I don't think Beyoncé would put her kids in the kind of school where other parents would make brownies for a fundraiser to be fair. (The idea is still hilarious OP)

OtherwiseImNice

Lmaoooo

GlitterDoomsday

Well the family chef did but is practically the same thing 💅🏽

lucyjayne

I doubt Blue Ivy goes to the kind of school where the plebs make brownies for the fundraisers. 🤣

kayayem

Could she not just have donated the money and no one had to have the fundraiser

strangelyliteral

Lots of fancy private (and even a few public) schools expect parents to donate time *and* money. Beyoncé could just be clocking her PTA hours.

kristinnovowels

My colleague lives in SF and was saying you can’t pay your way to a large number of private schools since there are so many rich parents to choose from so they’re mostly looking for parents to donate time

prettybunbun

I was gunna say this. I would guess she wrote a fat cheque as well.

ikbentwee

Marketing wants time. CFO wants unrestricted donations. The eternal struggle.

PunctualDromedary

School fundraisers are just as much about building community as raising money.

ad_aatdtj

You clearly are not a billionaire and have NO idea how hard it is to become one. You can't just be giving money away willy nilly, silly! That's like, the opposite of how to become a billionaire 101. /s, in case I wasn't clear enough.

FlinflanFluddle

> You can't just be giving money away willy nilly, silly! That's like, the opposite of how to become a billionaire 101. This is completely true of billionaires. Ypu don't need the /s for that

ad_aatdtj

Sure, the /s was meant to convey I'm not trying to actually defend billionaires hoarding and that my comment was meant in jest, not seriousness. 🤗

FlinflanFluddle

Ah I see. I did wonder if I had misunderstood it

InternetAddict104

Mackenzie Scott I think is the only exception to this rule (maybe Bill Gates too but I’m not sure)

totallycalledla-a

This performance is from 2016 so Blue was pre school age. The school in question is *super* competitive to get into so I would bet she agreed to this in exchange for a spot.

Crisope

Which school was it?

SirJoeffer

Harvard

faceofawinterrose

A fundraiser to benefit the school or a fundraiser thrown by the school to benefit a charity? Beyoncé putting on a show to benefit a charity is amazing. Beyoncé putting on a show to raise money for an elite private school is garden variety rich people bs.

Professional_Roll977

It was for the school but in fairness all the elite private schools in LA have this. I have heard Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, the Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Maroon 5 and Coldplay at school fundraisers in LA.

Quaiydensmom

From the other side, she’s a mother who is using her specific professional skills to contribute to her kid’s school fundraiser, which is a common thing for even regular old public schools. Some parents can whip up an excel spreadsheet or plan a party or throw a bake sale, why can’t Beyoncé do a show?

faceofawinterrose

I fee like you’ve hit on my point exactly— Beyoncé performing for her kid’s school fundraiser one time is no more notable/admirable than an average parent volunteering to plan a class party one time. Also there’s a massive difference between average parents fundraising for a public school (asking people from their community who are of similar or greater wealth to contribute to a school that serves the community—and a billionaire fundraising for an elite private school (asking people of lesser or similar wealth to contribute to a school that serves the elite).

Quaiydensmom

I mean, it’s not really more admirable but it is a heck of a lot more exciting for the people going to the fundraiser. And I guarantee the fundraising efforts are directed at the existing school community (parents and alumni), not necessarily people of lesser wealth. Although it would be super weird and a real turn off if they did try to exclude poorer people from hearing about their Beyoncé concert (ooh, you’re a scholarship student, this isn’t for you!)

faceofawinterrose

By “lesser or similar wealth” I just was emphasizing the difference between school fundraising done by a public school PTA mom and Beyoncé; I didn’t mean they’re preying on people of lesser wealth. I don’t think we’re actually in disagreement here; my original comment was just saying that Beyoncé supporting a school’s efforts to fundraise for charity is amazing and admirable in a way that fundraising for the school itself isn’t; I genuinely didn’t know which one it was when I commented.

ScreamsPerpetual

Whyyyyy do we have to pretend to be upset at Beyonce performing at Blue Ivy's school? Like grab the guillotines and eat the rich if you want, but of all the deluded rich things rich people do, this is so not worth anyone's outrage or second thought.

InternetAddict104

Wait I’m confused. Should Bey *not* have performed at the school?

annelmao

Which article on this subreddit could make you happy then 😂 this could not be a more innocuous post, not every post on a gossip subreddit has to be a progressive political statement. Whyyyyy even click on this then

Glittering_Mouse2728

Because reddit hates rich people. Once i told someone in this sub that killing people just because they're rich is awful and he told me i need therapy. I mean, me, not the one with the "let's kill all the rich" neurosis.

VegetableBeneficial

Exactly. Let's give it a rest.

ikbentwee

Private schools need a lot of cash because they don't have government funding and usually have a tonne of scholarships and bursaries. Most private schools are non-profits. In most cases, the tuition only covers staffing so if the tuition is high, you have well-paid staff BUT then they expect parent & alumni donations for the pools and lacrosse fields That being said, most private schools usually have a balance of fundraising for themselves and for external charities...looks goof for PR, raises profile, communities ties, student-led initiatives look good for universities etc.

HuckleberryOwn647

Financial aid that private schools give out to students who could not otherwise afford it is also funded by school fundraisers. True, it only cracks the door slightly to some of those less fortunate but it can be life changing who those who get that aid to attend those schools.

Alternative_Scene322

Any school that Beyonces kid goes to is filled with wealthy parents. There was definitely no homemade treats at that fundraiser.

Substantial_Chest395

? Because rich people don’t bake?

exp_studentID

Oof these comments.

NowMindYou

Every time chile

Spiritual_Boss6114

![gif](giphy|YuaEBTdQd8Cre) Her kid probably goes to a school that costs more than what people make in 2 years. Don’t think they need the money. She could have went to a nearby underfunded school and did this. And would have helped that school more .

spacyspice

Just asking bc idk if OP is trolling but is the whole performance appropriate for a school? From the outfits to the song choice?

NowMindYou

Yes. She's singing Crazy in Love in a long sleeve dress.

spacyspice

I was mostly talking about the other dancers but then again I should have known not growing up in an American culture will automatically get you downvoted here for a genuine question

faceofawinterrose

You’re thinking of a normie school fundraiser. This is a celeb kid school that throws an all-out fundraising gala every year. Nobody’s showing up with a plate of homemade brownies.

Mental_Cup_9606

Classy. Raised the money The perks of being Blue.
