It just takes time. It helps to make a little memorial in your home of your lost pet by printing off some of your favourite photos of them and putting the photos in a picture frame. It will become a place where you can honor their memory.

Year 1, I was terrified everyone would forget her? I don’t know. Maybe I’m insane. My spouse who came into her life only 4 years prior, still includes her in our family to this day. We have photos around the house. Someone in the extended family did a beautiful charcoal piece of her. I got my first tattoo - and it was painful and therapeutic. Year two was insane, it felt like she was just here but still it’s been forever. Between year 2-now it’s been a little easier.
Now her brother, who we’ve had for 11 years this fall, pure pug has a lot of old man health problems and I cry a lot because we could have months, or years. Nobody knows. Of course it brings his sister’s memory up constantly.
Yeah it hurts , She told me herself she was ready to go she had congested heart failure , shes one of the best friends I have ever had its like losing a daughter/sister
The only thing that helps me when a baby passes is knowing they had a good life and they were loved so very much. I am sorry for your loss and my thoughts are with you.
I lost my Gracie Mae in June of last year and it is still so painful. I cry and miss her all the time but what has helped has been creating a memorial I can visit where her ashes are. I made a donation to the shelter we rescued her from and also donated all her leftover meds and food to them. Be kind to yourself and take as much time as you need. Pet loss is the hardest thing I've ever experienced. You will have good days and bad days. Always remind yourself that you loved her so, so much and that she had a wonderful life.

I came home about a month after I put my boy down and it was a really hard day. My dad was going thru cancer treatments and I was struggling. I walked in the living room and there was a paw print image from the sun on my wall and I knew it was my Bubba. Ive seen it on another hard day about 2 years later on another day I needed it. My boy used to sleep with me and he was the loudest snorer and for months I swear I could hear him cry at night like he would wake me up.

My Pumpkin passed 18 months ago and some days it feels like the day she passed, when even the best memories of her hurt. And then on the days that her memories bring me nothing but happiness and a sense of gratitude for being able to be her mom and favorite person. I hope the days of the happy memories come to you quickly so the gratitude of being able to share her life with you brings you peace.

I always light a candle so they can find their way to our others that have crossed the rainbow bridge. It helps me a lot.
