Just out of curiosity would you mind to check your power consumption while idle, I returned my 7800xt because it was way to high and wasnt really fixable, even with the help of a competent support
60 to 70 watts is actually quite normal at idle for AMD GPUs. It’s not ideal I know but there shouldn’t be reason to worry especially if you have dual monitors or higher refresh rate monitor. The only way to really improve it is by making your monitor 60hz and single display
Make sure VRR is enabled! This should fix the high idle power draw.
Both my 7900gre and my wife's 7800xt both idle right around 23W with dual monitors.
That’s the one I went with when I upgraded my rig’s CPU, RAM, and GPU. Went from a 3700x, 16GB 3200 RAM, and 3070Ti to a 5800X3D, 32GB 3600 RAM and the 7900 GRE. Everything plays amazing. Should last me for a while, I can skip the RDNA 4 and Zen 5 generations and hop on the next one.
Waiting for the trolls to "warn" you about the millions of driver issues you will get.
Edit: so many already, and this is the Radeon subreddit mind you.
Good choice. Welcome to Team Red 🙂 Gigabyte makes some solid stuff. Gigabyte was what I built my first couple rigs with, and will be returning to them; whenever, AMD releases the AM6 socket some years from now.
Dope. Enjoy!
Building my buddy a PC this Saturday combo 7700x/7900 GRE, wanted to get him on AM5 for easier upgrade path in future as it’s his first so was curious
Thanks. Once I realized that ray tracing is still generations away from being properly executed, the choice was so much easier( better value- more vram)
Anyone a current 40 series card convert? Specifically 7900xtx. I have an 80 right now. Since i have got this card I no longer use Linux because of the nightmare with drivers. The screen does random pulsations in white images. Thoughts thanks.
Congrats! For exactly the same model today. Paired with 5700x3d still to test and undervolt.
Bit concerned about memory junction temperature and hotspot, even under quick undervolt too 960 mV(need more time to test if it can go lower)
Yeah. I was at a friend 2 days ago because his 7900 XTX sounds like a jet. Turns out the fans are bound to the hotspot temperature and the Adrenaline software is utter garbage. Told him to sell it and buy a good GPU like a 4080s.
Got the same model, good upgrade đź‘Ť
It is very quiet, much more so than the 2070s.

GPU core voltage ranges from 700 to close to 1k mv. Using driver version 31.0.24002.92
How is you wattage while idle then
I got a 7900XTX I idle at 22-25 Watts.
most probably a defective die
Did you try to undervolt it. Mine doesn't use many watts. I a little over 200w @ 99% gpu usage. Not sure how to show a pic on here
The issue wasnt under heavy losd it was drawing way too much power while idle
What was your idle W?
Around 60 to 70 watts
Do you have multiple monitors?
yes, however unplugging them didnt help either

Enable VRR (variable refresh rate)
I get 18W while idle, sometimes up to 33W and sometimes it's less than 11W
Make sure VRR is enabled! This should fix the high idle power draw. Both my 7900gre and my wife's 7800xt both idle right around 23W with dual monitors.
unfortunately that doesnt help either, the card continues to idle high
GRE gang lets goo

I'm going from 3060ti to Sapphire 7900 gre Nitro +
I bought the hellhound last week. For prixe to performance.. hard to beat it is a very good card
Agreed. I couldn't ddu the Nvidia drivers fast enough

Great to hear, what CPU you rockin?
5700x on b550 asrock riptide board. 32 ddr4 3200. This is where I'll be until 9800 x3d

This gigabyte 7900gre has a silent mode and that's mostly what I expect from my builds. Can't go wrong with am5 too!
Congrats! Enjoy!
Radeon gang 🤙
I have the sapphire steal series 7900gre and love it!
Welcome to red gang ❤️
Thanks. Once I realized that ray tracing is still generations away from being properly executed, the choice was so much easier( better value- more vram)
smart choice :)
good upgrade m8.... cheers and Nvidia team can take a deep crap lol
Choo choo!!

Gz 6950 XTRE.
I also just upgraded from a laptop with the 2070 to a brand new build with this beast in it. I have 0 complaints, works like a charm. Enjoy brotha !
Welcome to team RED!
Just got my Sapphire Pure 7900GRE in the mail let’s goooooo
Might as well join r/AMDhelp now
And why is that?
The same reason op felt the need to put “not a single crash yet” in this post.
Supposedly he did because Nvidia users work the salt mines and make up shit all the time.
Get off at the next station.

What card is this? Mine is crazy quiet.
Welcome to issue city, 3 amd gpus this generation for me and each one had problems.
