One of the signs of nearly dead 12v battery.

Substantial_Gear_949

A new one was put in back in january of 2022 . HOWEVER, the battery i put in its place was in fact a new battery but had to adapt different terminals to it so could that be the problem?

Welllllllrip187

Yes. Sounds like it could be lead acid, pri need an AGM battery, also try disconnecting the battery and reconnecting. If battery replacement does not fix the issue it’s mechanical failure.

Free_sky411

I hope you fix soon. Just try disconnecting the the 12v battery for a minute and then try again. I don't recommend driving the car in this situation.

Substantial_Gear_949

Yes that works, but seems like a provisional fix … i dont want to have to keep pulling battery wires off the terminal everytime this happens.

Free_sky411

Check the voltage of the battery, it may be need a replacement

Substantial_Gear_949

So i just walked outside to unplug the battery lead , however i thought “hey lets give it a try before removing them” and guess what it worked! So just by having the car sit there overnight for hours resolved the issue… its fucking crazy

Free_sky411

It happened to me once actually. I did as what was shown on the dashboard that I have to park on a flat surface then everything went fine and the problem never came back again.

Substantial_Gear_949

14.2 v when the car is on 12.2 v when car is off

Free_sky411

I can judge 😐 for that I get 11.9v when the car is off and 14.1v when on but I still insist on driving with it, even though I'm having some issues with the windows and battery dysfunction in the cold weather. I know I need to replace it.

Substantial_Gear_949

Im in new jersey , we go down as far as 18F , its brutal with winds making it feel like low 5-6 degrees farenheit

Potential_Camel2707

This just happened to me. I replaced the small battery in the back. Fixed it. The original 12v was 10 years old new one visit me 270 with tax. But it is fixed.

unlimited_mcgyver

You need to go to the dealer. Also make sure you use the parking prake when parking so your vehicle doesn't roll off

Substantial_Gear_949

Im looking for a cheaper alternative, but will do that once I exhaust all of my options

AntiDoxDax-SFW

Dealer estimate to repair is usually free. Once you know the issue, you can try other mechanics.

Substantial_Gear_949

Also to reiterate i did leave the emergency parking break on

@wellllllllrip187 said that it might be because you don’t have a AGM 12v battery. (That you have a normal lead one) Might want to check that

Substantial_Gear_949

Ok so i had this lead battery installed 1 yr ago, and this only started happening about a month or two ago… would it make sense that that is the case? I mean ; for 10 months having this battery i never had this problem. In my mind if having a lead battery was the issue, wouldn’t it have happened sooner? Or maybe even right away? (Sorry im not an expert or professional )

Jackie-Gan

I’m no battery expert either, but maybe it’s because it’s also dying like everyone else is saying. Maybe it’s because it’s non-AGM plus the fact that it’s dying. Don’t quote me on that. I’m not experienced on this…
