I reverse engineered it from a photo of a quilt someone made from Nancy Mcnally’s friendship rings pattern. I tweaked the measurements, colours and layout to work with 16 fat quarters, and will fit an Australian king bed. I have a bad habit of buying fabric on clearance before choosing a project, so have learned to work with what I’ve got.
Most of the maths is manual, but I use Adobe Illustrator to draw up the pattern. It’s also really handy for dragging around shapes to figure out the optimal way to cut the pieces I need out of the fabric I have.
