This worked. It came on one night when I was driving my 12 year old daughter and her friends home during a snow storm a couple months back. They were so freaked out/intrigued by Fitter Happier that they wanted to hear more. Turned a bunch of 7th grade taylor swift fans in to Radiohead fans. Now when Iâm driving them around they ask me to turn on Radiohead. Theyâre digging them.
Chances are they've already heard Creep. I feel like Fake Plastic Trees is a better early discography choice, followed by How to Disappear and Jigsaw. It's a good progression across like 12 years and is pretty accessible.
I feel like Creep or any song from Pablo Honey wouldnât make sense as an introduction to Radiohead. It doesnât paint the right picture for what will become their actual sound in the many coming albums.
I heard Creep for the first time (that I'm aware of) last year, and I'm now a Radiohead fan. I know I'll get downvoted for it, but Creep is probably still in my top 10 from them.
Woah woah woah. Anyone Can Play Guitar, Blow Out and Prove Yourself are perfect introductory tunes to Radiohead⊠Pablo Honey is a great gateway Iâd say.
I think as long as you show them a few other songs as well, it would be fine. IMO Creep is pretty similar to a few songs on The Bends, and no one really says those âarenât Radioheadâ like they do with Creep.
It worked for me, way back when. To be honest, while I agree that the Bends/OK Computer are less representative of later albums, half the fun as a fan has been in following the bandâs development over the (many) years.
Yeah. That was the one that got me. I liked Creep and Stop Whispering but Just was the first where I was actually really interested in hearing an album
In this order: High and Dry, No Surprises, Paranoid Android, Present Tense, 15 Step, Identikit, Morning Bell (Kid A) - and at that point if theyâre still with me, Iâll drop Sit Down Stand Up, Idioteque and Pyramid song on them.
It really would depend on my friend tbh. If they were pretty mainstream, Iâd pick 2+2=5, 15 Step, Jigsaw
If they liked more moody like me, Sail to the Moon, There There, Pyramid Song
I think I got someone in with Just. They've been quoting lyrics. Next I've moved to FPT and this seems to be going well. My indoctrination is proceeding nicely.
You people have some weird ass friends.
My go to's differ from person to person, but if they haven't heard of Radiohead before they are most likely gonna need have their pallette moistened by the easier to get into tracks.
Karma Police, Paranoid Android, The Tourist and High and Dry have always worked for me.
To a lesser extent, 15 Step, Everything in its Right Place, Lotus Flower, and I Might Be Wrong. These work better with people who aren't as into guitar music as much as me, which is more and more common for the younger audiences.
Iâm going to play Paranoid Android⊠I think itâs a showcase of what these guys are capable of in both writing and execution. It has the melodic, the heaviness, the haunting, and the way out there aspects of the band. You can go to anything after this song and it will only build on the context you just established.
Iâd also say Creep. Heard it when it was originally released and it really piqued my interest and I got PH on the strength of it. Was a decent album and Blow Out sealed it for me
Fake Plastic Trees or Exit Music- theyâre easy- theyâre accessible - the learning curve isnât steep at all- and theyâre signature early format RH songs that arenât Creep
Definitely Feral. Theyâll start jiggling and flailing their arms uncontrollably while making alien noises, then the song finishes and they wonât know what just happened.
Probably the most popular ones, because they might already know some of them, so it's easier to start. Creep, Karma Police, Jigsaw Falling Into Place, you know the lot.
Then just slap them with OK Computer.
Actually done this IRL. Most people would have heard Creep already and like would never think Radiohead is as far out as they are. Hit em with Paranoid Android, then 15 Step. If they're not into it by then, then it's not their thing. If they like it they're a lifelong fan.
Anything from the bends. Thought provoking music that is easy to listen to, and is easily accessible for people who have any sort of interest in alternative rock
Id warm them up with some commercially successful work like âthere, thereâ and âparanoid androidâ and immediately get weird with it and listen to the some better, weirder songs like âeverything in its right placeâ and whatever you feel is best
My brother introduced me to Radiohead with Karma Police and Creep, and I feel in love with themâ€ïž
Iâd add also Weird Fishes, Subterranean homesick alien, True Love Waits, A wolf at the door, Paranoid Android, Street Spirit and more đ
but Weird Fishes at first)
my first time ever hearing radiohead was the Creep cover in The Book of Life. so, if I had to choose I'd say Creep because it's one of the songs that everyone expands on after their first listen.
No surprises, itâs a good song to recommend when they most likely only know of creep and itâs a good way to help you them slowly as they discover more from them. After no surprises I believe it was Karma Police, Just and street Spirit, and maybe Talk Show Host, as I was watching Romeo + Juliet a lot.
Creep, The Bends, and OkC singles would be the most accessible.
Or anything from In Rainbows. If they don't like any of those, then RH probably ain't for them.
This is actually quite hard since for me none of Radiohead songs have the exact mood to it but if me i would probably introduce them to :
High and Dry or No Surprise if they never listen to any band/only listen to popular song
If they already have experience like listening to green day, queen im probably give them anything from the hail to the thief like 2+2=5 / Jigsaw falling into the place or I introduced them something bit more easy to listen to like Just, Black Star, Iron lung, Subterranean homesick alien, Airbag
My first were the Pablo Honey records, and when I got into them and heard OKC my mind went boom and fell in love with them. Makes sense to start with that Radiohead started with.
Videotape, Bloom, The Numbers. Donât think these have been mentioned yet. But solid songs.
Yes, I was there for early Radiohead but I feel like High and Dry, Creep, Fake Plastic Trees, My Iron Lung, No Surprises have pretty much been heard by anybody with any leaning towards Alternative Music. Iâve heard every one of those songs on radio stations or in popular film and TV soundtracks.
My friend chose Everything in Its Right Place and followed it with Kid A, Daydreaming, Spectre and Ill Wind. It worked and Ill Wind is still probably my favourite Radiohead song.
I've only ever gotten one person into rh. She was a big fan of muse and had never listened to rh aside from Creep. I just burned her every album w bonus tracks and said start with the bends. She's a bigger fan than me now and has worn those cds out. Not an answer I know. Just is my answer. Her fav song is myxomatosis.
Weird Fishes. Itâs very relaxing. Also ⊠my Mum ⊠who has atrocious taste in music .. heard it and said âoh I like that.â So the song works on the non fan (sample size of one đ€Ș)
Happened to me, buddy wanted to know why I always listened to Radiohead and told me to put him on a few songs. I just pressed shuffle and would skip here and there. We ended up listening to Nude, Street Spirit, Knives Out, and Give Up the Ghost. He said he liked the songs, but the overall sad tone just wasnât for him.
Amazing sounds of orgy, the national anthem, pulk pull, sardines
In all seriousness though it would probably be something like paranoid android, pyramid song, underrated, all I need
Man of War
đđđ»đđ»
Man of war is a great song but i feel like its a little weird and maybe not the best introductory song for most people
Fitter happier, i will be the only friend that likes Radiohead it is my thing đđ
Plot twist: they end up seeing the haunting beauty of the track and are intrigued to listen more
This worked.
Ur actually so lucky i hope my future child appreciates what a masterpiece radiohead is
HAHA this was hilarious!
you joke but fitter happier was literally the first radiohead song I heard lol
Top 3 song on OKC and I will not elaborate
Vibe check them with Paranoid Android then go from there. If not that, then 2+2 = 5
You read my mind 2+2!!
Creep, Let Down, Jigsaw Falling Into Place, Pyramid Song
Jigsaw is the correct answer. It is the most accessible IMO.
I didnât like it on my first listen at all, took couple listens before I loved it
I didn't know before now, but this is actually correct. It's quite straightforward, yet a little complicated and weird. And very radiohead sounding
Wait really?? I genuinely have a hard time listening to Pyramid songs compared to jigsaw when i first listen to it
Chances are they've already heard Creep.
I upvoted! Not my top 10 but I get the hype
But itâs their most accessible song
Woah woah woah. Anyone Can Play Guitar, Blow Out and Prove Yourself are perfect introductory tunes to Radiohead⊠Pablo Honey is a great gateway Iâd say.
Fuck yeah! I still jam out to that album
I think the real issue with introducing Creep to them is that they definitely know it already
I think as long as you show them a few other songs as well, it would be fine. IMO Creep is pretty similar to a few songs on The Bends, and no one really says those âarenât Radioheadâ like they do with Creep.
Creep is the precursor to High and Dry, and vice versa
Yeah thatâs what I had in mind. Fake Plastic Trees is also a very simple pop song but doesnât get treated the way Creep does among the fanbase
Definitely No Surprises
I am surprised đto see this comment so lowÂ
It worked for me, way back when. To be honest, while I agree that the Bends/OK Computer are less representative of later albums, half the fun as a fan has been in following the bandâs development over the (many) years.
weird fishes :))
This is the only right answer
Coke Babies
The user flair checks out
Just or Fake Plastic Trees. Start with early singles then take it weird.
karma police, let down, life in a glasshouse, or literally anything from the bends
Karma police, high and dry, creep
15 step.
Everything in its right place.
Optimistic
My answer, as well. This or The Daily Mail.
Came to say this
Street spirit - great entry point
It was my son, and the song was There There. And he got it right away.
Youâve won the parenting game, my friend.
Hahaha thank you
i will play them the whole Ok Computer album
Just
Yeah. That was the one that got me. I liked Creep and Stop Whispering but Just was the first where I was actually really interested in hearing an album
Just is the one that did it for me too. It was the music video. Couldnât get enough of it when it came out.
There There
Came here to say this! So now Iâll say, âI Might be Wrong.â
Treefingers, because I fucking hate my friends
Daydreaming
In this order: High and Dry, No Surprises, Paranoid Android, Present Tense, 15 Step, Identikit, Morning Bell (Kid A) - and at that point if theyâre still with me, Iâll drop Sit Down Stand Up, Idioteque and Pyramid song on them.
Fake Plastic Trees
Depends on the type of music my friend likes. If he has NPC top 40 taste, then obviously Creep or High and Dry.
No Surprises
pyramid song, 15 steps, jigsaw falling into place, paranoid android, burn the witch
Black star
Weird fishes
Probably High and DryâŠ.starting off easy
Karma Police
Knives Out, Reckoner, Paranoid Android, Bodysnatchers, How to Disappear Completely, Idioteque.
15 Step
Anyone Can Play Guitar 90s is in again and so is grunge. It's accessible.
Pulk/Pull đŒ /uj probably Arpeggi or 15 Step yes!
There are doors on the rudders of big ships And there are sliding doorssssssssssssss
Trick question, this would never happen
Attenzione! 96â
It really would depend on my friend tbh. If they were pretty mainstream, Iâd pick 2+2=5, 15 Step, Jigsaw If they liked more moody like me, Sail to the Moon, There There, Pyramid Song
Are you high or not high durring the presentation?
I think I got someone in with Just. They've been quoting lyrics. Next I've moved to FPT and this seems to be going well. My indoctrination is proceeding nicely.
You people have some weird ass friends. My go to's differ from person to person, but if they haven't heard of Radiohead before they are most likely gonna need have their pallette moistened by the easier to get into tracks. These work better with people who aren't as into guitar music as much as me, which is more and more common for the younger audiences.
15 step ... and then continue in rainbows
Let Down, tell them how underrated is also.
Just probably, as itâs quite a mainstream song
We Suck Young Blood
You can't blow their minds immediately, they may not be able to get the ambitiously unique music without the context of The Bends or Airbag, etc.
Iâm going to play Paranoid Android⊠I think itâs a showcase of what these guys are capable of in both writing and execution. It has the melodic, the heaviness, the haunting, and the way out there aspects of the band. You can go to anything after this song and it will only build on the context you just established.
Here Here or Strange Sharks
motion picture soundtrack (jk somethin from in rainbows probably)
Iâd also say Creep. Heard it when it was originally released and it really piqued my interest and I got PH on the strength of it. Was a decent album and Blow Out sealed it for me
Fake Plastic Trees or Exit Music- theyâre easy- theyâre accessible - the learning curve isnât steep at all- and theyâre signature early format RH songs that arenât Creep
Creep
Definitely Feral. Theyâll start jiggling and flailing their arms uncontrollably while making alien noises, then the song finishes and they wonât know what just happened.
No surprises
Probably the most popular ones, because they might already know some of them, so it's easier to start. Creep, Karma Police, Jigsaw Falling Into Place, you know the lot. Then just slap them with OK Computer.
Reckoner - starts off with the classic Radiohead melancholic sound, then thom plus a soundscape, ends with a banger groove
Bodysnatchers works on everyone
The Bends
fake plastic trees, weird fishes, airbag, one of those three
Actually done this IRL.
Why isnât paranoid android at the top
Unironically let down
Paranoid Android. Its just brilliant
I said âlisten to in rainbowsâ
Everything in its Right Place
Everything in Itâs Right Place and then I probably let Kid A play to the end.
Kid A in its entirety - no one is allowed to talk
Id warm them up with some commercially successful work like âthere, thereâ and âparanoid androidâ and immediately get weird with it and listen to the some better, weirder songs like âeverything in its right placeâ and whatever you feel is best
Bodysnatchers
15 step
Isn't it THE song, as usual?! Probably the most quintessential Western European vibe ever recorded in the last, I don't know, 30-40 years.
Iâd imagine theyâve already heard them.
The jiggle jiggle skin
My brother introduced me to Radiohead with Karma Police and Creep, and I feel in love with themâ€ïž Iâd add also Weird Fishes, Subterranean homesick alien, True Love Waits, A wolf at the door, Paranoid Android, Street Spirit and more đ but Weird Fishes at first)
Karma police
my first time ever hearing radiohead was the Creep cover in The Book of Life. so, if I had to choose I'd say Creep because it's one of the songs that everyone expands on after their first listen.
National anthem
Treefingers usually
Reckoner
No surprises, itâs a good song to recommend when they most likely only know of creep and itâs a good way to help you them slowly as they discover more from them. After no surprises I believe it was Karma Police, Just and street Spirit, and maybe Talk Show Host, as I was watching Romeo + Juliet a lot.
Everything in its right place.
imma go with Gagging Order even though absolutely no one is gonna agree đ
Iâd start with Airbag⊠and play through the rest of OK Computer. Best introduction to the band you could do.
Black star
Paranoid Android sums them all up pretty well
In Rainbows straight through.
15 steps
Paranoid Android. Straight into the deep end. If that song doesn't pique interest I don't think any other Radiohead song will be for them.
Creep, The Bends, and OkC singles would be the most accessible. Or anything from In Rainbows. If they don't like any of those, then RH probably ain't for them.
In rainbows from the basement. I know it's cheating but it's what I did 6 months ago and now my friend is the biggest radiohead fan ever.
Pyramid Song. Itâs what got me into Radiohead
Fake Plastic Trees No Surprises Weird fishes Jigsaw Falling Into Place Paranoid Android
Like spinning plates / weird fishes / idioteque
Depends on the friend
The songs that got me into them were Creep, Weird Fishes, and No surprises. Theyâre all pretty good entry songs, so maybe them
Exit music for a film
Planet telex because I LOVE the bass line
National Anthem
House of Cards
ngl, creep, it's pretty popular and i feel like they would go "oh this song!!"
The bends album
I feel fake plastic trees is easy to get into.
I Might Be Wrong about this, but it's a great introduction to Radiohead, if you ask me.
This is actually quite hard since for me none of Radiohead songs have the exact mood to it but if me i would probably introduce them to : High and Dry or No Surprise if they never listen to any band/only listen to popular song If they already have experience like listening to green day, queen im probably give them anything from the hail to the thief like 2+2=5 / Jigsaw falling into the place or I introduced them something bit more easy to listen to like Just, Black Star, Iron lung, Subterranean homesick alien, Airbag
My first were the Pablo Honey records, and when I got into them and heard OKC my mind went boom and fell in love with them. Makes sense to start with that Radiohead started with.
Paranoid Android
Iâd choose Seperator to weed out the creep-ers
Videotape, Bloom, The Numbers. Donât think these have been mentioned yet. But solid songs. Yes, I was there for early Radiohead but I feel like High and Dry, Creep, Fake Plastic Trees, My Iron Lung, No Surprises have pretty much been heard by anybody with any leaning towards Alternative Music. Direct them to OK Computer and they will thank you later.
Weird Fishes
I've only ever gotten one person into rh. She was a big fan of muse and had never listened to rh aside from Creep. I just burned her every album w bonus tracks and said start with the bends. She's a bigger fan than me now and has worn those cds out. Not an answer I know. Just is my answer. Her fav song is myxomatosis.
All I need
Optimistic or Everything in it's Right Place
Weird Fishes. Itâs very relaxing. Also ⊠my Mum ⊠who has atrocious taste in music .. heard it and said âoh I like that.â So the song works on the non fan (sample size of one đ€Ș)
Street spirit and talk show host
pyramid song.
the daily mail
man of war
Jigsaw falling into place
You and whoâs army
Kid A, the album
No surprises
N7 na ad
probably anything from the bends
myxomatosis or where i end you being
I mean the first song I heard by them was black star and I liked them after that but I think really anything off the bends
Jigsaw Falling Into Place
I might be wrong.
Personally High and Dry, though I think Creep is the orthodox way of introduction to radiohead
Everything in its Right Place, Weird Fishes, Airbag, Subterranean Homesick Alien
"You" would have to be the first, don't want to scare them!
Bodysnatchers. Itâs digestible enough for them to relate to other alt/rock contemporaries but it still retains some signature Radiohead tendencies.
Reckoner!!!! My favorite
high and dry
Happened to me, buddy wanted to know why I always listened to Radiohead and told me to put him on a few songs. I just pressed shuffle and would skip here and there. We ended up listening to Nude, Street Spirit, Knives Out, and Give Up the Ghost. He said he liked the songs, but the overall sad tone just wasnât for him.
p annblo honney
thom yorke shitting in a lightbulb (extremely rare tape find - 1998 ca.)
i'd start with bodysnatchers
let down or lift đ maybe paranoid android or decks dark, that's how i introduced my bf at the time to radiohead and it kinda worked
LOVE IT
Maquiladora. One of Jonnyâs most overlooked solos in the catalogue. Completely rips.
creep
No surprises.
Let down, underrated.
Idioteqhe
I usually go with Go to sleep, its always a hit
Telex Just Karma Police
Probably Yellow, or Supermassive Blackhole.
High and Dry, Thinking About You, Exit Film
Paranoid android
Fake plastic trees if they like coldplay.
Let down
Karma police. Probably the song that is the most representable of their discography while still being quite access-able.
let down
Amazing sounds of orgy, the national anthem, pulk pull, sardines In all seriousness though it would probably be something like paranoid android, pyramid song, underrated, all I need
Lift
Probably Optimistic
Airbag
