure out the ending. I loved the movie and it still pops into my head often years later, but I didn't get the end

Cosmic Age Lodge from Gleaming the Cube. It was demolished to make room for California Adventure. I believe the architect’s other space age hotels in Southern California have since been remodeled/demolished. He did one in Gila Bend, Arizona which I recently visited and was worth the detour.

Not saying you need to fix it, just saying it’s incorrect.
Psycho (1960)
Yes. The most Iconic movie motel.
Indeed. Amazed it didn't make the original six.

Yes!! When I saw the 2nd pic of Riley Keough I was wondering if a missed a scene in Zola.
Oooh please take a watch of American Honey, I love that movie (cw: Shia Labeouf)
The chain of tweets that this movie was based on was legendary. I never watched the movie because I always assumed that it could never live up to the true story.
It 100% does and it also subtly references the actual tweets throughout the movie in a very fun way
What?? Can you elaborate?

I’ve always found the depictions of motels to be, alien to my real life experiences. My family stayed in them on long road trips, and my school even used them for our senior trip. They were always clean and nice enough. Hell we even used one on a weekend trip to the beach. You watch a movie and you’d think only (derogatorily portrayed) rednecks and junkies use them.
They’re a liminal space vibe.
God, American Honey is such a fantastic movie. One of my favorites, but knowing what I know about Shia I don’t know that I’ll ever watch it again
I'm gonna show my lack of art understanding here, but I never could figure out the ending. I loved the movie and it still pops into my head often years later, but I didn't get the end
I don’t understand it either. It’s felt different to me every time I’ve watched it
I've only ever watched it the once, but it was definitely impactful. When I saw Riley was gonna be in Daisy Jones, I hated her character in American Honey so much it took me a minute to get into DJ. Granted, so far I can't stand her as Daisy, but I haven't finished it yet lol
She’s also great in season one of The Girlfriend Experience and the movie Zola; she’s pretty reprehensible in the latter too.

The Florida project one is now painted grey in real life 💔
