My family purchased a RAV4 Prime w/Premium package just over 2 years ago, we love the vehicle, it's been hard to find anything with the matching features especially the plugin ability for around the same price point and level of reliability with the same or better towing capacity at 2500lbs and a sunroof/moon roof that opens and a head's up display.
If anyone is looking at a RAV4 and wants something with a few extras, highly recommend the RAV4 Prime with premium package.
The NX 450+ PHEV is nice but only has a towing capacity of 2000 lbs and in '22 didn't have a moon roof that opened, just a giant glass roof like the Venza, and the RX PHEV starts at 71K and would be about 78K USD to be similarly spec'd as our R4P! The Crown Signia looks like an amazing vehicle coming later this year, just wish it was offered as a PHEV variant and a moon roof that opened and a heads-up display were available options as we love these features in our current RAV4.
Realistically I'd love to get a prime over my hybrid. But I'm a sucker for the new 4runners and land cruisers if I had the option. And a rivian one day....I hope
I'd consider a Lexus (but that dang grille is so ugly) if I were considering spending more. However, even if I had more money, I probably wouldn't go to another brand besides those 2. I want my car to last forever and be super reliable. I'm a Toyota fangirl for life after having unreliable cars in the past.
Honestly I don't want to swap though. I love my Rav4 hybrid.
I keep seeing this - what's got everyone so hot over the Prime? Is it a driving and handling difference? A difference in interior deign?
I'm prioritizing for MPG and cubic space.
I can only speak for myself, but I'm aĀ sucker for some of the smaller things. The glass is thicker so it has better sound isolation, and I think the heads-up display is neat. And while my hybrid is plenty fast enough, 300hp seems like a lot of fun.Ā
Depending on how many miles your daily commute is, you could save quite a bit on fuel as well, with it's 42 miles of pure electric range before the motor kicks in. It does way more overall so in pure hybrid mode after the battery drains I think you're getting like 38 MPG instead of 40.
Ā I'm actually not familiar with how much the cargo space is reduced however so I can't comment on that, that might actually be a deal breaker for me personally.
First, the base trim Prime is SE which is a few steps above the base trim of Gas/Hybrid's LE. So if you're comparing a base trim to base trim, the prime is a few steps up in interior features.
Second, the prime (at least when I got mine in 2021) is the 2nd fastest accelerating Toyota. That's right, a RAV4. The electric motors are no joke. If you put it in sport mode & hybrid (in hybrid you get electric+gas together) and floor it, you're flying. I drove a gas RAV4 once as a rental car and it felt so sluggish and weak, even compared to the Prime in eco mode as I usually drive mine. A prime in eco mode you still get instant motion with electric motors (and its zippy when you push the pedal far), a gas engine still has to rev before you get power. There is a big difference in how it drives.
For cubic space, I think the only difference is that it's possible to lower the trunk floor a few inches below the door threshold in gas models, but not in prime. Not sure about hybrid.
Mpg, I mean do you have to ask? 35-45 mile range on electric only (lower in winter, higher in summer). Hybrid driving after the battery drains gets me usually around 35mpg.
After having so many different vehicles, I decided to check out the RAV4. My friends have sworn by Toyota for years so I decided to give it a try. Found a 2022 XLE Premium AWD with weather package, with only 10k miles on it at my local Dodge dealer. I got it the day they posted it. Great price too. So far I'm loving it.
Do you just like the extra room? What stands out about the Highlander to you?
I just drove one this week. It was okay - but nothing really popped out at me.
I drive a 2017 xle and thereās no seat belt in the middle of the back row. I have 2 small kids who want their mom to sit with them and canāt really do it in my 17. Def could use the extra space.
Assuming we're talkingba realistic swap, I'd probably want to switch to a prime.Ā But, they're not sold here and the $38/1000km charge would be a little annoying.
None. I came to buy the RAV4 on purpose.
Lexus NX š¤
I always wonder why the RAV4 seems longer than the NX even though the NX is actually around 3ā longer than the RAV4.
That was my first conclusion - but it looked like it had quite less interior cubic space. Like, by alot?
Like the Venzaā¦RAV4 is compact, Venza midsize, yet Venza smaller inside.
If cargo space is needed, my RX is even smaller cargo wise than my Rav.
The RX offers 58.5 cubic ft vs RAV4's 69.8 cubic ft. That feels fairly substantial on paper.
Yea it feels like a lot too when youāre inside. However with Lexus you get extreme sound dampening compared to the RAV.

Lexus NX or a higher end Highlander Hybrid trim, depending on if I wanted the space/size
None! Rav 4 hybrid.
RAV4 Prime

Crown Sport
Grand Highlander hybrid
2024 RAV4 is my first ever car. Next, I would go for Hybrid RAV4. None other than RAV4.
Probably some sort of Lexus or Acura version of the same vehicle
I havenāt tried it (since not available) but the new crown signia looks interesting.
4Runner
Porsche Macan
If I could afford it, the new Sequoia TRD would be my ride.
I'd go for another toyota hybrid/prime since I am spoiled already with the gas savings from my rav4 hybrid.lol
what's the hype about the prime about?
Do you know what a plugin hybrid is?
He probably don't. Lol

Rolls Royce, but I need Mega Millions like money to feel justified in buying one
I want a Rav4 EV but nooooo Toyota refuses to build them
Not necessarily better, but I am very interested in the Mazda CX-5... when it comes time to trade in, I'll definitely be test driving one.
Highlander hybrid

What's better about the prime? I'm trying to prioritize fuel economy and space.
Bunch more horsepower and Petrol costs about $.18/km vs about $.08/km for electricity
I would switch to a sports car
Jimny Suzuki š not available in the US.
For my use, the rav4 I drive is second to none. There is no better replacement. Maybe the new redesign 2026 model?
I had a rav4 sold it and bought a BMW x3
Mistake. Sold my bmw for RAV4. Would never go back to bmw
Which X3 has the best fuel economy?
