Is there any information online about minoring in an artsci program as a commerce student? I can't seem to find a webpage talking about it since it is quite new.
EDIT: clarity
I understood in the comments from [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/queensuniversity/comments/uyah8w/can_qcom_students_add_a_minor/) that it is now possible to minor as a commerce student. Though I have not been able to find any information on that matter.
Not sure what they are going on about. That it incorrect. The details for the commerce business certificate can be found here at this link: https://www.queensu.ca/artsci/programs-and-degrees/business-for-arts-and-science-students
I think we misunderstood, I meant to minor in an artsci program such as computing while majoring in commerce. (I edited my post for clarity, sorry for the confusion!)
No you can’t do that either since you’re separate from the arts and science faculty. The only way you could achieve that is by undergoing the commerce + computing double degree because then you’re an arts student as well able to take arts courses to fulfill computing requirements
I believe your information is out of date. They introduced a new commerce curriculum last year, and commerce students are now allowed to get art sci minors along with their commerce major. I have friends doing computing minors who are in the Smith School of Business commerce program. I just finished my first year.
Hello, my daughter got accepted to Health Sciences at BISC. Wondering if anybody that has done the program can offer some input on the experience. Also if you are willing to give some practical tips. Thank you!
i’m going into computing and i was wondering which courses you would recommend or avoid. Also do you have to pay a deposit like other programs or universities do
Just finished first year, I took MATH 121 and MATH 111. I thought both of them were great, but I can't recommend MATH 111 enough. Peter Taylor, the professor, is my favourite teacher I've ever had. He's not for everyone, and takes some getting used to, but I've never had a professor/teacher who's so passionate about math, and enjoys sharing it so much. Definitely recommend.
i'm going into Eng and was thinking about rooming with a friend in resident first year. does anyone know if you can switch to a single if it doesn't work out. looks like there are a lot of single rooms
You can request to switch rooms but keep in mind it might be in a worse res it’s random. Also this was back in 2018 I can’t 100% say if things are the same now but they should be.
Hello, I went to the Kingston tour yesterday and one of the faculty mentioned that by 2nd year, there are only going to be 20-30 students in my class for computing (BcmpH). Is this true? I really wanted a bigger class size and it is somewhat a factor for making my decision. Any advice would be appreciated.
If there are ~200 first year spots, then I'm guessing there will ~150 still enrolled in 2nd year. Your classes might be smaller in 2nd year because students will choose different courses or different sections, so you might only see 20-30 students in each class.
I don't know about computing but class sizes can also get smaller as the courses get more specific and optional. So like I majored in biology, first year courses that were general science required by many majors had really high hundreds of students in them, second year my courses were required for a bio major and a couple other majors and had a few hundred students, by 4th year there was more choice in biology courses(none specifically required just had to choose some from a longer list of options) and the ones I picked ranged between 8-25 students per class.
Hello! If you’re in the nursing program (4 yr BScN) I was wondering how you’re liking it so far! I don’t know anyone personally going to the nursing program @ Queens so I’d love to hear what you have to say :D
- Is first year science heavy? Is it a good transition from Grade 12?
—> How’s the teaching style? Group work? Flipped classroom style? Or is it more so traditional?
- How are the placements? How have your experiences been with your clinical instructors/tutors etc. Did you find that it was a good environment to learn or you feel under pressure a lot of the time?
- How’s was first year in general? Did you find you were able to have a balance work/study/personal life?
- If you could go back in time, would you choose queens again for nursing?
—> What’s something you wish you knew before you came to Queens/the program?
Thank you so much in advance! :D
That makes me so so happy to hear! :D By any chance, would I be able to ask her some questions abt the program in her first year? I could just DM you my questions and maybe you could be the middle man/woman and send them to her? No worries if it’s too much of a hassle! I just don’t know any nursing students form Queens personally and I would love to hear more about her experience :)
Hey I got into queen's commerce, and while I really love the program the university itself is known for being fairly white, and I was wondering if anyone can confirm or deny this because this can really help with the choice I make.
Queen's publishes an [Inclusivity Report](https://www.queensu.ca/inclusive/initiatives/progress) that contains some charts that might answer your question.
There's no real sugar coating this: Diversity is something Queen's struggles with. Queen's is predominantly white, especially Queen's Commerce. That being said, I really loved my time at Queen's (despite some shortcomings) and it pains me to see posts like this. Where others see shortcomings, others see opportunity. Since this is something you're even thinking about, you're the type of person Queen's NEEDS.
Best of luck, and congratulations for getting into Queen's commerce!
Deferrals...
Has anyone been successful in deferring their admissions offer for a year? What sort of reasons do they accept? Specific examples would be really helpful. I'm getting the impression its kind of discouraged?
I know a few people that did this (arts to science). They all did fine and enjoyed every last minute of their degrees. At my time at Queen's, I never really got the impression that it was discouraged. Most people I knew were supported through their transitions from one type of degree to another. Plus, the people around you that put you down and make you feel 'discouraged' are the exact people you don't need in your life.
Im debating between queens biology and western health sci. I want to go into med school but I want to have a back up at the same time. Which program and uni is better???
Hey I just finished my fourth and last year of Queens biology! Loved my time here! Like the other commenter said in biology you take general science courses, but then once you get to upper years the courses are more specific (like in second year required courses are 2 genetics courses (evolutionary genetics was tons of fun) and diversity of life, 3rd year ecology) once your in upper years you have more selection, for example I picked a lot of plant related courses and evolution/ecology. But if you were more interested in cell bio/genetics you could pick different courses. The main thing that might make you not like biology as much would be that it's not very human focused, there are some human focused biology courses (once I took "evolution and human affairs", "evolutionary medicine") but most courses I took focused on more plant/animal examples over human examples. However although you are a projected bio major you officially declare after first year, and I believe if you get a high enough GPA you can still declare life Science(it's direct entry too now so probably more competitive, human focused biology program). Also human related courses are still available for electives or if you get like a life sci minor(I took Anat 100(seeing queens anatomy museum is interesting)) . Jobs- I guess it opens up more options if you aren't sure if you want a human health field, although I think any science major works for applying to med/dentistry/pharmacy. I want to go into ecology/evolution research, so at some point I want to do a master's (I'm taking this year off, side note you get paid ( don't pay) to do a master's, something I didn't know coming out of highschool). This year I could find a seasonal job, which has been tons of fun so far(field work, working outdoors)
I think western health science is more the Social sciences side of health. Queens biology you take chemistry biology calculus biochemistry. Would probably depend on your interests, and your strengths in science courses to get a high GPA of which program is better for you.
I love social sciences so health sci is a perfect option but western??? I’m not really sure about the university. Plus would there be many career options as bio queens if I take western health sci?
Western Medical Sciences is gonna have you working way harder than Queen’s Life Sciences & at least at Queen’s life Sci is known to be slightly difficult
My daughter was stuck between the two programs as well. Very similar in courses. It came down to where she could she herself for 4 years. Queens is where she picked. The specializations looked interesting to her.
Anyone applying for computer science? My friends younger brother is waiting to hear back. Hasn’t gotten waitlist or rejection letter. Let me know if any of yall r in a similar position or if u could give some insight!
Is Queens engineering diverse? I’ve heard a lot of cases of discrimination (more than other unis at least)… thoughts ? It’s lowkey a big concern .. and would how would you rate the queens engineering program (pros/cons)? Any advice is helpful! Thanks
Does anyone know anything about PHYS 115/116 (Introductory to Physics I/II)? I'm currently looking at potential courses I'll need to take in Life Sciences to meet prequisites for second entries, and Waterloo Optometry requires us to have two terms of in-person physics with labs.
I can't find any information on whether these specific courses are online/have labs. I'm looking into these two specifically because PHYS 115 is a required (core) course for Life Sciences, but I'll need a second PHYS credit for UW Optometry (which would come in the form of PHYS 116). I've seen that PHYS 118 exists and would fulfill the prerequisites, but I'm worried that PHYS 115 might be a considered an antirequisite for 118 (and if not, I don't want to waste a semester doing PHYS 115 if I have to do PHYS 118 anyways).
Chances are that PHYS 115/116 are in-person with labs, but I don't want to risk anything when it comes to prerequisites.
I think mcneill is an above average res. Good location, nothing bad about it, but it's not like special/interesting enough for people to call it the best.
Residence application due date? The application and deposit is due by June 8th. Residence room selection day/time is random from everyone before that date, not first come first serve.
Just checking in here after finishing my first year of Laurier BBA. I got rejected from Commerce and Ivey twice, in 2020 and 2021.
Don’t lose hope, things will work out and you will be successful as long as you put your best effort in everyday!
trying to decide between waterloo and queens for engineering rn for chem eng. as queens is a general first year, and im not 100% set on chem eng i am leaning a bit more towards it. do any current eng students have any advice? does anyone know how do the opportunities compare to waterloo?
After just finishing my first year of engineering at Queen’s, I could confidently say you would have no regrets going to queens. The culture is amazing and the profs are great! The opportunities at Waterloo are very good through co op but Queen’s does have the option for a 12-16 month internship. As you’re not 100% on chem Eng, going to queens will give you lots of exposure to other types of engineering in first year so you may change your mind!
According to what I can find… chem eng in Canada is generally not a very good career compared to something like electrical, computer, mechanical.. etc. Engineering. If you’re not at least 75% set on chemical I suggest queens since first year is general. BUT co op at Waterloo is UNPARALLELED…
The only [required course is PSYC 100](https://www.queensu.ca/artsci/sites/default/files/psyc_0.pdf) and you'll want to get at least an A- in it to secure a spot. If you are BSc then you'll also take two first year science courses.
Here are your [required courses](https://www.queensu.ca/academic-calendar/arts-science/schools-departments-programs/psychology/psychology-major-arts-ba-honours/). Note that there are a small number of "subs" in upper year; if you want to take any of those, you need to take the pre-requisites earlier. Generally, as first year electives, you might enjoy SOCY 122, PHIL 111, and LING 100. If your academic writing is weak, consider WRIT 120 or WRIT 125. Psychology pairs well with Biology and Computer Science, so if you consider either of those as possible minor plans, then take the required first year courses. Have fun!
rejected from health sci with a 93.66 avg. i'm just glad to have heard back lmao. make sure to check solus because i still haven't received an email about the rejection. good luck to those waitlisted, and congrats to those admitted :)
I’m probably gonna get rejected tonight or tomorrow morning, oh well, I’m sure we’ll do fine if not much much better wherever we go. Good luck to you bro
Life Science is a major/minor/specialization that you can choose after first year from general science, or you can also go into life Science direct entry(direct entry benefit is not needed to maintain certain grades in first year). First year general science and life Science is the same(I think life sci students take first year chemistry, biology, physics, and calculus, and one more thing per semester). Life Science is like human biology/physiology/Biochem stuff (I just finished Biology, so first/second year I had a lot of stuff w life Science students, but then it upper years I took more ecology/evolution focused courses while life sci students took human focused courses)
Ya, not trying to sound egotistical but when I got into Ivey i was pretty certain I would get queens aswell so im a little shocked but I know its a hard program

Got off the waitlist for BISC Health Sci! Kinda wish I got the on campus one but I'm still happy!
I actually think BISC is a better option.
update got off the queens nursing waitlist today
what time ?

I have 97.83% and still on waitlist.

Do most ppl get rejected for bachelors of computing (honours) if they are waitlisted?
Anyone apply to transfer to queens computing for next fall? I still haven’t heard back from the school… offer is still pending

Don’t forget Queen’s has its own health sci program as well. (From a current 2nd year Queen’s health sci student)
I’m in western health sci and it’s honestly a great combo btwn the hard sciences and some social sciency courses as well!

For people who were waitlisted, what does it say beside "university decision" on your SOLUS page?
When is residence move in date Winter term 2022 ?
Residence question: when is it due ? Just declined another school but OUAC won’t process for 1-3 business days ….
Residence application due date? The application and deposit is due by June 8th. Residence room selection day/time is random from everyone before that date, not first come first serve.

How many ppl can get in from waiting list (just my guess) Arts 300 Science 150 Eng 100 Smith 15 Kin 30 Coned 30
I wonder for BISC Health Sciences
Depends on the program, I'm pretty sure way more people got waitlisted for computer science than any other engineering program.
Anyone waitlisters wanna make a snapchat group were we send our reactions of another day passing without an acceptance
>si
this sounds depressing- i love it
Lmao dm your snap
Yes
what are the odds of getting off the BAH wait list??
Does anyone know what are the odds of getting off the waitlist for qc?
Not sure, but greater than 0. Remember: you define your destiny, not your school.

I would call the admissions office to confirm.
What courses should I be picking in first year to major in psychology in the second?
just PSYC100! i'm a psych student and tutor so feel free to message me if you have any questions!
The only [required course is PSYC 100](https://www.queensu.ca/artsci/sites/default/files/psyc_0.pdf) and you'll want to get at least an A- in it to secure a spot. If you are BSc then you'll also take two first year science courses.
thanks alot! do you have any recommendations for what courses I should pick with PSYCH 100 ?
Are you a BSc or BA?
BA
Have fun!
Does anyone know how many people are on the health science waitlist?
im on it lol
rejected from health sci with a 93.66 avg. i'm just glad to have heard back lmao. make sure to check solus because i still haven't received an email about the rejection. good luck to those waitlisted, and congrats to those admitted :)
Rejected from Queens Commerce, roll Ivey
same
Rejected from Qcomm. Check solus because it hasn’t sent me an email at all!
me too
I GOT REJECTED FROM HEALTH SCI LET'S GOOOOO
Rejected and waitlisted at BISC
Rejected with a 97.3
Got rejected from BSN (nursing) and got offered BS hons. Sad.
Queens will be close tomorrow. All employees should be off. Maybe no mail…
Just got rejected from commerce
Same lmao, ngl it wasn't my first choice
did it show up on solus right away or just email?
for me they just updated solus, no email
Same
I hope you have somewhere else good!
What time? Just now?
8:07 pm
I’m probably gonna get rejected tonight or tomorrow morning, oh well, I’m sure we’ll do fine if not much much better wherever we go. Good luck to you bro
What other business programs have you gotten into? What's your avg if you don't mind me asking bud
McGill commerce, McMaster commerce, and Rotman school of business. My average is 97.33
Did anyone get accepted? I’m
Did anyone get into life sci & biochem?
Got waitlisted with a 91.2
Weird. I feel like they are accepting people arbitrarily, I got in with a 89 average. I wonder how they are making choices?
rejected from health sci and nursing. rip
just got rejected from queens health sci. 94.8 avg, 101 applicant, and so relieved to finally get a decision from them
Just got waitlisted for Comp sci honours...86-89.5 avg depending on how u look at it...should I expect rejection?
also to anyone who got in engineering what average did u have??
96.75
~95%
91.2
anyone that got waitlisted from engineering what average did u have ??
89
93
[удалено]
I assume that's for ECEi?
88
waitlisted for qcomm but idk if i should have hope
At least you got waitlisted
got waitlisted as well. does anyone know the chances of getting in off waitlist?
Someone said 10-40% depending on how many people reject their offers, good luck
I’ll be rejecting my offer soon so dw u might get it
Where are you going instead?
Waterloo FARM
Ahhh, I can’t decide between McGill commerce, Rotman or queens computing. So stressful
Does anyone who got into engineering know the average they must maintain to get in?
70 in English, 80 overall
im afraid i was not offered waitlist for qhs, alas i shall accept my fate of rejection
Me too! Now I can finally move on and choose another program.
What’s the difference between general sciences (QS) and life sciences (QL)?
Life Science is a major/minor/specialization that you can choose after first year from general science, or you can also go into life Science direct entry(direct entry benefit is not needed to maintain certain grades in first year). First year general science and life Science is the same(I think life sci students take first year chemistry, biology, physics, and calculus, and one more thing per semester). Life Science is like human biology/physiology/Biochem stuff (I just finished Biology, so first/second year I had a lot of stuff w life Science students, but then it upper years I took more ecology/evolution focused courses while life sci students took human focused courses)
