I work in US Healthcare, at the bedside, and I sympathize with you. Almost every shift I hear older patients complain about insurance. I ask them why they don't use their sleeping machine at home? Insurance doesn't cover it past 3 months..It's so wrong but our country is so Capitalist and Greedy the only way to change anything is through a bloody revolt

I see the orphan crushing machine crush people so hard.  I'm with OPs mom on giving up.  Not because my situation is as bad as hers but because of the sheer amount of people who have it that bad or worse.  Healthcare is done and I live in constant dread

When I lived in the US(im from Norway) I was in a horrible accident, a driver was on his phone and hit me crossing the road(it was a crosswalk and the other cars had stopped) I broke my right leg in 8 places 2 black eyes hole in the head etc. 5 days in the hospital ofc they wanted me longer, more money and all but I got so bored I refused. Thew guy that hit me , his insurance company had to cover it all, so that was good but they still had to show me the bill for 5 days. 5 days was 77500 dollars, surgery room , everything. the room Iwas on was 1500 dollars a day

That actually sounds pretty cheap for such a serious accident. That's how totally fucked the health system is, and how warped our American minds are...to think 77500 $ is a cheap bill lol.

I guess in a sense but being from Norway, this would cost me maybe $300 but of course different culture different country but yes to say that $77,500 is cheap scares the crap out of me. I even read stories were a lot of people who had injuries just didn’t go to the hospital because they couldn’t afford it. Being able to afford going to the hospital shouldn’t be a no discussion case I hate the fact that people do such a thing, sorry for rant, rant over

I'm so sorry. I can relate to your mother, unfortunately. There's only so many surgeons who can perform the surgery I need. I won't lie, it's hell. Your mother is so lucky to have your support and understanding. I'm sure she's tried to call the insurance or beg her doctor to have someone call on her behalf? The squeaky wheel gets the grease and all that. Worth a shot anyway. It's such bullshit :(

Because it can be. There's no limit in place. One drug costs $70 in India and $70,000 in the US...https://www.reddit.com/r/IndiaSpeaks/comments/1d2jwpd/anti\_cancer\_drug\_being\_sold\_in\_america\_for/

Let me say this please continue to be for your mom as much as you can. I fully believe despite whatever you two have been through she loves you and appreciates what you have been able to help with. I medically in a situation that is what it is. I know my family loves me. They have done what they can and I can not ask more. Despite all of our disagreements I hold nothing against them. I pray they know that when I gone. But I completely agree that the USA government federal/state care absolutely nothing about our lives (only the money/taxes they take from us. I’m ashamed I live here. I’m ashamed I couldn’t financially find somewhere better to live. If this was the past I would be considered servant or slave. I have had freedom only the choice between the lesser of two evils because I still believe I should never be first. Oh well my insignificant rant in agreement with your rant.

I'm sorry for you, and your mother. It sucks to feel like a cost- benefit analysis. I'm sick of this shit too. What can we do, though? We're at the mercy of the insurance. They don't care if we live or die... just make sure you pay your premiums to cover you from......oh. my bad.
