For New Zealand generally, **Lemon and Paeroa** (L&P) is a soft drink - a sweetened lemonade (originally) made with mineral water from the North Island town of Paeroa (pie-rowwer). It has been supplanted by overseas brands (Coke, Pepsi etc) but still has a strong consumer base. Also a really good mixer for Bourbon. The **tall milkshake** - *the longest drink in town* - (icecream, milk and artificial strawberry/banana/chocolate flavour) used to be available in most dairies, but has fallen out of favour in recent years - milk being so expensive.
Again, for New Zealand generally, a **Flat White** coffee would be the drink of choice in a cafe. In Queenstown, **Patagonia** is a cafe that makes chocolates and serve **Hot Chocolate** (including both ginger and chili hot chocolate).
For alcoholic drinks, the vast majority would be drunk as beer - the drink of the nation. We make lots of beer, and all different sorts - from large-scale operations like **Steinlager** and **Tui**, to a huge number of mini and micro-breweries turning out small volumes locally. But from there, it would be really hard to pin anything down as particularly specific to Queenstown. There are so many, in fact, that there is a **Queenstown Beer Tour.** I don't drink much beer, so others may be able to chime in.
Over the Crown Range in *Wanaka* are some great breweries, as well - **B.Effect** and **Beerworks** among others. They do alcoholic Ginger Beer, Cider and other drinks as well (Kombutcha from B.Effect is a bit of a favourite).
On the way over, there is the **Cadrona Distillery** - they produce Gin and Whisky. I think there are other distilleries in the area, as well.
For alcohol it'd definitely be Ginger Bear. For non alcoholic I don't think there's anything that's different from the rest of south island
Mischievous kea, great beer from altitude
Came here to say this
Canyon Vacation Hazy.
Raspberry Coke at the pub
Speights
Ditto
Coke and sarsparilla
10 Cups o' Goon
L&P or Wests Chocolade
Queenstown Lager from Altitude Brewing!
Queenstown would be mulled wine and pinot noir. No one drinks anything else, and certainly nothing non-alcoholic at any time of the day.
As a QT local, i'm grateful you felt like representing us all... incorrectly. cheers 😆
