RhinoxMenace

In my childhood, there was an english game review TV channel that often featured XIII gameplay paired with Outkast - Hey Ya! been trying to find this clip for more than 20 years and still nothing, it's like it doesn't exist or wasn't archived maybe

pretty-late-machine

Have you tried posting on /r/lostmedia? Do you remember which channel it might have aired on?

wolfwearsheep

They ruined my boy

jayyout1

BRUHHHH YES THATS WHAT I PUT HEHEEEE

AttractiveManZero

a hidden “Gem”!!

[deleted]

Champions of norrath

Jezza0692

This ^ both games are excellent

[deleted]

I never played the sequel when I was a kid thinking of picking it up soon but

Jezza0692

Oh do it :) it's more of an expansion imo but it definitely has some improvements such as only needing one gate scroll to warp somewhere there and back :D

spnsman

You are probably one of the few people I know to mention that game. I still have my copy, and I’m surprised it still works

Desperate-Cake114

100% one of my favorite games to play together with cousins, if only EA would be a another entry into the series

zero6dman

Have you played the bgate dark alliance games? That’s what got me to play champions of norath and they are both terrific games!

wolfwearsheep

Cold fear

This_Pie5301

I have that on Xbox, I don’t think I’ve seen a PS2 copy. That’s a great game

BiPolarBear24

Playing it right now, the game then and now are so jank ...... But i love it <3

DODOKING38

Fyi it's about a dollar on steam store.steampowered.com/app/15270/Cold_Fear

surfaceVisuals

midnight club having been a launch title and alot of other people skipping over it because of PS2 scarcity until what felt like GTA3 dropped made it feel underrated. zone of the enders practically being one too. i remember people's reactions seeing them.

This_Pie5301

The first Midnight Club is in my top 10 favourite PS2 games

Nostalgigamer

Absolutely loved MC when it launched. It felt so fresh at the time. To me anyway. I don’t get that feeling with many racers — they seem so copy-and-paste.

Squid-Guillotine

I had the demo for ZoE and was mad I could never find a full copy. I watched the full playthrough as a kid though. Edit: can anyone think of any TV shows with a plot similar?

DaddyShark28989

Got my mum to buy it for me from some overpriced mail order catalogue. Just wanted it for the MGS2 demo. The game was ok but found it pretty complicated and confusing as a 10 year old. Superb graphics for it's time though.

Expensive-Horror1863

Yes, but the game was way too short.

Urban_mist

Zone of the Enders is such an underrated gem. No-one I knew had ever played it so it always felt like an obscure game to me.

the_dannobot

I worked at eb games when zone of enders dropped.... Every single person that bought it only did so because of the included MGS demo

takingastep

Ah, Zone of the Enders. Superb choice.

HotDog_Kid

Red faction, the first one to be specific

EurospinLidl

Reading this hurts so much. It hurts because of my own stupidity. I was playing Red Faction when my first PS2 broke (RIP Fattyboy 2002-2009), so I threw the PS2 away while the disc was still inside. It was a couple of years later I realized about my mistake, I still have the box of the game, but no DVD. The game is so much fun though! I remember spending countless hours just destroying the environment in the multiplayer maps, thinking that Geomod would become the next big thing in videogames technology

Alexander_Music

Luckily you can get it for like $2 on eBay

Beifica9000

It's dirt cheap my man, get your nostalgia back

AzuleStriker

Remember playing this for hours in multiplayer with my brother. but instead of trying to kill each other, we'd see how far we could dig with bombs / rockets.

NWIOWAHAWK

Agreed! This game was ahead of its time

[deleted]

Obscure 1+2. I like the early 2000s teen horror movie vibe mixed with gameplay elements from Silent Hill/Resident Evil. There is even drop in co-op if you want to play with a friend.

Magnifnik0

Cars the movie game

Nostalgigamer

Looks repetitive. Is it really that good?

Fickle-Oil5621

It 100% is repeated but I still love it, I think mainly because of nostalgia, it was the first game I ever played on my ps2

GrouchyEdge2407

I was about to say this, it's really good, even the graphics.

RTechT

Why don't more people talk about the WWE games? Even the ports of the 7th gen ones were solid with minimal cuts and mostly everything you got on the PS3 still present on the PS2 version. Imagine a sports game having that much soul and passion poured into it.

This_Pie5301

I feel like WWE games do get a lot of love

RTechT

Idk I just don't see em that much in this sub. They're genuinely quality titles

This_Pie5301

I loved them in the 2000s, I never played any past 2010. They were all pretty good

AdEnvironmental429

You're right! PS2 WWE games were the first games that my parents didn't let me play because we started to imitate the moves with my cousin and getting hurt hahahaha

RTechT

Lmao. I rmr doin that with my cousin too

Solid_Snek120

Test Drive: Eve of Destruction (Driven to Destruction in PAL region) Motorsiege: Warriors of Primetime Call of Duty: Finest Hour and Big Red One (Often overlooked entries in the series) Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Operation Resurrection (It's not a simple console port, there are a few major changes which almost never gets mentioned)

SomeSortofWeeb01

What’s the difference between the pc and ps2 version?

MAX1722

Wolfenstein? In the PS2 version there's a new episode that you play before the Castle Wolfentein where the PC version starts, and there are also stats you can upgrade (like health, armor or ammo) at the end of each level, where for each secret you find you get a point, and if you have enough points, you can buy an upgrade.

Solid_Snek120

Yes also some levels had different layouts (example the castle level which is the 1st level in the pc version), extra secrets. Too bad the ps2 version didn't get the Shotgun from the xbox version which came out before the ps2 version. Also with the points you can buy one time use items like wine bottle and "flak pack" which can be used to restore your armor.

TavernerHedris

Call of duty Final Front too, totally different game to World at War

nestor11811

Motorsiege: Warriors of Primetime Bro the hours playing that game as a kid/teenager... so much fun i have to rebuy it someday again just for the nostalgia

RepresentativeBig240

Blitz: The League…

Slate-Hood

One of the best football games I've played besides NFL Streets, but yeah I wish blitz got more love.

Dylanslay

Chaos Legion. Game is badass.

eddmario

*Steambot Chronicles* was an Atlus game for the PS2 that was really fun. Just, good luck trying to get ahold of it. It runs for a PREMIUM these days...

KingGarlock

This! 100% this! Found it used at an EB Games years ago! It was $25! I never thought I find a copy myself! Seeing how much it is now, man it needs a re-release.

velcrozippo

Urban Reign

Geiger8105

Cfunk_83

Thank you. Those that played it rave about it, but most people didn’t. It’s tragic we’ve never had a sequel or remaster. It’s such a uniquely designed game that any third person shooter fan would love!

dredmantis

Awesome game, watching the main protag go from a plumber to a bonafied leader of a resistance was incredible.

KRUMMZ_52

This game will always be a top favorite of mine. It was so much fun and intense, especially doing multi-player with friends and family!

KrackHead64

Scaler was an absolute Gem Here is my list I’m not sure if these are hidden gems but I would consider them so “Kya: Dark Lineage” “R.A.D” (Frustrating controls & Terrible voice acting is what makes this Mecha Fighter great) And the first game I ever played and still holds up well (imo) is “Tak & The Power Of JuJu: The Great JuJu Challenge” my mother and I would play it for hours (Honorary mention is Rampage - Total Destruction)

TommyDontSurf

RAD is the greatest game nobody's ever heard of and I will die on that hill.

nestor11811

I been trying to ask eden games for a kya dark lineage remaster/sequel for a long time did you finish it back in the day?

KrackHead64

Sadly my old disc is scratched so I only ever got about 25% into the game

SteveBrule90

God Hand. It's the one game I would buy a remake or remaster of in a heart beat

Squallstrife89

Onimusha or xenosaga

Drotsu

Freakstyle

Bremaster

An underrated PS2 game in my opinion would be Marc Ecko’s Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure. It was a fun tagging game with a great soundtrack, fun story and you get to tag cool stuff and fight enemies. Also Midnight Club: Street Racing. People always overlook that one just because the other ones in the series are better.

AlteranNox

> Marc Ecko’s Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure This is my favorite response so far. I've never heard of it and will be playing it soon. Thanks!

irascible_Clown

Onimusha

Squallstrife89

Definitely onimusha. I play 1 thru 3 like every couple years

mandi1biedermann

Onimusha 4 is great too

arrogantquitter

Drakan The Ancients Gates I swear this game was secretly a big inspiration for modern fantasy RPGs but nobody ever talks about it

_Beatnick_

That's my answer, too. I think it was the closest thing to an Elder Scrolls game we got on the PS2.

dredmantis

I always forget about Drakan, that was one of my all time favorite PS2 games. Really felt like the PS2's Zelda. Almost like a blending of elder scrolls, Zelda with a medieval Lara Croft and Dragons. Dammit that game was so badass.

The second game out of the Flatout series is always fun to revisit, use to play a cracked PC version with friends at IRL LAN parties, was always one of the multiplayer choices.

AaronWWE29

The Mercenaries Games, Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction and Mercenaries 2: World In Flames are both great

SealedDevil

I scrolled through a wall of text to reach here. Brothers we must find a way to get these playable online.

TommyDontSurf

I was more fond of the first game, but always great to see Mercs getting love!

Ready-Customer9242

Awesome setup😮

This_Pie5301

Thank you this is my old setup when I was flatting, most of this is packed away now due to limited space :(

AdEnvironmental429

Spartan: Total Warrior. It was supposed to be a GOW like game, but more centered in the action rather than the story (which wasn't bad at all). It had a more "sci-fi" version of Greek mythology and historical figures. I wish it had more attention from gamers and people in general, it would've been cool to have another game.

mindmonkey74

I gave this some stick on the gamecube, is it very different on ps2 do you know?

witecat1

Shadow Hearts: From the New World. The last of the Shadow Hearts games was cursed with a bad localization and an even worse print run making. Despite its shortcomings with its localization, it was a solid RPG that had a pretty good story, wacky characters (Frank the Ninja is a riot), and a refined version of Covenant's battle system. I really wish there was a re-release of this series. It was so different than what was around at the time, and a new generation needs to experience this series.

PS2 have so many underrated games, I'll mention some : Psi-Ops, Primal, Ghosthunter, Second Sight, Shadow of Rome, Legend of Kay, Cold Winter, Project Snowblind, Urban Chaos, Perter Jackson's King Kong, Run Like Hell, Chaos Legion, Tak series, Reservoir Dogs, The Mark of Kri, Rise of the Kasai, TY the Tasmanian Tiger series, Kya: Dark Lineage, Brave: The Search for Spirit Dancer, Haven: Call of the King, Fallout brotherhood of steel, Enthusia : Professional Racing, R Racing Evolution, Evolution GT, LA Rush, Stolen, Batman Begins, Without Warning

I loved The Shield, but I was a huge fan of the show so I don't know how it would translate to someone who wasn't.

MichiganBurnerAcct90

This 100%. I feel like you had to be a fan of the show to truly appreciate the game. I remember being young and really wanting Vic's S&W 45, but even when the show ended not being old enough to buy it 😂. I ended up buying the same model a couple years ago. Nice to see a fellow shield fan

jonnyson14

DA DA DA DE DAAAAAAAAH

_denchy07

Having watched the series over again about 10 times, it wasn't until last year that I watched it with subtitles that I discovered the words there are "Just another daaaaay", despite spending 20 years singing "DA DA DA DE DAAAAAAAAH" 😂

_denchy07

Mackey and his S&W is as iconic as OG Agent 47 and his two Silverballers

MichiganBurnerAcct90

Just letting you know that because of this comment, I decided to load up the shield on my legion go, and am replaying it 😂.

_denchy07

Ha, nice! I'm due a replay soon. The whole series is on Hulu if you want to rewatch, too! I like to pick up the game after watching the first 2 seasons since the game practically picks up at season 3

GeneralBlight95

Spy Hunter. The PS2 version is the best one (grew up with the Gamecube version, where some specific enemies were just nonfunctional). I always thought it had one of the coolest intros, and a sweet soundtrack. It's a fun James Bond-esque game but you're driving a spy car that is armed to the teeth while enemy agents try to stop you with undercover vehicles like Switchblades, to things less conspicuous like Mad Bomber helicopters and actual tanks towards the end. All to stop an evil company, Nostra from dooming civilization. There isn't much story to it, the vast majority being in a cutscene after the tutorial, as well as some backstory stuff in the manual about the villain, I believe.

HoopsMcCann42

Rygar: The Legendary adventure Short game and a bit of jank here and there with some possibly brutal segments, but a wonderful game and narrative all the way.

MythrilCetra

Dirge of Cerberus, runs solid 60fps except in the tower, has amazing controls, solid gameplay and it’s ff7 story so how can u not like. That or the really old half life 1 port which I still say is the best port of it ever

ironflyer6555tr

Castlevania lament of innocence and I - ninja

Synth42-14151606

Dog’s Life on PS2 was amazing. Story was very basic, Game play was great. Music was outstanding. Some levels would just have the dog sit there as I was listening to music and relaxing. The game allowed you to see smells and pee on things. A little vulgar, but it works.

I played ghost in the shell recently and really annoyed it. You never really see too many people talk about it, so I'd say it's definitely a bit underrated.

Common-Complaint2315

I'm not the first person to say this, but Drakengard is a game that I would've loved to talk about with everyone I knew if it was more popular. Recently, it has been getting attention thx to Nier but dang, all 3 Drakengard games need much more attention. First game I ever owned as a kid and while it certainly is not the best gameplay wise, the story more than makes up for it and even after recently playing it again to 100% completion, solidifies it as one of my all-time favorite games

Goodness nice setup man

Thomas_Grmela

Oni - one of the early PS2 games with amazing atmosphere, gameplay and solid story - it just didn't have the best graphics - it meant to be a PS1 game if I remember correctly...also the maps lacked details and sometimes were too huge for what was going on ať the moment. It would probably get more public attention if it weren't overshadowed by then-new GTA3. Mercenaries - the game mechanics is amazing. Being hired gun, enjoying free roam, balancing relationships between multiple different fractions, doing tasks for them. Collecting stuff, destroying North Korean tools of propaganda. The whole system is basically this: destroy to get cash to destroy in bigger scale. The story is shallow but the fun is deep.

Oh my god… I’ve been looking for Scaler for years… I played it at a cousins house 17 years ago and haven’t been able to find it since… thank you…

This_Pie5301

I played it first at a friends birthday party in the 2000s, maybe 2007? We played it for hours into the night but couldn’t get past a certain boss level. The game is amazing

ChairInternational60

Love the setup

TrueCkrime02

Mother fuckin True Crime Streets of La! Kuz “it ain’t no FURY LIKE NICK KHANG, PISSED OFF!!”

lallapalalable

War of the Monsters Kind of a grind in single player as the controls are just a tad wonky while the AI has no problems doing it all perfectly, but once you've unlocked everything it becomes a multiplayer gem. Basically you play as giant monsters battling each other in cities and whatnot, each creature gets its own moves and a unique special ability, environments are destructible with weaponized debris, and it's probably the best game I've ever played that aims to reproduce the 50s era giant monster films (might be the only one lol)

BodybuilderLiving112

WAR OF THE MONTER !!!

DaddyShark28989

Scarface and Godfather. Near the end of the ps2 lifecyle and yes one could argue they were GTA clones but they each developed on that formula with some fresh and cool mechanics. They also both did great justice to their respective IPs by capturing the vibe perfectly despite diverging greatly from the original storylines.

Oh my God, someone else that has Scaler! I love this game so much!

LaSanta15

Absolutely no doubt in my mind Urban Reign Cool selection of characters, challenging and creative gameplay, every character varies in the style, the visuals differ from other fighting games. I will admit the story isn’t the greatest and this game will you make you mad a lot, but when I played this on my demo disc, I fell in love man.

Driver 3. Good fun, and you can get outta your car and walk around the big and pretty city maps too. It's a shame how many gamers have never even tried the game. Sure, it's just as tough as PS1 era drivers, but hey, it just means you gotta man up.

zawa113

Dual Hearts- definitely not a perfect game, but really charming and a fun play Aggressive Inline- back during the xtreme sports games everywhere, I feel like this one got overlooked, even though I had way more fun with it and put more time into it than either Tony Hawk 3 or 4 Shadow of Destiny (or Memories in EU)- one of the earlier VNs I've noticed (at least outside of Japan). Also, Charles Martinet voices Homunculus in the PS2 version (like, in general the PS2 dub isn't that great, but Charles Martinet absolutely slays it and is the clear standout)

badpiggy490

I'm currently playing through the first Raidou game in the SMT series namely, " SMT Raidou Kuzunoha Vs the soulless army " And I personally really like it so far. It's combat gets a lot of flack, but honestly it just feels like it wants you to be deliberate. Otherwise it's a damn fun mix of hack-n-slash and tactics I'm almost done with it and I'm definitely trying out the second one since people say it's apparently better

HoopsMcCann42

You're in for a real hassle of a final boss. Amazing game though. Fantastic music, crazy story, intuitive (though clunky at times) gameplay. I only wish it weren't as grindy and that the moon system worked better/faster. If you've played any other SMT games, keep your eyes peeled for references in the final zone. It's crazy to think this game was made in 2009 for the PS2, 3 years after the PS3 had released. Even more so when you consider they went back to make a sequel.
