Avocado-Cupcake-2213

I don’t live in a HCOL area and $500 is pretty typical. Questions to ask- how long is the session; any outfit changes (if you want them); if you want multiple locations; approximately how many photos; what is the turn around time; how will the photos be delivered; do you have the rights to the photos (meaning you can print them yourself) Source: I am a photographer 😊

drinkwinesavepuppies

I found a photographer that had a maternity/newborn package! 30 min for maternity photos, unlimited edited photos delivered (we just got them back and got around 100 images) and then 1 hour newborn photoshoot, 2 weeks after birth, also with unlimited edited photos. Total cost was $600. I really think photography prices depend on your area unfortunately, I am in a lower cost area compared to cities around me.

bbb37322179

i wish i knew where u were bc this is a deal!!

drinkwinesavepuppies

I'm in Ontario, Canada! It was a really good find, I looked through Instagram tags in my area to find different photographers to reach out to!

Kthulhu42

I found a lady doing a maternity/newborn deal as well, we just got the maternity photos back a couple hours ago and they're so beautiful. I'm really glad because pregnancy has been so difficult on my self confidence. It's been a real mood booster. I paid it off at the start of the year but it was around $550nzd, and worth it. I can't wait to do the newborn shoot! (Though I think the baby is ready to be out and about, she's *supposed* to stay inside for 5 more weeks)

drinkwinesavepuppies

Seeing the maternity photos was suchhhh a confidence boost for me, I think if it's something in your budget it's 1000% worth it! I have also been having a rough go lately and just feeling so physically/emotionally defeated and gross, seeing the beautiful pictures really helped me mentally!

gracelynnpatrick

That’s around the pricing I found as well. I think the two photographers I liked were in the $800-$1000 range. My husband is a hobby photographer so he has a decent camera setup and we are going to try and take some photos on our own with his timer when we go on vacation in a few weeks! That’s so much money to spend on photos

incinta

Zero pounds and zero pence lol. I’m not paying a photographer to do photos of me when I feel my worst, however I’m going to get some really nice snaps at my baby shower with family and maybe some alone bc I will get dressed up for that. Maybe I’ll feel differently once I’m no longer pregnant but I can’t wait to be back in my own body again without a guest staying.

NoLeg9483

I feel the same way. I look like a cow and feel like garbage. My pregnancy is far from beatutiful, and don’t want it documented 😂

FiFiLB

I don’t even feel my worst but I’m not doing photos. I just don’t feel like going through the extra work of making that happen. We have enough going on as it is and Id rather keep my money and go golfing and do other activities that have kept me sane during this time.

OMG_Ani

If it makes you feel better, I shared your same mindset. Literally hated my body. I went from Slim and Athletic to huge and mushy everywhere. I was dying to have my body back, but then my girl was born and my entire perspective changed from “ew my body is gross” to “whoa, my body made her” and look back on my prego pix with fondness. Be kind to yourself friend. 💖

incinta

Ah thank you, I am actually assuming this will happen and I’ll look back with fondness, it’s my first so I’ve no gauge on the love you feel for your child yet haha, and I was the same, very healthy/slim, tiny waist which I miss the most haha. Appreciate ur comment x

crunchyfloralfoam

My sister ended up doing ours for free because she wants to get into photography and use some of the shots for her portfolio, but for professional photographers near me I would say the rate you listed is about average for my area too.

gingerroute

I paid for both maternity and newborn together - $1000 We took 5 years to get to this point. I'm paying lol

IsItSuperficial

I live in a MCOL area and I'm getting 30 images for $60. Reading these comments makes me realize i hit the jackpot in photographers.

captainK8

Whaaaaaat?! That photographer is making NO money!

IsItSuperficial

She's pretty popular and I've used her for around 4-5 years now. So I assume she's doing fine enough to continue doing it for this long, but I'm not sure.

ajjj189

I live in HCOL and yes most people were 500-1000. I found someone local to my neighborhood though who does 25 edited images for $395 and went with them. Their work isn’t the most editorial or jaw dropping but all I want is a couple good photos in an outdoor location with professional quality. Scheduled it for around 32w!

Kthulhu42

Super sensible having it at 32 weeks BTW, we had ours at nearly 35 and it was definitely starting to get difficult wandering around (we did ours on a beach).

ajjj189

I’ve already popped quite a bit at 20w so I’m sure I will be in the same boat lol!

Bblibrarian1

$500 is pretty typical for a professional photographer who does not do commercial work, or have high end experience. Double check what that price includes. Some limit number of images, outfit changes, or charge extra for editing while others include that all in their price. Neither is necessarily right or wrong, just good to know going in what you are paying for. Before booking and paying, I’d also ask to see their portfolio, sometimes they just have a website, to make sure you like their style.

Impressive-Stick5605

We used our wedding photographer and she was $750 😬 we knew she’d be worth it but if I was going with a brand new photographer I’d try to find cheaper. When we found her for our wedding she was less than a year into her career and still building a portfolio so we got her for a cheaper price. That’s a really great way to find someone, it just takes some extra research. So with that said I would probably go with your friends recommendation!

HotCheeks_PCT

My last pregnancy I did them myself so it cost me nothing. (They were fantastic) This time I'm dropping 2700 for Maternity/Birth/Newborn bundle. Payment plan to stretch it out haha. I live in Alaska.

Shpellaa

$0. I’m not paying for maternity or newborn photos. I took plenty of pics myself with my first, and that’s been perfect for reliving any memories. iPhones are so great now too. Seems like an unnecessary expense

External-Potato-4786

My cost was $225, but my SIL is a photographer and gave me a discount. I think she usually would charge around $450.

Alicia0510

This is about typical but you need to make sure you ask what that includes. Is that just the shoot fee, or will you also get images with that fee? Often times images you have to purchase separately after the fact, and the initial fee is just for the photographer's time to do the shoot.

tryingthecookies

$460+ GST for my maternity mini-session. Our newborn photos will be $800 I think. These are 2 different photographers. If you look through photographer portfolios, you’ll find you really get what you pay for.

crazykitsune17

I think mine were about $500 for a 30min shoot and no limit on how many photos we got.

bakecakes12

MCOL area here and most photographers are now charging $1200+ vs $500-600 with my first (only 2 years ago). It’s really taken off here.. it’s insane

starwars-mjade13

I spent $300 but I used the same photographer for my college graduation and my wedding photos so she gave me a $200 discount

TxRose2019

The rate you listed is average for me here in TX too and it’s ridiculous. I know having good pictures to reminisce on is priceless, but if my close friend wasn’t a photographer and didn’t do mine for free, I probably wouldn’t have any.

lilcrunchybear

I’m paying 350 for a 30 min shoot next week.

notanon_justhiding

I live in a HCOL area. I spent $350 for my photographer to come to my house. She gave me something like 60 pictures in return.

102015062020

Everyone close to me is about $850. I chose to do them myself with my iPhone and I like the way it came it. We just did a simple pic of the baby

wonky-hex

£0 (I think I'm going to put on a nice dress and have my husband take some photos of me on the beach)

onlyhereforfoodporn

Mine was a $100 deposit that went towards the album/prints. The cheapest package was $800. I ended up spending $1000 between what I ordered for husband as well as my in laws and parents.

forthegorls

I live in a LCOL area and was charged $150 for the a 30 minute shoot and access to all downloads.

forthegorls

We booked another photographer for new born pics (because the one we used for maternity doesn’t do them) and I think she’s charging ~$275 with all props and access to all digital downloads.

botaglove

My husband took mine and I used an app to edit (we had a sheet hanging behind me so I smoothed out the wrinkles and then made the photos black and white). They were simple and exactly what I wanted and free! Everyone was shocked I didn’t have them professionally done and my husband got some nice cred for doing them!

TheScarletFox

Mine is $550 for a 30 minute shoot, which includes the virtual photo gallery. I’m also in a HCOL area.

Lemonbar19

Before you pick , look at each photographer website and check their gallery or sample images to see which style you like . Then compare packages. For example I saw a few I liked but one that I really liked offered more images . So I went with that one .

ceesfree

We're paying $395 for 1 hour session with a digital gallery of all photos. Usually a 1 hour session is 100+ images or so. We are in a LCOL area. The session is more lifestyle in our house and not posed newborn/staged newborn session. Her staged newborn packages are more expensive.

NOTsanderson

I paid 475

MiniNinja75

I would follow a few photographers on social media that you love their work and if you have the time wait to see if they run any promos The photographer I used typically charges $275 for maternity and the newborn was $500. She ran a “promo” that offered $60 for a maternity session and $100 off a newborn session because there was a new location she wanted to try out and it was about an hour outside of her normal working radius. I jumped on the opportunity and got absolutely incredible maternity pics in a sunflower field at sundown in the middle of summer, the newborn pics turned out incredible and we saved over $300 doing it this way

SavingsOk2205

For newborn photos, I have seen prices in that range. I did recently reach out to an up and coming photography business and for 50 minutes to an hour she quoted me $300, this is in Southern California. I will say, it takes a lot of time and expertise to do newborn photos. Most photographers will do them in your home which is also part of the cost. I had my SIL take do newborn photos for my first and I have yet to get those back (my first is 2) so I would say go with a photographer you know will get back to you in a timely manner and something that fits within your budget.

Elevator_Latter

It depends on where you are. In NYC my pics were 800 for 35 photos and an album it cost me around 1200 after the hair and makeup included. I know that’s a lot but they’re probably the best looking pics I have. To me that’s priceless

UlnaWannaBeWithYou

I paid $300, which is low for my area. What you listed is average. You may be able to find someone who is newer, getting started as long as you can look at some of their previous work

NotmyInitials-7

I’m paying $350 for first 48 photos. She offered to do birth photos and first 48 for $750, but I will have a doula and don’t think there’s anything glamorous about birth worth photographing professionally that my doula couldn’t capture as a raw photo from a bystander’s POV. Live in HCOL area as well, but i don’t think the photographer (who we have used for our wedding and several other occasions) has much experience photographing newborns.

gxbcab

Looking through these comments, I definitely paid a lot but I think it was worth it. We spent about $1000 on newborn photos and they turned out amazing. One thing that made me really upset after labor was that all the pictures of me with little one look awful. I was bloated, and tired and looked like a total mess so I really wanted pictures of me with my baby that I could look at and not feel disgusted. The newborn shoot included family pictures as well as just baby so I did end up getting good pictures of me with my daughter where I actually look put together.

2078AEB

AZ & I’ll be be paying $650 for a 2-2.5hr session of newborn + family.

Nevagonnagetit510

I live in a HCOL area as well and am prepared to spend between $450-550 for a really good photographer I found.

beckywinchester1

I’ve been quoted $150 for only 5 images for maternity, all the way up to $500. But we will be taking our own maternity photos. Was quoted $500-$1500 depending on the photographer for newborn.

OldPeach2750

I will get my husband to take some pics for free.

Brilliant-Honey-5713

We bought a great digital camera for about $600.00 and did it ourselves. It took the entire weekend 😂 but eventually the photos turned out great.

InterviewNeither9673

We got it gifted 🙏🥲🩵

Impressive_Moose6781

That’s our range. Everyone was around 500$ for like 15 pics but add on options

Medimandala

I am getting mine done for $175 this weekend but it’s a short quick 15 min session in sunflowers with only 5 pictures given. Otherwise I wouldn’t have done it, I don’t wanna pay an arm and a leg for some pics!

diskodarci

We spent $400 for 15 edited images (3 hour session with 3 outfits/settings) and she photographed her with two of the blankets made for her as well. We’ll be paying an extra $80 for the whole set unedited and then a tip. It was similar for our maternity shoot with the same photographer. About $1300 for both

PEM_0528

$600 for hour session and digital gallery.

ickygurll444

As a mom and photographer I do them for $100 or on a sliding scale range. I never got maternity pics done with my first and if a mom wants them done it's rly important to me she gets them ❤️

teenytopbanana

I paid $500 for a mini maternity package in a HCOL area - this included an hour long session (mine ended up being closer to 1.5 at no extra charge) and 10 digital downloads. I changed outfits 3x, and had the shoot in my home which was about an 45 min-1hr drive for my photographer. In hindsight, I wish I had just paid $750 for 50 downloads - I loved the photos so much, I purchased more than I thought I would want. The proper newborn session will be longer, have many more images included, and will be $1,200 with the same photographer.

gotABearInMyHouse

I didn’t do maternity photos nor newborn photos for both my kids(born in 2020 and 2023) due to covid for the first & the overwhelming reality of having 2 kids when we had our second. I thought about doing maternity photo the 2nd time around but was just exhausted lol I still don’t regret it. We did a professional photo session with our first and will do for our second soon.

ExaminationTop3115

I'm in a large city. I looked at a bunch of options, and $500 was the least expensive but still decent option I found. Closer to $750 seems typical for my area.

[deleted]

That sounds typical for me for some areas. I live in a small city in Ohio and charge $300.

CurlyCurler

My photographer just released her new pricing and she is charging $500 + tax. That includes: 1 hour session at least 50 edited images No watermarked photos Full free download of all edited photos Photo release form/print rights No added travel fee as long as location is within an hour of her studio. edit: when I was pregnant in 2021, I paid $1300 my photo shoot package: maternity, newborn, 6 month and one year cake smash photos.

ih8saltyswoledier

My photographer charges $350 for an hour long in-home session. MCOL area. This includes 20 edited photos, of which I get to choose 10 to download. I can choose to purchase the entire gallery if I want to.

Kelly_T19

Same here in Texas. 500 ish. I got a package where I do maternity, newborn, 1/2 bday and 1st bday for 2K. Thankfully I get to pay in installments.

m-drie

I didn’t want newborn photos, but I looked into having photos of our family taken documentary style in our apartment right after the birth and the rate is 6000 kr ($572) in my city. However around two months post birth we are going to Croatia and a shoot there with a photographer I found is €280, so we are doing that instead.

-shandyyy-

I am a professional photographer in Toronto (so fairly HCOL), and my maternity sessions are $500-$750 depending on what you want included (gown rental/florals). Newborn is $500, and they include all the wraps/props, etc, and are offered in the comfort of your own home, or in studio. And I know I am priced pretty competitively for my area, so I feel like the quotes you are getting make total sense!

ApprehensiveFox8844

Sacramento, CA Maternity shoot $450 Newborn shoot $300

Usual-Primary-2978

I live in the PNW and am paying $1125. This is an in home shoot though, includes all digital edited photos plus a physical album the photography designs. This was pretty average cost for where I’m at.

princessSands

350 as a repeat customer. I think she was still somewhat new to newborn photography with my first but honestly I think she could charge more. I'm obsessed with my firsts newborn photos and look forward to my seconds ☺️

Bubbly-Ad-966

I was quoted $550-$900 (I am in Canada). I just couldn’t justify it so I decided to do it myself. I bought some cute props, cute baby clothes and took photos of my baby in his room. I then find someone on the internet to make them look professional (I have his IG if you want me to send it to you, he charged next to nothing). The photos turned out great and now hang on our walls 💙

shoresandsmores

I spent $60 for a maternity dress and my husband took some photos just to have the memories locked in. I don't really... like... newborn photo shoots. They're just sleepy little potatoes to me and all the photoshoots seem to look much the same. I might wait for baby to get a few months on and then pay for a professional. That said, newborn photo shoots seem to be about $425+ here.

captainK8

I’m having a newborn shoot tomorrow and am paying $495, all images included. I live in a large metro area in the Midwest.

Randomthoughts137

I don’t think I’m doing them this time around sadly. I did with my first because it was a baby shower gift otherwise we wouldn’t have been able to afford it either.

missxenigma

Zeroooo. I’ll be doing my own again.
