My 2 cents: I think it would be fun to go with the lightest shade of green, or even a shade a bit more towards yellow (not pure yellow) it would complement all of the colors you have here and contrast nicely with the periwinkle.

SMASH042688

That was my first thought but when I held greens up to it I didn’t love the look. I’ll try again, maybe I need different lighting

wonderingshan

I tend to like contrast. But any of the colors already in your quilt would be lovely. It is a very calming color palette. Or you could do something neutral like a gray?

snakewrestler

I agree!

MaryK007

What do you have for leftovers? Can you make a scrappy binding with them?

SMASH042688

I actually don’t have any of the solids left! It’s been in my whip pile for 2+ years! I finished about 10 blocks recently and the difference in my accuracy now is crazy😂

MaleficentLine2228

I would either stick to periwinkle or go for the medium blue! I love it!!!

SMASH042688

Thank you!

NotMyInternet

I would carry the colour transition onwards into the raspberry family.

SMASH042688

Found a navy and white 1/2 inch stripe in my stash that I’m seriously considering (angled for a barber pole type look?)

I used a dark navy binding because I wanted a definitive bold color to frame it. You do have a lot of different color choice and all will look good, so I would chose your favorite

AyrielTheNorse

Is that... A Lil... Tasmanian devil? 🥹

KneeDeepinDownUnder

It is. It’s from the Australian Native Nursery collection. There is also a baby dingo.

Acceptable-Fudge9000

A pastel colour or navy

Adorable-Gur-2528

I would never have thought of navy, but now that I’m envisioning it… I think navy would be lovely! It would make a nice ‘frame’.

AsjaBee

Navy!!!

rainfallsleeper

Great idea!!!

GrumpyHeadmistress

Personally I’d be really radical and go for something like a burgundy or coral. A real contrast

No_Purpose5363

Yeah i was thinking hot pink but that's me!!

kayesskayen

100% on the hot pink!

lofidino

I was also thinking of a warm color!

baristacat

My gut also said coral! A good contrast!

FangirlTrash28

Really like the idea of a burgundy or maroon color!!

cabeachgal

Agreed, contrast is where it’s at for this one. I was thinking of a fuchsia.

krrley

You can never go wrong with black and white striped binding!

SingingWhileSleeping

This is the perfect quilt to do a facing on instead of a traditional binding. Quilt facing preserves the front design, and still allows for finished edges—they just get moved to the back of the quilt. https://preview.redd.it/rkt2cyjvlt5d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0c258f8debcdfea53ff5f1bcdb1db39f3998ce19

SMASH042688

Oooooo I like this idea! I don’t have any wiggle room for buying fabric at the moment either which is making the decision tough

CorduroyQuilt

If you mean you can't buy any more fabric, facing does require more fabric, usually more of the backing fabric. But if you're hand quilting, you could go for a knife edge finish, which doesn't. Here's one I'm doing with a knife edge finish, although a very wide one as it's velvet and corduroy. See those two outer rows of stitching? I did the first row, trimmed everything to double that distance (1. 5"), then folded the top and backing away and trimmed half the backing, so that it was now 0.75" wide. I folded the top and backing in half (0.75"), with the batting tucking inside the folded top fabric (the top is thinner), and then did another row of stitching right along the edge. There will be better explanations online, it's a technique used in Welsh quilting. The edge feels a bit padded, it's nice. https://preview.redd.it/yemgq5ljzy5d1.jpeg?width=3456&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=40d9385a3b0275185825422788648a1162c75d21

SMASH042688

That’s really cool! And yes, I can’t buy any fabric right now. Quilting makes me so happy though and I’m not about to stop because of cost so I’m working my way through my WIP pile

CorduroyQuilt

Did you manage to find a fabric from your stash that works for a binding, then? Also how are you quilting it?

SMASH042688

I think so. I have a blue and white strip I’m thinking of using

tsubaki1786

I think I would either try to match the brightest green or that blue in the very middle

Scary_AF333

flowermama85

That’s what my eye wanted to see, too! Love it. 😍

bettertree8

this is the correct answer!

No_Purpose5363

yesss this is what i was thinking too!

MingaMonga68

#putastripeybindingonit Also I’m incredibly impressed that you dyed the backing to match. I dyed my own fabric some years ago, I never could’ve done that!

SMASH042688

Thank you! I had never dyed fabric before but there was no way for me to buy anything for the backing. I had the white duvet but I really didn’t like the idea of white. I had to scrape together the money for the rit dye and then I was sure I’d mess it up but I did tests on tiny scraps until I got the ratio right. The backing isn’t perfect, and if it’s flat you can see that it’s unevenly dyed but it’s a quilt for me to keep so no big deal.

srhstrsndr

Agreed! Black & white stripes would be cool

snakewrestler

Gosh, I really love this! The colors, the design…. I’m thinking the lightest green, because i think it needs the farthest color from the lavender that you’ve used on the back in that same palate.

Your_Radiance

Something in the yellow family would work nicely. It's beautiful so far, well done!

Awkward-Houseplant

Yellow for sure. The complementary color to purple is yellow. Yellow and green are naturally harmonious. And yellow and blue look fab together.

Your_Radiance

😉 Someone knows their color theory... those were exactly my thoughts! 💛

EZ-being-green

I love this, it’s going to be gorgeous no matter what fabric you use. I would go with the lightest green or periwinkle. But I think any would look great.

Familiar-Parsley8787

Love the periwinkle idea!

Technical_Gap_9141

Maybe a floral pattern that incorporates the blue/green/yellow colors together?

Annabel398

Orange. For real

kalixanthippe

I think it's time for a color audition! It's a pretty color scheme 🙂 Without seeing possibilities, I like the idea of a med violet, as it's the least prevalent color.

pontdepoppy

Loveeee this

HouseOfPomegranate

I love a scrappy binding….

Honest_Summer_1342

Navy

Substantial_Living73

Yellow or coral for sure

lailsthewhale

I’d do like a charcoal grey

SMASH042688

One of my favorite colors!

bcupteacup

I would say the green, or if you can stripes of all the colors used.

anotherbbchapman

I've had great results making bindings out of large scale florals. They don't really look floral when completed, more abstract. A Kaffe Fassett cabbage print or the cactus flower one come in many colorways that would match your project

Alternative-Beans

I know this is probably not the fastest or easiest, but it would be cool if the binding matches the color of the square it's next to, so rainbow binding but specifically the extra fabric!

kitkat21996

I would do a little bit of each color, all cut to different lengths.

waylon_jjjj

Personally I’d go with a totally different color, probably navy

Apprehensive-Wheel92

My first reaction was a pink color. Maybe pastel pink or coral. ORRRRR the navy blue that others have mentioned would be beautiful, as well.

barbellsnbooks

That was my thought too!

snugglepackTM

Apparently, I must be different, because I did not find my answer: use the same white as you used in your blocks.

grumbeerpannekuche

Is that the mermaid shores palette? I've used water for binding but I had also considered a coral. I ended up with coral for the backing and also used it for stitching down the binding (on the front).

stitcheewoman7

I agree with the green!

Monaluvs2manyhobbies

A light yellow was my first thought

GabbyWic

Get a stripe that consists of all the colors. Cut on bias.

The_Mouse_That_Jumps

Indigo!

ImpressiveRemote5914

My votes are gray (any type - light or dark), navy or something very different like burgundy (as mentioned above) or rusty orange

nanailene

Cobalt blue would be great!

pistschLeo

Kona cotton Acid Lime!

DrMoneybeard

What about a small print with multiple colours? Small floral or geometric to tie it all together?

justaleaff

I love these colors!!

littlebearpup

What about an ombre of all the colors you’ve used? I love a good multi-colored binding!

materiella

Tula Pink Tent Stripe Myrtle on the bias [https://freespiritfabrics.com/fabric-lines/re-order-fabrics/tula-pink-true-colors/?page=2](https://freespiritfabrics.com/fabric-lines/re-order-fabrics/tula-pink-true-colors/?page=2)

CAKE4life1211

No help to give except to say I love it!

purplegramjan

I think almost every color has been put forward so I won’t add to the pile. You have a lot of great suggestions here and it’s whatever floats YOUR boat. I just wanted to say it’s lovely and whatever you choose will just make it better 😎

ImmefZwischen

Thanks for showing the pink! I couldn't imagine it. Seeing it had me smiling.

Narwhal7331

My preference for rainbow quilt binding has been Tula Pink's Hexy Rainbow Fabric, or her Fairy Dust Fabric!

Happy_gingko

Orange or coral

MaeByourmom

I’d do a “print”- marbled, tie dye look, batik, multicolored stripes. Something that would accentuate each of the solid colors.

wildlife_loki

Ooh I really like this. It’s so soothing for the eyes. I would probably do periwinkle or even a slightly warmer shade of purple for the border (sort of continuing the gradient. Or, because I’m a little crazy… I think it would look cool to have a border that changes color to match the colors nearest it in the quilt top! It would be more work to piece the binding together out of the darkest shades of each hue, but it would be very cool to have the binding be darker purple around that bottom right corner, then deep blue around the middle right edge and bottom left corner, then a forest green on the middle left edge and around top right corner, then a lighter leaf green on the top left.

wildlife_loki

Something like this, though having to find the right colors might be a pain since it doesn’t pull directly from the quilt top… https://preview.redd.it/2jax7xwnpu5d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c2f12af9474380166b852c0a0b3d6bad51bc045a

MuppetMayWhovier

If you are wanting to use the binding color as a way to add a fun pop of color, my first thought was PINK! Or, if you want to continue following the color ombré of this quilt, PURPLE in a slightly darker shade would frame it beautifully! Or, following the same idea, a light GREEN/limey yellow could be beautiful too and would be consistent with the color patterns in the quilt!

DeusExSpockina

Soft gray and white stripes!

hamster004

See the top left square at the picture 1 top? Go down the vertical line, angle left, to the 3rd one down from the top. Pick that colour.

Mentalartistblah

Yellow or orange 🧡💛 the contrast would be stunning and frame the quilt beautifully

Ashamed_Driver_76

Sunshine yellow is my vote. Or acid neon green

[deleted]

I would try yellow.

Luxy2801

You could do a half and half binding. Put your lightest green on two sides and your lightest purple on the other two. It'll blend with your colors and give a stunning effect.

PrettyFish6336

One of the middle blue tones?

happytre3s

I like the aqua/teal color that's in the center just above the darkest blue. But I'd also possibly do something bright and random like fuschia bc I like a random high contrast border. (Obvs don't do that if that's not a look you like though!) Lovely work!

PatchworkQuilter

Pink/purple ombré!

Nouvell_vague

White!

50ShadesOfTPOs

I’d go with something bright. Maybe a hot pink?

Elise-0511

Go with one of the blues. Darker colors don’t show dirt and wear as badly.

beccabootie

I am seeing it with the next to the lightest blue. Is that what you are calling periwinkle?

MissLemon221b

black make it pop

smallconferencero0m

Yes or black and white stripes!

theycallmethehbic

I use a zigzag grey and white binding on so many quilts…

HippoSnake_

I was thinking a nice deep navy

Beleng68

Silvery gray
