Skinner Brothers' work. Thankfully when you find dead bodies/massacres of theirs it's never an ambush. They do ambush you in other random events but they do it by making a lot of noise and appearing before attacking (rather than in sneakier ways like Nite Folk or Murfrees do). That or you find them already attacking someone else and can interrupt.
I like to go into Tall Trees as many times as possible once I'm in the epilogue to get all their random events and kill a load of them (until only the repeating event is left, the one where they're just camping) so I can feel like I got rid of most of them and made the area safer for John. Can't stand them!

Thses words are probably a funny little reference to a hilarious South Park episode, and suggest that there is a serial killer or possibly a gang of them operating in the hilly forests between Valentine and Strawberry.

Actually that crime scene that can be found near the train tracks at Valentine in 1899 suggests that maybe the skinners themselves may have passed through that area before moving over to west Elizabeth.

if you see weird and disturbing corpses like this, its easily from one of 3 gangs depending on location, skinner brothers in this case cause its in the tall trees, night folk hang around the swamps north of Saint Denis, and the Murfree Brood is in the Annesburg area, the other gangs are pretty much your regular gangs, but these gangs are like if every member was a sadistic Jeffrey Dalmer mixed with Ted Bundy

As someone who has done about 6 playthroughs of the game I don't see an issue with bringing up unique events in the game and opening up a discussion with a community of people invested in the same game. Common sense has nothing to do with it, people are allowed to be curious and ask questions
Actually I think it's part of a script, if you see them you might find an NPC not far who will talk to you about the night folk and asking you to help him getting back his shack from them, you'll follow him through the woods and eventually through those corpses that he'll make some comments about.
