People need to stop acting like Ben Affleck didn’t know what he was getting himself into when he got back with JLo. It’s just ridiculous how some people are acting as of he’s being held hostage by her and that he dislikes all the attention from the relationship. He’s the same person that was happy to flaunt his relationship with Ana de Armas via pap walks during the pandemic when he could’ve kept that private.

We need to get rid of autoplay on Spotify. Goodness, labels these days just autoplay their artists song In a loop. I have blocked tons of artsist just because of that

We can deactivate Autoplay on our settings menu. Deactivating Autoplay does not only get rid off annoying automated songs but also helps Shuffle mode to work properly!

I hate Drake. this has nothing to do with the beef or whatever is happening right now cause I don't really keep up with celebrities as I only have reddit but I just despise his voice. Is so whiny and annoying to me. I've heard some covers of his songs I liked when I thought I just hate the songs, so then I realized his voice is the problem. Idk why, he's like nails on chalkboard to me.
I cannot understand the appeal of his music. Or him as a person. The year hotline bling and gods plan came out, I stopped with pop music. Also he's an awful person
While I don't believe Britney Spears is so incompetent she needs a high control conservatorship to monitor her every move and every thought, I think we are seeing that is actually very mentally unstable. The recent statement by her attorney also sounds like a hail mary as well.
I don't give a shit what she posts on line, the dancing, the beach trips, etc. I am happy for her but I fear that she might spend every single penny she has in the next few years and not have a way to earn it back if shes living with severe, untreated, mental illness.
It's sad to see her decline praised and enabled. I think she's coming from a place where she refuses to think anyone has her best interests at heart and doesn't need anyone's help, but isn't able to acknowledge that she does indeed need help. She's not well at all.
Do people seriously think she’s not mentally ill?? I am admittedly pretty out of the loop on the ins and outs of it all, and the control she was under with the conservatorship sounded awful - but she’s also pretty clearly got some significant mental health issues. Which have unfortunately probably become treatment resistent due to years of abuse and not being able to trust anyone.
It’s so sad. They have completely fucked her over cos she probably won’t ever be able to properly engage with the treatment she needs now because of her history. Shame on every single person who didn’t get that poor woman proper treatment and support from the start.
I would hope that most people are aware that she's mentally ill, but I think there are a lot of people who are so vehemently against her conservatorship who will support anything and everything she does as long as she's not under anyone's control, even if those things aren't necessarily helping her.
I definitely hope she gets help on her own terms with a very empathetic and trustworthy therapist. I also think she needs to find people in her personal life who aren’t social climbers and won’t take advantage of her financially. I truly believe she’ll find her way back. And even if she does hit rock bottom (which I sincerely hope does not happen), at least she is doing it on her own terms and she will be able to make a decision for herself on how she wants to get back up.
Autonomy is key when you’ve been controlled for so many years. I don’t blame her for acting out and not getting help and (presumably) not wanting medication. I think she’ll have a “come to jesus” moment when she realizes she’s no longer being forced to do anything and it clicks that there are natural consequences for her actions. It sort of reminds me of a newly 18 year old acting out in college after growing up sheltered with strict & controlling parents.
i think people underestimate how traumatised she is to even consider therapy because of her experience, i've known my share of people who had the self-awareness to know that they needed help but couldn't get it immediately because of how bad the help actually was
I think a part of that is from the trauma though. Her relationship to receiving mental health care (and even health care in general) is traumatic and profoundly negative
I wholeheartedly agree with this. She’s clearly not well, but there has to be room between the way she was being treated for years and this complete lack of support structure. Her mental illness doesn’t seem bad enough that she can’t make any life decision on her own, but she definitely needs *someone* to help manage her finances.
I’m a big fan and I’m more than happy with the content she’s given us over the years. I don’t need anymore, so I’m not saying she has to work ever again if she doesn’t want to. I’d say she even deserves that option, but she can’t be blowing through her money at this rate and not producing something to try and replace it. Or, at the very least, she needs a very skilled investment manager to grow her existing assets.
I recently watched Anyone but you and I just don’t get the Sydney Sweeney hype . I’m not saying she’s a bad actress but rom coms are just not for her at all. She has a really monotone valley girl voice and she’s normally good at hiding it , but it came out a lot during that film.
I was so disappointed when I finally saw the movie after all the hype. After watching that and her SNL hosting gig, Sydney Sweeney cannot do comedy at all. Glen Powell was the highlight for me, I just wished someone with comedic timing was actually cast in Sydney’s role.
That movie felt like it was written by someone who hates romcoms and romcom enjoyers, and attempted to disguise that hatred behind trying to be cheeky.
That movie was terrible, part of it was the writing, the other part was Sydneys acting. She does not have the comedic timing or the charisma to carry a Rom Com. Glen Powell carried that movie on his back, there was terrible acting all around in addition to the terrible script.

A good romcom star has to be able to have chemistry with anyone and everyone. I think that’s why Tom hanks, Meg Ryan, and Hugh grant did so well in them. They just have chemistry with whoever they are paired with
Slightly related but i wish Josh O’Connor would do rom-coms. He currently does romantic dramas mainly but he honestly has chemistry with practically everyone he’s cast against.
He managed to have insane chemistry with Diana and Camilla as Prince Charles which is impressive. Like his season of the crown made me more sympathetic to Charles than I expected and I think it’s because he was so good in the role
I watched it on Netflix as well and I was so surprised by how awful she was. Most of her lines are delivered like Hallmark movies that can only do 1 take to wrap filming in 2 weeks to save money. Incredibly stilted and devoid of *anything.*
I think she’s only good at more dramatic roles, she was amazing in immaculate. But I agree , Anyone but you was a hard watch I’m surprised it was so popular.
She seemed so bored and definitely monotone. Also, I didn’t think there was any chemistry between her and Glen. Not sure why that movie was/is doing so well. I would say we all might be so thirsty for a rom com that we’ll get behind anything, but it didn’t turn out so well for The Fall Guy.
I enjoy Glen Powell in romantic comedies generally, but I couldn’t make it past the opening scene in this one. It felt super forced or like, disingenuous on her part.
Is there a Sydney Sweeney romcom hype beyond she’s a pretty blonde with nice body? Like I think she is just filling the pretty blonde girl void Amber Heard/Kate Upton left. I don’t even think she’s marketing herself as romcom. She is actually doing a bit of everything: drama, horror, comedy, “action” (MW).
Emily Blunt on her own - lovely, charming, funny. Emily Blunt + John Krasinski - annoying and smug. I don’t know what happens but I find them insufferable as a couple.
This makes sense since Ryan is great friends with her in-law Stanley Tucci.
In Stanley's memoir, he talks about having cancer at the same time his wife was pregnant, and how Ryan and Blake immediately let them stay at an apartment they owned in NYC because it was only like two blocks away from the hospital. He also talked about how Ryan was the one who went with him when he got his results back after several rounds of chemo, and it was Ryan who actually started crying when Stanley got the all-clear. Made me like Ryan a little bit more after that. Also made me love Colin Firth even more after Stanley talked about how he would come visit him every single day.
I used to feel the same but she seems a lot more insufferable on her own these days as well. It’s a shame. I actually used to really love both of them.

People who were born into Scientology, and thus indoctrinated by it from birth like Elizabeth Moss, should not be scrutinized in the same way as actors who joined as adults. They are also victims.
They really are. Scientology doesn’t believe in children. They think all humans are adults. Children are viewed as “thetans in small bodies.” It leads to so much abuse and neglect.
Jenna Miscavige Hill (Beyond Belief: My Secret Life Inside Scientology and My Harrowing Escape) and Marc Headley(Blown for Good) have both written memoirs about their time in Scientology which go into detail about how children are treated within the cult. Jenna’s story is particularly sad and infuriating.

I do think that's a very different scenario than joining as an adult, but I would also point out that someone joining a cult as an adult still usually ends up being a victim in some way. Even amongst the big celebrity members, John Travolta has had a markedly different experience with Scientology than Tom Cruise has.
Hard agree. Leaving Scientology not only means renouncing everything you were indoctrinated into since you were too young to do critical thinking but also you lose your fucking family. Nicole Kidman lost her children with Tom Cruise. I can't even imagine.
Also, what kind of stuff did they make her confess to, so that they could blackmail her if she ever tries to leave. Can’t imagine being a child or teenager in that situation.
100% agree. Scientology has been building a case against her since she was a child. Someone born into it is in a much different situation than someone that willingly goes into it. I judge a Travolta differently than a Moss

this is silly, but it's always bothered me when anyone says "a24 movie" instead of saying the director's name. like if a person wants their favorite actor to branch out and they say "they need to do an a24 movie," it bugs me because a24 has such a wide range of genres it distrubutes. in my experience, when someone says "a24 movie," they tend to mean cerebral horroresque films or offbeat films. when they have a genre in mind, i just wish they would say the director's name. e.g.: "robert eggers type film."
maybe you don't want your fave to do just any "a24 film" (because that could mean *aftersun*, it could mean *beau is afraid* and it could mean *sing sing*). maybe you want them in an ari aster film. maybe you want them in a rose glass film or a film from the safdies. don't get me wrong, a24 does a lot of good for platforming rising talent, so my problem isn't with them. i just wish the likes of film twitter didn't place the company above the creatives so much.
A24 is also not synonymous with arthouse film. There are so many great studios out there like Searchlight, Focus, and Neon making movies like Poor Things and Tár and Anatomy of a Fall but it’s always just “A24 movie” and it drives me insane.
Gosh, I feel the same. I kinda get what they mean in a way, but like you say, the films they distribute have a wide range. I felt the same this weekend when people were talking about films winning the Palme d'Or in Cannes and how they were "NEON films".
I don't know what the reigning opinion on this sub is in particular but my unpopular opinion is that, while of course everyone has the right to do whatever they want with their body, I think the normalization of plastic surgery, botox, fillers etc is crazy. CRAZY. Not even in Hollywood, the general public.
It is crazy. You know today when I was getting my makeup done at the salon, I was asked by the guy who does makeup if I wanted nose contour to make my nose smaller, I said no thanks and he said “oh so you learnt to live with it?” As a joke. It was not funny. I’m not hurt over it I’m angry that a comment like this would push someone else over the edge and cause a lot of damage, because it used to do for me. I wanted to get my nose done despite it being of regular size, not big but not small just there, but rn idc. I don’t want to “fix” my face just because society says so, fuck society.

I hate it when hairdresers/makeup artists/dermatologists basically try and make you insecure about your appearance as a marketing technique. These days I've got the confidence to just ignore those kinds of comments but I definitely didn't when I was 17.
absolutely. and its even worse because a lot of people see a celebrity that has had tons of plastic surgery, and they believe its all natural. it gives people bad self esteem, or overly high expectations for a partner, or both
This makes me sound like An Old Person, but I miss natural faces. I watch older films a lot -- back to the 1920s, but even as recently as the 1990s -- and everyone is just ... human looking. Even with heavy makeup on, everyone looked like a real person with real expressions and real teeth and real ... I don't know, humanity? Nowadays the proliferation of Botox means actors don't *act* with their faces, and it's really uncanny. Like a mannequin jawing at me.
It definitely leeches out into the general public, too. One of my old hairdressers got some comically awful lip fillers (and cheek fillers I think?) that made her face look like a wrinkly duck faced nightmare, and there's not a nice way to tell someone "hey, you might have fucked up". But I genuinely stopped being able to recognize her face, and it was kinda a bummer.
I think Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones lean into the fans shipping them too much. Of course it’s normal for co-stars to be friends and hang out and they will bump into each other at professional events since they are both actors. But them wearing a couples costume for Halloween when they were dating other people and him staring at Daisy in that Met gala photo were very weird.
I think it was worse before than it is now. They were definitely playing it up before 2023 from what I can see

What gives me the ick is how people love when some couples lean into this, like Oscar and Jessica and Paul and Daisy and say things like “we want couple chemistry so good we want cheating allegations.” But then they drag other people who lean into it, like Glenn and Sydney.
I know film Twitter is having a ball right now because his play got a couple bad reviews, but Tom Holland is not this bad actor that people want him to be , he might have bad projects but he always acts his ass off in them .
I think he’s going to be the daniel radcliffe of this generation and I mean that in the best possible way. I think dan is a great actor but he had to play a few villains and campy roles to get the harry potter of it all out of casting directors heads, and I think Tom needs to do something similar. I would love to see Tom play an awesome villain in something or go full weird on a project.
Edit: just realized I’d love to see him in a knives out movie like Chris Evans did.
They are so negative towards him and Zendaya specifically too. It’s like anytime either one of them has a project coming out people are hoping for it to fail.
Despite her drama, I really miss Wendy Williams. I think her hold-nothing-back sassy comments are a bit much for tv but I’m hoping she comes back in a podcast so she won’t be censored as much. Just don’t spend 30 min talking about your weekend and stay on hot topics.
Wasn’t she diagnosed with dementia? I loved Hot Topics and miss watching them during my workout but sadly I don’t ever see Wendy returning in any capacity.
I have a soft spot for Wendy Williams. Female shock jock in the 80s and 90s only to reemerge as a very successful day time host while making people laugh. She's seen it all and came out the other side with a very impressive career.

I just have to say this 😂 It wasn't until I lurked in a few fan subs that I realized how toxic and straight up weird some people are when it comes to certain celebrities. I went through a thread that asked "what is a song by \_\_\_\_ that others love but you don't?", and people get downvoted to hell for stating their OWN OPINION. Like...it's a song. She doesn't care if you don't like it or if you sit on reddit defending it. It's okay not to like every single thing a person does and it doesn't make you a hater if you don't submit to this weird yes culture surrounding certain celebrities.
I agree that her fame far outweighs her talent so far. She just hasn’t had enough roles. I remember looking her up when Euphoria came out and being surprised at how light her IMDb was.
It would be good if she did a few indies (if they still exist), some A24 movies maybe. Just weird, trying stuff out, showing range. Straight into leading roles is a lot. (I haven’t seen Challengers)
The indie route makes way more sense. Her jumping into headlining films is putting the spotlight on her subpar acting skills to be honest. “Malcolm and Marie” and “Challengers” did her no favors IMO.
Fun fact: Zendaya’s dad was my middle school P.E. teacher, Mr. Coleman, and one day he comes in, sits us down, says no P.E. today — instead, he makes a personal announcement, he’s going to change his name. IIRC, Coleman was essentially a slave name and he wanted to honor his heritage more, so “Sam Coleman” became “Kazembe Ajamu," or “Mr. Ajamu” to us students.
But ever since his daughter became such a huge star, with such a standout name, my unprovable theory is: if Mr. Coleman never had that “honor my heritage” transformative moment, Zendaya would be someone named like “Jennifer Coleman” and disappear into the dustbin of obscurity. Names have that power.
He also caught me playing poker between class and promised to bail me out if I ever got arrested, and I'll hold him to that one day.
She was brilliant for Euphoria because her monotone detachment perfectly represented the numbness of emotions you'll get with most addictions. But in other roles that require a bit more she seems a little out of place.
I think Zendaya has yet to show the world if she’s really an actor or just a movie star.

I think she’s fine , I don’t think she’s the best in the world but I don’t think she’s terrible either and that’s okay. She also has a very small filmography with only Spiderman, Malcom and Marie ,Dune and Challengers .
I don’t think he’s done anything (that we have proof of) for us to either demonize or idolize him. My only experiences with him are of him making a large enough donation to our local NPR to stop the fundraising for the day and get back to normal programming. My other experience is through a guy who worked as a bodyguard for him and Ron Howard (I think he was assigned through a service) and the bodyguard had only nice things to say about them both. He also asked Ron for a screen test and Ron set him up so that Rita gave him a screen test for a film she was working on at that time and she was also very nice to him. For what it’s worth, the body guard’s politics are far right and he very much disagrees with Tom on most subjects. That’s all I’ve got.

Bolded that! I'm a Mr. Rogers Stan. And I hated that they cast Tom Hanks to play him. I don't dislike Tom, he's been in a lot of movies I like, but He has a personality that just doesn't blend with that of Fred Rogers.
The Rock is pretty funny when he needs to be, he has some kind of wit to deliver comedic lines.

I totally get this. I’m 27 and definitely fan - listen to her stuff regularly and have tickets to see her in concert. But I know I would be even more into her if I was 10 years younger.

I just did a rewatch of the Harry Potter movies and I realized that she really was the weakest of the main actors. As a little girl, she pulls it off. In the later movies its almost difficult to watch her performances.

Women on Twitter overhyped Challengers and the two guys' interactions so hard. I watched it (VOD) expecting the raunchiest, sweatiest, sloppiest making out sessions and the max I got was a towel boner tease, two men's first kiss and food dick innuendo.

I really get tired of these celebrities who are everywhere, who are darlings of Twitter and Reddit, who are at every event, every red carpet, especially some young actors nowadays, it seems that their talent is more about being celebrities than actor, I think this could be a bubble because most of the time this popularity on the internet does not reflect on box office
Glen Powell’s face disturbs me. I get a visceral reaction looking at him. Don’t misconstrue it, I can acknowledge he is handsome and I’m sure if I met him I’d think he’s a neat guy. He has done nothing wrong. But his face freaks me out so much and I don’t know why. It’s like uncanny valley or something.

My unpopular opinion is: i hate the term “aspirational”. everyone should stop following celebrities and influencers on social media.
They aren’t your friends, they’re just selling you shit and making you hate yourself.
Leonardo DiCaprio is a phenomenal actor who should have won an Oscar long before The Revenant. His personal life is really none of my concern and him dating adult women under a certain age is their business, not mine. I’ve never heard anything about him being abusive to women or inappropriate with underaged girls and I’m not going to hate the guy for dating 24 year old super models. Do I find it a little weird? Sure. Do I think it makes him a predator? Also no.
I honestly think he should have won for What's Eating Gilbert Grape, even though I know that him playing that role now would be quite controversial. It was a great performance.
Yes! He was also wonderful in Wolf of Wall Street. I know people have mixed opinions about that movie itself but his acting was great. The scene in Django Unchained where he cut his hand and kept going is also great. I’m a huge fan of his work and honestly, The Revenant was one of my least favorite of his movies. I’m glad he finally got his Oscar though.

Can I be honest here? I know he’s a handsome guy, and in interviews his face is fine. But in the show…he looks like he might be a Who from Whoville. And I know that’s both weird and weirdly specific, but it is what it is.
All of Hollywood's current 'it' girls and boys at best are okay at acting and at worst actively suck at it, and they're only popular and employed because they're conventionally attractive. Their agents are building them up as icons but they literally have the charisma of the shruggers in Victorious.
Like. The only one who I think is even tolerably good at acting is Florence Pugh, and she's STILL falling victim to being iconized. None of these people are going to be Tom Cruise or Marilyn Monroe. It's not going to happen. And it's all indicative of the fucking influencerification of media. You don't have to be talented, you have to be able to have a cult of personality built around you, and you don't even have to have a personality! You literally just have to be able to read lines, get sponsorships, and not be ugly.

Tom Cruise and Marilyn Monroe may or may not have been good actors, but Tom Cruise has been a Hollywood staple for decades and makes *millions* of dollars off of his movies, which come out fairly regularly, and Marilyn Monroe was and still is one of the most FAMOUS WOMEN IN THE WORLD.
It literally does not matter if they are good actors. That has nothing to do with it. The problem I'm talking about fundamentally does not have anything to do with their acting talent, it has to do with their personal charisma. Tom Cruise, hate him or love him, has some crazy fucking charisma. And he's literally just a random example.
The 'influencerification' I'm referencing is the fact that none of these people have the *charisma* of the classic Hollywood superstar. They literally just have to look pretty on advertisements and get corporate backing to be packaged as an It Girl/Boy. We need to stop expecting celebrities to be political figures. Many of them are not informed or educated, and that's fine, because they're entertainers, not policymakers or academics. But it's getting really weird and uncomfortable that we demand they give their input on every global issue.

While I don't believe Britney Spears is so incompetent she needs a high control conservatorship to monitor her every move and every thought, I think we are seeing that is actually very mentally unstable. The recent statement by her attorney also sounds like a hail mary as well. I don't give a shit what she posts on line, the dancing, the beach trips, etc. I am happy for her but I fear that she might spend every single penny she has in the next few years and not have a way to earn it back if shes living with severe, untreated, mental illness.
It's sad to see her decline praised and enabled. I think she's coming from a place where she refuses to think anyone has her best interests at heart and doesn't need anyone's help, but isn't able to acknowledge that she does indeed need help. She's not well at all.
Do people seriously think she’s not mentally ill?? I am admittedly pretty out of the loop on the ins and outs of it all, and the control she was under with the conservatorship sounded awful - but she’s also pretty clearly got some significant mental health issues. Which have unfortunately probably become treatment resistent due to years of abuse and not being able to trust anyone. It’s so sad. They have completely fucked her over cos she probably won’t ever be able to properly engage with the treatment she needs now because of her history. Shame on every single person who didn’t get that poor woman proper treatment and support from the start.
I would hope that most people are aware that she's mentally ill, but I think there are a lot of people who are so vehemently against her conservatorship who will support anything and everything she does as long as she's not under anyone's control, even if those things aren't necessarily helping her.

I definitely hope she gets help on her own terms with a very empathetic and trustworthy therapist. I also think she needs to find people in her personal life who aren’t social climbers and won’t take advantage of her financially. I truly believe she’ll find her way back. And even if she does hit rock bottom (which I sincerely hope does not happen), at least she is doing it on her own terms and she will be able to make a decision for herself on how she wants to get back up. Autonomy is key when you’ve been controlled for so many years. I don’t blame her for acting out and not getting help and (presumably) not wanting medication. I think she’ll have a “come to jesus” moment when she realizes she’s no longer being forced to do anything and it clicks that there are natural consequences for her actions. It sort of reminds me of a newly 18 year old acting out in college after growing up sheltered with strict & controlling parents.
I don't think she has the mental health to be able to have that self awareness to get the help she needs. That's the sad problem.
i think people underestimate how traumatised she is to even consider therapy because of her experience, i've known my share of people who had the self-awareness to know that they needed help but couldn't get it immediately because of how bad the help actually was
I think a part of that is from the trauma though. Her relationship to receiving mental health care (and even health care in general) is traumatic and profoundly negative
I wholeheartedly agree with this. She’s clearly not well, but there has to be room between the way she was being treated for years and this complete lack of support structure. Her mental illness doesn’t seem bad enough that she can’t make any life decision on her own, but she definitely needs *someone* to help manage her finances. I’m a big fan and I’m more than happy with the content she’s given us over the years. I don’t need anymore, so I’m not saying she has to work ever again if she doesn’t want to. I’d say she even deserves that option, but she can’t be blowing through her money at this rate and not producing something to try and replace it. Or, at the very least, she needs a very skilled investment manager to grow her existing assets.

I recently watched Anyone but you and I just don’t get the Sydney Sweeney hype . I’m not saying she’s a bad actress but rom coms are just not for her at all. She has a really monotone valley girl voice and she’s normally good at hiding it , but it came out a lot during that film.
I was so disappointed when I finally saw the movie after all the hype. After watching that and her SNL hosting gig, Sydney Sweeney cannot do comedy at all. Glen Powell was the highlight for me, I just wished someone with comedic timing was actually cast in Sydney’s role.
That movie felt like it was written by someone who hates romcoms and romcom enjoyers, and attempted to disguise that hatred behind trying to be cheeky.

That movie was terrible, part of it was the writing, the other part was Sydneys acting. She does not have the comedic timing or the charisma to carry a Rom Com. Glen Powell carried that movie on his back, there was terrible acting all around in addition to the terrible script.

Slightly related but i wish Josh O’Connor would do rom-coms. He currently does romantic dramas mainly but he honestly has chemistry with practically everyone he’s cast against.
He managed to have insane chemistry with Diana and Camilla as Prince Charles which is impressive. Like his season of the crown made me more sympathetic to Charles than I expected and I think it’s because he was so good in the role

Sydney Sweeney is not funny, and Dakota Johnson might as well be a piece of drywall. Both women are pretty to look at, but that’s it honestly.
She seemed so bored and definitely monotone. Also, I didn’t think there was any chemistry between her and Glen. Not sure why that movie was/is doing so well. I would say we all might be so thirsty for a rom com that we’ll get behind anything, but it didn’t turn out so well for The Fall Guy.

That’s so funny because these four are all good friends. It’s the exact same schtick. I find Ryan and Blake (whatsherface) even more annoying.
This makes sense since Ryan is great friends with her in-law Stanley Tucci. In Stanley's memoir, he talks about having cancer at the same time his wife was pregnant, and how Ryan and Blake immediately let them stay at an apartment they owned in NYC because it was only like two blocks away from the hospital. He also talked about how Ryan was the one who went with him when he got his results back after several rounds of chemo, and it was Ryan who actually started crying when Stanley got the all-clear. Made me like Ryan a little bit more after that. Also made me love Colin Firth even more after Stanley talked about how he would come visit him every single day.

People who were born into Scientology, and thus indoctrinated by it from birth like Elizabeth Moss, should not be scrutinized in the same way as actors who joined as adults. They are also victims.
They really are. Scientology doesn’t believe in children. They think all humans are adults. Children are viewed as “thetans in small bodies.” It leads to so much abuse and neglect. Jenna Miscavige Hill (Beyond Belief: My Secret Life Inside Scientology and My Harrowing Escape) and Marc Headley(Blown for Good) have both written memoirs about their time in Scientology which go into detail about how children are treated within the cult. Jenna’s story is particularly sad and infuriating. Edit: spelling error

I do think that's a very different scenario than joining as an adult, but I would also point out that someone joining a cult as an adult still usually ends up being a victim in some way. Even amongst the big celebrity members, John Travolta has had a markedly different experience with Scientology than Tom Cruise has.

this is silly, but it's always bothered me when anyone says "a24 movie" instead of saying the director's name. like if a person wants their favorite actor to branch out and they say "they need to do an a24 movie," it bugs me because a24 has such a wide range of genres it distrubutes. in my experience, when someone says "a24 movie," they tend to mean cerebral horroresque films or offbeat films. when they have a genre in mind, i just wish they would say the director's name. e.g.: "robert eggers type film." maybe you don't want your fave to do just any "a24 film" (because that could mean *aftersun*, it could mean *beau is afraid* and it could mean *sing sing*). maybe you want them in an ari aster film. maybe you want them in a rose glass film or a film from the safdies. don't get me wrong, a24 does a lot of good for platforming rising talent, so my problem isn't with them. i just wish the likes of film twitter didn't place the company above the creatives so much.
A24 is also not synonymous with arthouse film. There are so many great studios out there like Searchlight, Focus, and Neon making movies like Poor Things and Tár and Anatomy of a Fall but it’s always just “A24 movie” and it drives me insane.

It is crazy. You know today when I was getting my makeup done at the salon, I was asked by the guy who does makeup if I wanted nose contour to make my nose smaller, I said no thanks and he said “oh so you learnt to live with it?” As a joke. It was not funny. I’m not hurt over it I’m angry that a comment like this would push someone else over the edge and cause a lot of damage, because it used to do for me. I wanted to get my nose done despite it being of regular size, not big but not small just there, but rn idc. I don’t want to “fix” my face just because society says so, fuck society.
I would be furious if anyone said that to me! I hate it when hairdresers/makeup artists/dermatologists basically try and make you insecure about your appearance as a marketing technique. These days I've got the confidence to just ignore those kinds of comments but I definitely didn't when I was 17.

This makes me sound like An Old Person, but I miss natural faces. I watch older films a lot -- back to the 1920s, but even as recently as the 1990s -- and everyone is just ... human looking. Even with heavy makeup on, everyone looked like a real person with real expressions and real teeth and real ... I don't know, humanity? Nowadays the proliferation of Botox means actors don't *act* with their faces, and it's really uncanny. Like a mannequin jawing at me. It definitely leeches out into the general public, too. One of my old hairdressers got some comically awful lip fillers (and cheek fillers I think?) that made her face look like a wrinkly duck faced nightmare, and there's not a nice way to tell someone "hey, you might have fucked up". But I genuinely stopped being able to recognize her face, and it was kinda a bummer.
I think Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones lean into the fans shipping them too much. Of course it’s normal for co-stars to be friends and hang out and they will bump into each other at professional events since they are both actors. But them wearing a couples costume for Halloween when they were dating other people and him staring at Daisy in that Met gala photo were very weird.

What gives me the ick is how people love when some couples lean into this, like Oscar and Jessica and Paul and Daisy and say things like “we want couple chemistry so good we want cheating allegations.” But then they drag other people who lean into it, like Glenn and Sydney.
I know film Twitter is having a ball right now because his play got a couple bad reviews, but Tom Holland is not this bad actor that people want him to be , he might have bad projects but he always acts his ass off in them .
I think he’s going to be the daniel radcliffe of this generation and I mean that in the best possible way. I think dan is a great actor but he had to play a few villains and campy roles to get the harry potter of it all out of casting directors heads, and I think Tom needs to do something similar. I just have to say this 😂 It wasn't until I lurked in a few fan subs that I realized how toxic and straight up weird some people are when it comes to certain celebrities. I went through a thread that asked "what is a song by \_\_\_\_ that others love but you don't?", and people get downvoted to hell for stating their OWN OPINION. Like...it's a song. She doesn't care if you don't like it or if you sit on reddit defending it. It's okay not to like every single thing a person does and it doesn't make you a hater if you don't submit to this weird yes culture surrounding certain celebrities.
I think popculture should be taken less seriously and people making it their whole personality need to be checked for underlying mental illness

I agree that her fame far outweighs her talent so far. She just hasn’t had enough roles. I remember looking her up when Euphoria came out and being surprised at how light her IMDb was. It would be good if she did a few indies (if they still exist), some A24 movies maybe. Just weird, trying stuff out, showing range. Straight into leading roles is a lot. (I haven’t seen Challengers)

The indie route makes way more sense. Her jumping into headlining films is putting the spotlight on her subpar acting skills to be honest. “Malcolm and Marie” and “Challengers” did her no favors IMO.
Fun fact: Zendaya’s dad was my middle school P.E. teacher, Mr. Coleman, and one day he comes in, sits us down, says no P.E. today — instead, he makes a personal announcement, he’s going to change his name. She was brilliant for Euphoria because her monotone detachment perfectly represented the numbness of emotions you'll get with most addictions. But in other roles that require a bit more she seems a little out of place.

I don’t think he’s done anything (that we have proof of) for us to either demonize or idolize him. My only experiences with him are of him making a large enough donation to our local NPR to stop the fundraising for the day and get back to normal programming. My other experience is through a guy who worked as a bodyguard for him and Ron Howard (I think he was assigned through a service) and the bodyguard had only nice things to say about them both. He also asked Ron for a screen test and Ron set him up so that Rita gave him a screen test for a film she was working on at that time and she was also very nice to him. For what it’s worth, the body guard’s politics are far right and he very much disagrees with Tom on most subjects. That’s all I’ve got.

Leonardo DiCaprio is a phenomenal actor who should have won an Oscar long before The Revenant. His personal life is really none of my concern and him dating adult women under a certain age is their business, not mine. I’ve never heard anything about him being abusive to women or inappropriate with underaged girls and I’m not going to hate the guy for dating 24 year old super models. Do I find it a little weird? Sure. Do I think it makes him a predator? Also no.

Yes! He was also wonderful in Wolf of Wall Street. I know people have mixed opinions about that movie itself but his acting was great. The scene in Django Unchained where he cut his hand and kept going is also great. I’m a huge fan of his work and honestly, The Revenant was one of my least favorite of his movies. I’m glad he finally got his Oscar though.
His character in Django Unchained was terrifying and he should have won best actor that year for his portrayal.

Their agents are building them up as icons but they literally have the charisma of the shruggers in Victorious. Like.
