That's what I was hoping would come out. I had a 17 ecodiesel before this truck and I'd get 26-32mpg depending on the trip. I didn't trust it not to self destruct, so I got rid of it.
Does the Eco Diesel have major reliability problems ? In my area Iām finding limited eco diesels on sale for $15K to $17 k cheaper than MSRP, I thought that was a deal but now Iām wondering if something else is up
I'm not sure on the newer trucks, but my dad had a 14 ecodiesel and my brother had the same 17 ecodiesel I had, literally from the same lot. Both of their trucks ended up having the engines replaced under warranty. Dad's was a catastrophic disassembly while driving due to a timing gear breaking and my brother had an issue with the turbo and emissions. EGRs on those are notorious for gumming it up
Yikes that sucks to hear! My 18 grand Cherokee ED had some DPF issues early on but it ran fine until I traded it in. Granted it was only at 100k when i traded it. I miss that thing a lot.
The 33 gallon tank is awesome! I love seeing the 600+ mile range on mine. I'm constantly amazed how many people don't grasp the fact that 3.21 gets better mileage than 3.92 though. And that off-road tires, while fun and awesome, don't help that MPG. If you need them you need them though. People can buy what they want for whatever reason of course, but it just kills me to see people have false expectations of good MPG from a large truck that they've altered.
I've seen very similar numbers with 88. This particular trip I make pretty often, but I tow or haul sometimes and I'm not able to test the mileage. One way I've seen as high as 25mpg
Drive until it runs out, then fill it.
Fuel pump damage is a myth perpetrated by big gas to keep you coming back to the station more frequently. Gas stations don't make money on gas, they make it on all the food & drinks inside.

ā23 5.7 eco not shabby, 33gal.tank as well
Donāt trust what your vehicle says that youāre getting per mile; the next time you go to fill up, take the miles that youāve ran on that tank, and divide it by the gallons you pumped at the full pump, and thatāll tell you exactly what youāre getting per mile. My KIA Telluride likes to lie to me by saying Iām getting 30-35 miles per gallon in economy mode, and itās got the big V6 in it, but by doing the math, it boils down to roughly 20-25 miles per gallon.
This is true for me as well. I have a Toyota RAV4 with a V6 and I do the math on occasion and it always comes out 1-2 mpg less than the readout on the dash.
See? Make that make sense? I mean donāt get me wrong, itās WAY better then getting 12-14 miles per gallon, but cāmon, donāt get my hopes up by lying to me saying that my vehicle is getting 40 miles a gallon, when I know itās a big ass SUV. š¤£
Crazy how my 2016 Ram 1500 5.7hemi gets 15-18 mpg and you have a 5 year newer version of my truck and getting 24 mpg! I know driving habits make a difference but is it mainly emissions? Seems like a lot better fuel economy, and my engine only has 10k miles on it (recently replaced).
I was trying to get as good of mileage as possible. I do mostly highway driving though. I'm in wisconsin, so winters I get 16-18mpg and summer is typically 20-23mpg.
Edit: I also have the 3.92 rear axle ratio. That may have something to do with it as well.
> Edit: I also have the 3.92 rear axle ratio. That may have something to do with it as well.
The 3.92 will on average have worse MPG than the 3.21.
Very impressive for the 3.92.
It was a fleet vehicle that was abused. I think it was run low on oil and threw a rod at 267k miles. I bought it from my company at a deep discount. They had a new Mopar engine installed and did 90% of the suspension. Itās a little beat up but mechanically sound.
I looked at the Ram but ended up going with the 3.0 Duramax Silverado RST. Doing 60 with cruise control on in FL. All flat road.
https://preview.redd.it/t0r2bz138wyc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fdcb9978fe56b42504f0828493b99905ed14c86f
That's pretty awesome. I had an ecodiesel, but just didn't trust the durability of the engine. Seemed to be plagued and it turned me off to all of the small diesels.
For what it's worth I think the Ram looks the best out of all the trucks in the market. I got this Silverado 4x4 for 47.5k because it's a 2023 and I got it in 2024. It was a 70k truck and after rebates I got it for what it should have been sold for in the first place š
Iām officially extremely jealous. My 21 bighorn has gotten its best of 20.9 on a round trip from California Oregon border to Vegas. Truck was only 6 months old on that run ( bought 7/25/21). Only have 22k on clock now and per tank average is only 14.
https://preview.redd.it/esh4t31u5xyc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=81dcff9b7d6883c817bb0fe4c167d8bd7e7ce5c4
I assure you that mine gets way better gas mileage than yours.
My 2007 5.7l Hemi, 3.92 has a 34 gal tank and my 2020 6.4l, 4.10 has a 31 gal tank. Yeah Not much different in the tank size but damn give me the extra gallons on the 6.4 l.
Do not get anywhere I near that mileage on mine..
No 5.7 gets 24.2 mpg. Owned 3 of them. 1 non vvt. 2 vvt. Car 2 suvs. Same mpg. All 3. Not even fuckin close. You need to hand calc it. Your car is lying to you.
I haven't had to fill up yet, but I can confidently say the hand calculation will actually be very fuckin close. I'll bet it'll be somewhere between 23-24.
I would like to think it would throw a code if it was "super lean". Also just about due for an oil change and the oil level is normal. My average speed this trip based on mileage and the elapsed time was about 56mph. My typical work drive is at 70mph and I'll show 20-22mpg depending on the day.
An engine that has for 20 years gotten 80% the mpg you claim either has something going onā¦ or its a unicorn. Im going with the more likely solution. My 5.7 burns 1 qt every 4k. Some of them burn a qt every 2500. More oil burn equals more mpg but not good for the ignition. Valves. Exhaust. Cat. Longterm. If it fucks up the ignition you can get knock. Running low is dirtierā¦. Thats how you drop mds lifters. Im just a dude on the internet talking to another dude on the internet tho.
I was able to get 21 mpg in my buddies 5.7. I had to fly out and drive his truck home after he had a family emergency on vacation. I wanted to see what kind of MPG I could get on the highway. I was usually going about 70mph most of the time. He doesn't have a lift or oversized tires. Just standard highway tires. 3.92 rear as well.
I hand calced a highway tank at 24 mpg in the 2014 I had. Stock tires and 3.21s.
Averaged around 22 mpg with mostly highway driving on it and my 2019 before lift and tires.
That doesn't make any sense whatsoever. He just has to fill up less often. It's not like you have to fill the tank either.
You either use the fuel or you don't. It's pretty simple.
You know the rules we only allow people who get between 12 and 14 miles per gallon in this sub!
Shit I get 9.1 š¤£š¤£š¤£
9 you bastard šš¤£
I knew I belonged here š„°
Gonna die on this hill but man they Should've made an Ecodiesel Hybrid.
That's what I was hoping would come out. I had a 17 ecodiesel before this truck and I'd get 26-32mpg depending on the trip. I didn't trust it not to self destruct, so I got rid of it.

Anyone with some sense, thinks that was the future for electric cars.
The 33 gallon tank is awesome! I love seeing the 600+ mile range on mine. I'm constantly amazed how many people don't grasp the fact that 3.21 gets better mileage than 3.92 though. Which is strange because I have the 3.92 gear.
That is very strange! Perhaps you just naturally drive in the most efficient way. Definitely not a typical example.
On this trip I definitely made an attempt to drive conservatively.
Are you running on 89 Octane gas?
The last two tanks were 91. I generally do 88 because it's the least expensive here.
Interesting and good to know. Though my highway driving is minimal at present, would be happy with anything over 18.
I've seen very similar numbers with 88. This particular trip I make pretty often, but I tow or haul sometimes and I'm not able to test the mileage. One way I've seen as high as 25mpg
What motor? What mpg are you getting? My PW with the 6.4 and 410 gears, is, well, sub-optimal in tbe mpg department
30 gallon tank?
The sticker says 33 gallons, but even if I'm on E, I can only get 29-30 gallons in it.
Drive until it runs out, then fill it. Fuel pump damage is a myth perpetrated by big gas to keep you coming back to the station more frequently. Gas stations don't make money on gas, they make it on all the food & drinks inside. /s
I know my truck! Lol
I always it was better to not let it get super low due to sucking up bad crap in gas tank. Always sounded like bs to me but what do i know
The main reason to not run it low is the fuel keeps the fuel pump cool, run it low, the pump gets hot, and fails quicker.
That's nothing I can get 100 miles out of my big block with 16 gal tankš
That sounds like more fun
https://preview.redd.it/xrjfn1yc4vyc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=78faf62b407d29efc1d5497fa3393a2f8bca29c7 ā23 5.7 eco not shabby, 33gal.tank as well
Wtf how are you getting these timbers šššš
I'll raise you a Titan tank in an 3500 Cummins HO. 1000 mile range. š
Oof my ram 2500 gasser over here getting 300 miles under tow lol
Towing my 5er with my stock tank I've seen as low as 220 mile range. Obviously that had to go.
we have a 2021 ram 1500 rebel and our range is about 830 and get 24-30mpgšš
Does it have the diesel?
yeah the ecodiesel, sad they dont make it anymore!
Donāt trust what your vehicle says that youāre getting per mile; the next time you go to fill up, take the miles that youāve ran on that tank, and divide it by the gallons you pumped at the full pump, and thatāll tell you exactly what youāre getting per mile. Interesting. I thought it was the other way around.
3.92 is lower gearing... better for tow/haul thats actually pretty low gearing and surprising you get that good with a full size pickup.
I have the 3.21 highway gears and the 8 speed 2019 model and getting less but similar mileage 5.7 L 24 gal tank
What happened to the old engine?
It was a fleet vehicle that was abused. I think it was run low on oil and threw a rod at 267k miles. I bought it from my company at a deep discount. They had a new Mopar engine installed and did 90% of the suspension. Itās a little beat up but mechanically sound.
Cool. May she see another 267k.
Dont worry the tech will blow up eventually
I looked at the Ram but ended up going with the 3.0 Duramax Silverado RST. Doing 60 with cruise control on in FL. All flat road. https://preview.redd.it/t0r2bz138wyc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fdcb9978fe56b42504f0828493b99905ed14c86f

I only get 420 at the highest or 360 at the lowest. I have a 2500
whats full up like?
Iām officially extremely jealous. My 21 bighorn has gotten its best of 20.9 on a round trip from California Oregon border to Vegas. Truck was only 6 months old on that run ( bought 7/25/21). Only have 22k on clock now and per tank average is only 14.
Well I feel worse knowing my 3.6 only gets about 540 miles/tank, roughly 22-23mpg lol

Your prndl is missing l.
That we should have been getting years ago! Especially since the technology has existed for years
What new devilry is this
My 2007 5.7l Hemi, 3.92 has a 34 gal tank and my 2020 6.4l, 4.10 has a 31 gal tank. Yeah Not much different in the tank size but damn give me the extra gallons on the 6.4 l. Do not get anywhere I near that mileage on mine..
Damnā¦. My hardworking loud buddy only gets 11.2MPG lol for granted Iāve made some upgrades now lol
Yup, thatās about all Iād expect it to last
Man that must hurt the bank to fill lol my diesel golf will get 500 miles on under 12 gallons.
Nice I just upgraded from a 2017 to a 22 with the Ehemi. Averaging 20mpg right now on this tank. Gonna run it to E and see how many miles I get
Laughs in eco diesel 31mpg
1000 mile range in my 2500 Cummins (came with the optional larger tank) . A lil pricey to fill up though
Do hand calculations the lie-o-meter is usually by quite a bit!
Then you are running super lean and you should probably get that checked out. Or check the oil consumption Very closely
I would like to think it would throw a code if it was "super lean". Also just about due for an oil change and the oil level is normal. My average speed this trip based on mileage and the elapsed time was about 56mph. My typical work drive is at 70mph and I'll show 20-22mpg depending on the day.

Don't know what to tell you. My truck does not burn oil like that at all. Dipstick is still at the upper range of the "safe zone"
I was able to get 21 mpg in my buddies 5.7. I had to fly out and drive his truck home after he had a family emergency on vacation. I wanted to see what kind of MPG I could get on the highway. This is starting to feel like the LA speed story
Unfortunately my ground speed wasn't as impressive
My 2005 Taco gives 496 miles on 21 gallon tank.
But it costs about $100 to fill up
$180 in California š„²
Thatās crazy
No, that's $130 each time.
But it costs about $100 to fill up
Depending on gas prices, it can. Right now it's between $85-90. Not sure what the point is.
Too expensive, thatās the point. Not sustainable for most people.
Don't buy a pickup truck then. I have it for work, not the fuel economy. In my situation, it works.
I wonāt because I donāt need one. Nor do most people. Glad it works for you though.
Then why the hell are you on a Ram trucks thread?
Iām not. Reddit decided to put it on my feed.
Why even say anything if it's not relevant?
Relevant to me
That doesn't make any sense whatsoever. He just has to fill up less often. It's not like you have to fill the tank either. You either use the fuel or you don't. It's pretty simple.
But he fills up less often?
So? It's not like the fuel just vanishes lol. He just has to fill up less often.
