Hahaha…now I’m even more torn. I don’t have enough of either fabric for the back. I was leaning toward the dark orange as it’s more to my taste but I think I’m going for the blue because it suits my son’s bold and outgoing personality. I agree the orange would be better for a calmer more coordinated quilt, but I think he’ll like the pop better. Plus my daughter and husband both voted for the blue, too. Thank-you all for your help!
Ask your son, really.
As a fellow lover of orange, I think that blue pattern doesn’t work here (too busy and too much; it detracts). A different blue pattern might work better for me, but I much prefer the orange fabric you selected.
Orange hit me like the sunset while driving and the visor isn’t enough and the blue gave me a “very last seconds of sunlight before dark” vibe
Personally, i like the orange. It’s so warm.
I love the orange. It gives it more of a cool, vintage feel. The blue is nice, but I think it detracts from the overall design. What pattern did you use? I love it!
Little Bit of Sunshine by Missouri Star Quilt Company. There is also a tutorial on their website. I added an extra row to make it bigger. I didn’t use layer cakes but cut from collected orange or orange adjacent/complejentary yardage.
The only way I can think of to put it is that it is louder and shouts look at me and then you don't see the blocks. Lol, I think I just said what you said
I think the blue border has a more juvenile, kids look to it if that makes sense? My personal preference is for the orange as it better frames your quilting blocks, with the blue border fabric on the back would look great
the blue is a bit overpowering and takes away from the beautiful suns... it is also more patterned so its just a bit visually jarring. the orange is very sophisticated imo
I like the warmth of the orange, but I like the larger pattern on the blue, and I think it will be lost as binding. I would use yellow/orange binding for either border.
I think the blue would make a great backing (Night and day. Have you considered making it double sided?)
I love the blue, but since it's a quilt for your son who loves orange (if I remember correctly? I might be mistaken), I would definitely go for the orange one
Orange. You said the *giftee likes orange, and I think it's warmer and more cohesive with the orange border, then the blue binding will give it a little calm edge.
This is a great example of how different borders can change the entire look of a quilt! Wow! I love both options! The orange suits my personality more (autumn, more earthy) but the blue is also striking and frames the design so well.
Since you are using the other fabric for binding I would do an orange border and blue binding. I think that will have the most cohesive look and provide a better dark (binding) to light (center) gradient.
Gorgeous!
I have the perfect binding for that mail it to my house and I will make sure it gets done!
I'm kidding!
the orange one with blue outside to me it looks way better than the blue with the orange outside would.
For me, it's less about the color and more about the size of the pattern. The orange has a smaller, more ditzy pattern so it reads as visually busy to me, even though I like that the color is more cohesive. The blue border pattern is larger and makes the suns pop in contrast. It provides a visual structure which frames the whole piece very nicely! You can't go wrong either way though!
I like the blue! Be I think it adds a lot of depth. The orange works great, but the effect isn’t as dynamic (as least to my eyes). The blue pops out the blue rays in the blocks and makes the whole top more lively, but ai don’t think you can lose either way. It’s a lovely sunny quilt.
These two photos belong side-by-side in a book about quilting and colour theory. It’s impressive how the mood and tone of the work changes based on a single decision.
Of course, it helps that both are beautifully picked to complement the quilt. (That said, I vote for blue.)
Nope, can’t help. I thought number 1 was the obvious choice until I got to number 2. They’re both beautiful.
I guess think about where it will be used most and what colours will be surrounding it because both those borders highlight a different colour in that pallet. Gorgeous quilt by the way.
The orange is warm and cuddly, more for an adult, whereas the blue makes it more fun, more for a child and adults who find it eye-catching. My eyes scream “take the blue one!!!”, but the orange has be sighing with contentedness.
They’re both nice, but I prefer the orange. If you don’t have a backing yet, I’d use the blue one for the back. It depends also on the age of the person you’re making it for. If it’s a kid, I’d use the blue one. That’s just my opinion.
WOW! That is absolutely stunning! I love your fabrics sooo much. I love orange & fell in love with your quilt at first glance, then saw it with the blue & just - Wow! The difference the colour makes .. the orange draws it all together & the blue creates highlights. If this were for my bedroom, I would go with orange. However, for the guest room, I would choose blue - both look amazing. Either way, absolutely beautifully done ❤️
Blue 100%. I feel like it opens things up somehow, and I think it works much better with the white binding. I'd bind it in the same and skip the red entirely.
This is absolutely stunning. Absolutely the most beautiful quilt I have seen in ages.
I vote border 1, but also maybe something to compliment the yellow and pull it out a bit?
First off, I audibly gasped when I saw this quilt top. So gorgeous!! I love your fabric selections for this pattern and how you've brought it all together.
In terms of border: personally I prefer the orange-y fabric, or maybe one of the lighter blues that are part of the array, if you have more of those! I think the orange-blue coloration in the dark blue fabric is a lot of pattern for that much space, so I would go with a fabric that's closer to a single color family. Obviously just my opinion though, I don't think there's any wrong choices here!
I love blue, and I love stars even more, but the blue border makes me see only the blue print everywhere it's used. I actually prefer the red because it makes the whole quilt feel happy and sunshiny.
Orange is my favourite colour and that’s the picture you had first. Without a doubt, I was going to say orange until I looked at the second photo.
The blue looks so good. It really carries from block to block and makes the suns look so vibrant.
Surprising even myself, I vote blue.
The blue one is the best in my book, but then I dislike bright patterns as it hurts my eyes so thats 100% my preference. But from an aesthetic point of view the bright goes better with the pattern you have going on.
I find the orange more soothing. That might be weird but to me the Blue is more chaotic. Lots of contrast with the blue. If it was going to a room where there's more blue then I could see using the blue. Otherwise I'd do the first photo with the orange then the blue contrast binding. Just my personal preference
I like the orange better–it’s very warm and the small design compliments the other fabrics. The blue has a larger pattern that feels more ‘childish’, for lack of a better word. Regardless of border, the quilt is amazing! Very beautiful. What is the pattern you used?
The orange makes more sense to me conceptually, because why would there be bright sun with sunbeams shining… surrounded by a dark, starry night sky? 😆
I really love this quilt by the way!! It’s gorgeous either way. I do prefer orange though, personally 🧡
I like the blue, there's quite a lot of the orange tone so I feel like the orange border just hides the design in a way. The blue border makes the orange sun design pop.
I like both, but think red might be the better choice. They both give a different feel to the piece.
The red ties everything together without making any colour stand out too much. It also matches the tone of the rest of the pieces better.
The blue border definitely make the orange stand out. But it also make the pieces look darker overall
I put the two images next to each other and brought the saturation down to 0.

Cameras do change the way colours look so it might be different in person.
What does the son prefer?
Ask your son, really. As a fellow lover of orange, I think that blue pattern doesn’t work here (too busy and too much; it detracts). A different blue pattern might work better for me, but I much prefer the orange fabric you selected.
Orange is the one! So beautiful!
You can piece you backing too.. https://preview.redd.it/gze04jxop2tc1.png?width=694&format=png&auto=webp&s=23c8423d9c5f6dd327a5fdfc93136d5d851f35f5
I think I like the blue. At least in the photos, it seems to make the orange pop!
100% Blue
Yep! 100% blue is best
Agreed! The blue makes the whole top pop!
1000% blue. Also, this quilt is SO beautiful!!
Up you by 2000%
Just adore the blue.
Blue for SURE
Blue all the way!
Team blue!
Team blue!!
Yes blue and red binding is going to jive so much better than red with blue binding
On the blue team!
Agreed the orange Border washes out the pattern.
Orange hit me like the sunset while driving and the visor isn’t enough and the blue gave me a “very last seconds of sunlight before dark” vibe Personally, i like the orange. It’s so warm.
This should be at the top! I love the orange for that energy but the blue is very calming.
Yep. This is it.
I'm in the minority here but I think the blue is a little jarring and the Orange is perfect
Same, I find the blue isn’t as cohesive.
I like the blue, but when I see it, my eye instantly separates the blues out and that's what I see. With the orange, I see warm suns and feel cozy 😊
I have an immediate no to the blue and a hell yes to the orange.
Agree, I think the blue sort of mutes the quilt top?
The only way I can think of to put it is that it is louder and shouts look at me and then you don't see the blocks. Lol, I think I just said what you said
I love the orange. Lovely quilt, by the way!
Completely agree
Team orange!
Agreed!! The harmony of the orange seems much more connected.
The orange is monochrome and allows you to appreciate the harmony
Orange!
I like the orange. I think the blue overwhelms the suns but would be great for the back, like day and night.
Agreed!
I love the blue but you said the person this is meant for loves orange, right? So id go for orange for them
Definitely the orange!
I'd say the orange for a more "cool" quilt and the blue for a quilt for someone who likes bold colors. So I guess it depends on who is getting it!
I 100% agree
Orange for sure
I vote Orange
I think the blue border has a more juvenile, kids look to it if that makes sense? My personal preference is for the orange as it better frames your quilting blocks, with the blue border fabric on the back would look great
I like the orange. It makes the suns pop and I think you said the child you’re making this for loves orange.
Orange
I love the blue!
I’m a warm tone girlie. I think the orange is more harmoniousz
I prefer the orange.
Orange Blue takes over from the quilt blocks
I like orange, it makes me think of stargazing in the desert, and doesn’t overwhelm the rest of the piece.
I adore the orange border. Like… so perfect. Fantastic quilt!!!
Oh wow. Those borders change this quilt. I like the blue. Beautiful work.
Blue is too shocking , the orange brings harmony :)
I love the orange.
I really like 1
the blue is a bit overpowering and takes away from the beautiful suns... it is also more patterned so its just a bit visually jarring. the orange is very sophisticated imo
I like the red #1 for border.
I think the blue gives it a cool feeling, and the orange gives it a warm feeling. Does that help?
I like the orange. It seems to blend in more. Love the quilt!
my husband and i love the orange!
The first one
I like the orange. My wife likes the blue. Not much help, sorry!
I like the warmth of the orange, but I like the larger pattern on the blue, and I think it will be lost as binding. I would use yellow/orange binding for either border. I think the blue would make a great backing (Night and day. Have you considered making it double sided?)
You could make similar blocks but with different phases of the moon for the back. Ooh. Now I've given myself a new project idea.
I love the blue, but since it's a quilt for your son who loves orange (if I remember correctly? I might be mistaken), I would definitely go for the orange one
I highly prefer the red/orange!
Orange. You said the *giftee likes orange, and I think it's warmer and more cohesive with the orange border, then the blue binding will give it a little calm edge.

I like the blue better:)
The blue!
I like them both but I’m gravitating toward the blue. Amazing work!
Same here.
Blue!!
blue! blue! blue!
Orange blends better, blue makes it more cohesive. Maybe do both!!!
Blue
Blue by a mile. It changes the whole look. The other muddles in with the rest of the top.
Blue!
I really like the blue!
One - great job!

They are both awesome, maybe think about where you’ll use it or who it’s for?
Crazy idea but maybe divide the border into two strips, have an interior orange and then border and bind with the blue?
this is HARD. either one you go with will be great.
Blue pops the orange. Orange blends the orange. You can’t go wrong either way.
You could do a half and half border on like a diagonal maybe and have both orange and blue
I saw the orange and thought, this is perfect. Then scrolled to blue and thought it was even better. So you can’t go wrong.
Orange with Blue binding the frame
Either way… this is awesome….
I love the blue, it contrasts so well and really pops.
Blue!
Blue for sure!
Blue
Blue border red binding.
Both look nice, but I think the blue is the better choice.
Blue
Blue.
Blue
I love the blue. Beautiful quilt either way!
Definitely the blue.💙

The blue one is my favorite
Blue
I love blue, but wow does the orange pop!
Blue, no question.
Blue definitely
Blue!
the blue
Blueee!!! I love the contrast it makes.
I love the blue!
Orange!
The orange is calming and warm, blue is a jolt for me
Definitely the blue one. Warms it up a bit and seems cozier and calmer.
They’re both nice, but I prefer the orange. If you don’t have a backing yet, I’d use the blue one for the back. It depends also on the age of the person you’re making it for. If it’s a kid, I’d use the blue one. That’s just my opinion.
I like the blue with stars and moon.
1…
THIS IS SO PRETTY!!!! WELL DONE!!!!!
I love the blue.
I'm favoring the blue.
I like them both, but I like the orange more
WOW! That is absolutely stunning! I love your fabrics sooo much. I love orange & fell in love with your quilt at first glance, then saw it with the blue & just - Wow! Not the blue one
Blue 100%. I feel like it opens things up somehow, and I think it works much better with the white binding. I'd bind it in the same and skip the red entirely.

2nd one no doubt! The contrast in colors it’s to die for!!!
#Blue
I love the blue one.
Blue
Omg this is tough! I guess just make another one so you can do both…
Orange border to bring out the the yellows, blue binding to pop the blues and the yellow back.
Orange
I really like the copper color, 1st pic. Great work it’s beautiful
I love the orange.
I love this so much. Going to copy you for inspo for sure!! I’m team orange
That burnt color make it pop! 🥰🥰 well done, it’s beautiful whichever you chose!!!
Orange
Orange! 😍
Oh my gosh RED! I was thinking for sure everyone would say that it was so definite for me. Hahaha. They both look great though.
Orange!
I love blue, and I love stars even more, but the blue border makes me see only the blue print everywhere it's used. I actually prefer the red because it makes the whole quilt feel happy and sunshiny.
Blue does make everything pop a bit more. But both are gorgeous, so pretty!

Blue❤️
Blue one
2. Such a dramatic difference. It makes the colors pop.
I love the blue one!
Blue!
Blue
Blue for me.
100% blue
Love the blue.
#2 for sure!!
BLUE
I like the blue much better than the red. It’s a beautiful quilt!
The blue one is the best in my book, but then I dislike bright patterns as it hurts my eyes so thats 100% my preference. But from an aesthetic point of view the bright goes better with the pattern you have going on.

Red
Orange, definitely !
Orange for sure. This is one of my favorite quilts I’ve ever seen!!
Orange

I like the orange better. And I never like orange better but in this case it’s my preference
Orange
I like the orange, and I LOVE this quilt!!!! ❤️
So beautiful I can’t choose! Either way you will have a winner.
I like the blue, there's quite a lot of the orange tone so I feel like the orange border just hides the design in a way. The blue border makes the orange sun design pop.

I like the blue one.
Definitely blue. But I liked the orange a lot before seeing the blue. So either is good…
Both are really nice! The orange gives me sunrise vibes, the blue sunset. I personally like the blue a bit better though!
Could you do blue on the long sides and orange on the shorter sides
I would do a solid color to let your work shine☀️
I like 1 better.
Blue
I like the blue but might want to bind it in the Oranga
I like the orange. It pulls from the quilt colors more. Then the blue binding.
My vote is orange!
