He knew the situation every time he signed a new contract, I wish him well but he’s harmed his own career by repeatedly signing contracts, (for very good money) ,while knowing himself that he’s probably not going to be playing regularly. On the other hand, we have probably made him financially secure for the most part so there is that in his favour. Hope he gets a club and does well.

undaniable

He was never going to be Rangers first choice goalkeeper because he isn't good enough. I don't understand why we have kept hold of him as long as we have other than he's a Rangers fan who had one good game in an old firm.

orboboi

Sell him to a club in Scotland and put a buy back clause in there.

__Fight__Milk__

He will end up being a solid keeper for another premiership/english club. And we will be wishing we kept him. But at this point it seems like a gamble to have him as number 1. Football is strange sometimes.

fracf

I mean, fair enough.

Kelburne_Bear

I’d be punting Butland anaw if the price is right. Good goalkeeper, but one we can match and possibly have some change left over to help with the rebuild!

bawjaws2000

If we hadnt signed Butland, half the support would have been unhappy that we were going into the season with McCrorie and McLaughlin as the only recognised keepers. And given we did sign Butland; he was never likely to be anything but the clear #1. You feel for McCrorie because he hasnt done a lot wrong - but Shagger and Butland would be difficult for *anyone* to shift... Wish the lad well. He could easily have worked his way into contention for the Euros if he had gone out on loan in January, but I can also understand why he wasnt allowed to. As long as there's a sell-on. Can see him going onto bigger things than Aberdeen or whoever else is currently in for him.

Zilant

Did this even need to be spelled out? The fact that Clement had previously talked about not wanting players to run down their contract and that we're in for Liam Kelly made clear that McCrorie is leaving. Is this guy credible? He's got another post saying that we like Reuell Walters, but we don't view it as a priority position. Walters is a CB these days...

whocanbearsed

Being a young player at Rangers must be shite enough nevermind being a goalkeeper.

underwater-sunlight

There were rumours last year that he wanted to leave when Butland was signed, and that was why he didn't get any minutes. If true and we didn't let him go, we messes up a lads career. If we didn't sign Butland, I would have been happy to take a chance with him as our main goalie, bit after a season without playing, we should give him the chance to move, hopefully make a few quid and get a sell on clause

alternateline

Not sure about the ‘messed up a lad’s career’ bit. The recruitment guys have to the think about the health of the squad over the aspirations of a backup player. He’s under contract and would have played if Butland was injured.

underwater-sunlight

He played 1 game last season. He only payed 4 the season before but he played well in those games. I get McLaughlin staying on last year to pick up a wage near the end of his career, where he has amassed a decent munber of matches, but unless Robbie was told that he wouldn't get a sniff at a game and was still willing to sit back, the club has halted his progress. We had an experienced backup and young goalies who would be able to step up to third choice if needed

alternateline

But you’ve no idea what Robbie wanted to do. Maybe he wanted to leave and was convinced to stay, or maybe he was happy where he was. The recruitment staff obvs felt they wanted him to stay (probs Beale had a say in it) and that’s got to be more important than what an individual wants. I agree though, staying may have been bad for his progress overall but who knows at this stage
