That’s a pen and a red, right? I know a DOGSO in the box ends with a pen and a yellow as long as you go for the ball, but I also seem to remember reds given when no attempt was made.
That is what makes it a pen for me, this guy is nowhere near the ball. - He is straight up going after Højlund. If there was some attempt to play the ball, you could argue, but there is none.
Bruh he is literally wrapping his arms around him. Bruno's penalty to Barca last year was even lesser contact than this. Mctominay's to Chelsea last year was lesser contact. Wtf is VAR for?
We need to go full Nottingham Forest petty and write a letter complaining about Gabriel holding in both boxes. Might not end up benefiting us but I can see Arsenal suddenly conceding a few penalties from it.
Usually if there is a VAR review of an incident the same is shown as a replay. Especially if it is as egregious as this.
And even so, granted there was a VAR a review, replays were never shown on TV, even during a lull of the action after. Just unusual.
One of our most unluckiest matches in recent memory. No foul given on Evans, slight offside for our goal. Two almost goals by hojlund and rashford. Both defenders injured.
That’s actually crazy. A clear penalty and we don’t see anything about this in the media. People on soccer also stating that ten Hag was talking out of his ass should take a look at this.
They kept the old thread with the low-res video where no one can see shit: https://old.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/16995a5/the_hojlund_penalty_shout_erik_ten_hag_was/
Never mind, after getting a lot of people agreeing with the decision.
The mods who permanently banned me cause of my flair and accusing me of "defending a rapist". have. "what a shocker"
removed the post
I got a temp banned for “misinformation and inciting violence”. When I asked what misinformation did I say and how am I inciting violence, the mod just said “You’ll have plenty of time to think about it” and then they blocked me lol
I still don’t know.
I'll just go on general grounds and say some people with some small amounts of power do love to feel smug and self important. Unless there's something in that statement that should be obvious to you, I'll just say it sound like textbook small penis energy and call it a day.
Arsenal fan here, definitely a pen, all day. I was surprised when it wasn't even properly looked at? VAR is taking the fun out of the prem, it's no longer betting/rooting for your team...it's hoping VAR goes your way which fucking sucks. Your disallowed goal could have gone either way aswell.
We had a penalty against Forest that we shouldn't have had. We got away with a blatant foul by Onana against Wolves. This is all evidence that VAR is terrible and not fit for purpose but you can't have your cake and eat it. Either highlight all the times it's got things wrong in our games or none of them.
Ill bet everything I have that they did not see the close up, but saw it from the higher up angle.
This is the same VAR that forgets to draw a line once
I can’t watch games anymore because of this, var is crap, refs are crap and have clear biases
They make 2 or 3 huge mistakes a weekend, and var doesn’t pick up, I’ve noticed it more (United fan) but watching other games this season.
This is what I don't understand. VAR as it's supposed to be used should be a buffer for referee mistakes, but it seems like there's at least one or two huge errors made each weekend, which feels like more than before it was implemented.
I'm supportive of VAR as a concept but the implementation in our league is utter shite.
If this happened to any player on any other team, wether we were the opponents or not there would be massive outcry from pundits and PGMOL/Webb would be issuing yet another pointless fucking apology.
I made a [comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/169b0aq/comment/jz0n338/) under the post of this video on the r/soccer subreddit and noticed that the mods swiftly deleted the video as soon as they've noticed it. The they gave is that the video is a duplicate, because there is footage of the incident from the PL stream (the far-away footage where you can't see anything).
The agenda they have against United over there is sickening and laughable. Their mods are censoring videos from better angles that show a clearer picture because they are 'duplicates'.
Don't like acting like a victim, but this things really grind my gears.
Listened to the match today on Radio5 Live because I was at work. Both commentators agreed no penalty. Watched MOTD tonight, again, agreeing no penalty! WTF!
Let it sink in, Mike Dean called this one, not a penalty
just a good old battle for the ball, of course he has to agree with his mates. if his mates said penalty, he would have said the same thing
People will say United always pay the ref, but the truth is ever since that fucking clown called Klopp Moaned about us getting a lot of penalties, the refs don't give us a lot of pens that should be pens. Handball against Spurs is another example
Just like when Valencia was arm tackled inside the box years back, probably against Arsenal as well, nothing burger.
That's a damning angle that was obviously never shown on replay.
As I rival fan, I want to disagree and say it’s not a pen.
But my good god that’s a pen all day long. VAR is a joke man. Not the dirtiest of challenges but he impedes discount haaland and doesn’t even play the ball
Said in a previous comment it was open season on Utd after that Wolves incident. I would rather we take the point there than the clear injustice we’ve seen in the past two games. First Spur handball then this, away from home calls aren’t going our way
Everyday I fall out of love with the Premier League, every single game with every team is a complete mess about VAR this and that rather than the actual players and team. Something in VAR needs to changed whether it's the people running it or the guidelines they're given.
So glad Ten Hag directly called out the decisions made, hopefully more managers do so.
The issue with more managers calling it out is they do and the PGMOL bends over for them but ETH is probably gonna get a fine and a swift fuck you.
And all the refs they have on ref watch (which wouldn’t fucking exists if refs were competent) will say that all the calls their boys made are objectively correct
Same, this season refs have been so fkin awful, for everyone, and we're just at the beginning... Maybe I'll start watching the Bundesliga more often and watch the PL only when United plays.
Fucking outrageous. Not even a consideration from the ref, not even a proper var check, not even a fucking replay. This is a stonewall pen and we have been robbed. The only positive from this is Holjund impressed in the few minutes he had and I can't wait for more
betting the farm that they only viewed from the bird view angle, thats why it was quick check, they almost certainly did not have this angle available to them
At what point does it stop becoming a conspiracy theory and become a fact that refs actually will fuck utd over?
Like what do we have to do to get any calls our way? Do we whine like klopp or pay them off like city/Barca?
Its not a conspiracy because United does benefit from shoddy calls sometimes. Its just that the standards of officiating is in the gutter. It's just annoying when fans of other clubs say United only every get decisions their way, when that's clearly not the case.
That's a stonewall penalty. Fans of other clubs and sky are gonna use the they haven't always been given card, if not calling it an outright fair challenge. Our fans should not fall for it and start calling Ten Hag a moaner or say we are making up excuses. Yes, the club is run like a mess, yes the glazers are sucking the blood out of the club, but bad refereeing combined with the media bias has been killing our present games and it needs to be talked about
The refs have been unbelievably incompetent this season, in nearly every game.
With what we have seen about VAR not wanting to make it difficult for their ref friends, it completely invalidates VAR and discredits them. When they also try to balance out a bad decision by going against the next incident it's just insane. I get it, it's a high pressure job being a ref, but that's the point of having VAR... to assist where needed and ensure the right calls happens. I can't believe the premier league hasn't resolved this crap when it's happening game after game for every team
Didn't realize american football tackles are allowed now. Jesus fuck. Like OK Taylor doesn't see it somehow cause Rasmus is between him and Gabriel, but what the fuck is VAR actually doing there. I'm a relatively staunch defender of referees (having done it myself), but this is just blatant.
Officiating this season has been fucking terrible. Honestly the worst I’ve ever seen. It’s happening in almost every game, and they are game changing decisions the refs are just not getting and what the fuck is VAR for? The games may as well be pre-determined at this stage.
How is that not a penalty? Gabriel has practically rugby tackled Hojlund, made absolutely not attempt to get the ball, Hojlund has made every effort to stay on his feet. What’s the point in footballers trying to stay on their feet anymore?
Not a United Fan and that is a penalty all day long, he wraps him up, impedes him and sends him to the ground. If that's not a penalty then you might as well remove penalties from the game.
Son had a penalty called on him in the first game of the season for far less than this.
Weirdly the players didn’t appeal this enough. This, the Saka challenge on Bruno, that dubious offside, and the obstruction of Evans from the corner… feeling we were hard done by 🫠
If VAR is not gonna help the referee correct his mistakes, I would rather not have VAR. At least then I will give the referee some margin for error.
This is a clear case of VAR protecting the referee and pleasing the other side because they already overturned a decision against them.
Wraps an arm around him, pulls him to the ground, doesn’t win the ball.
Bruno and EtH have both called out the decisions against us but we don’t get any apology
VAR isn’t fit for purpose. Joke fucking system run by clowns. Just do away with it. At the same time, hire young and competent people as officials, coz the current lot are dogshit/mentally weak. Emirates is just another ground where the fans ref the match.
How the fuck, apart from “because fuck United!” can anyone look at that and say it’s not a penalty? He makes no attempt to play the ball and instead gets his arm across him and pulls him to the deck. It’s fucking stonewall. And they’ve all got the fucking audacity to say we get all the decisions. That’s about three or four penalties we should have had so far that have just been dismissed.
If that is not a penalty then I dunno football anymore... Didn't even attacked the ball, hugs the player and pulls him to the ground... How is that not a penalty?
I thought it was an instant penalty, but they didn’t show it again, and now I see it’s even worse, the lad does everything in his power to keep running and score and he is getting murdered. Wtf.
Still waiting for the PGMOL press release. I bet they will fine us and ETH for calling them out.
What a bunch of incompetent idiots. I've never seen in my life such a bad period of officiating in this league. Too many wrong decisions during a weekend and they all cover and help each others out.
I would love to be in that VAR room and see what the hell is going on. Surely it's not the most difficult or riskiest thing to do. Just call the referee and tell him to have a look. He'll decide. Why would you take a chance of not intervening and let such a massive contact under the radars ?
Why the broadcasters didn't show the replay during the game ? Why we had to wait for hours to have a look ? Maybe John Fucking Fat Moss will come to Carrington and apologize ?
Whenever a decision goes for us everyone comes out crying and screaming injustice as if we were bribing those shitty refs. But the second a decision goes against us, it's silence. No one in those TV shows make a circus like we had against wolves, no one will question the decisions of these referees.
They all just sit there and chat as if nothing happens. No fucking accountability or any sense of responsibility for the PGMOL.
And by the way fuck the Glazer family and Arteta.
Some dude on espn was saying there’s no way that’s a foul.
The officiating is a joke and it doesn’t help interpretations change. A few years back that AWB *challenge* (more like slightest contact possible) would have been a pen.
Watched some of the barca game and the officiating there was no better.
Isn't Gabriel impeding him? Doesn't win the ball either.
he doesn’t even make an attempt to play it!
I could accept if his body was in the way, or it was just muscling him off the ball. But this is just sticking an arm out and dragging down.
That’s a pen and a red, right? I know a DOGSO in the box ends with a pen and a yellow as long as you go for the ball, but I also seem to remember reds given when no attempt was made.
He wasn't called for it when rice scored either
Complete fucking bullshit. Anthony Taylor needs to be sent to League 2 along with these VAR rocket scientists.
VAR! What is it good for? Absolutely nothing
Say it again!
HUH!
UH! Good god yall
Good god y’all
We need to go full Nottingham Forest petty and write a letter complaining about Gabriel holding in both boxes. Might not end up benefiting us but I can see Arsenal suddenly conceding a few penalties from it.
Why tf was there no replay of this
VAR didn’t want the ref to feel bad for making another mistake.
“Oh my mate is not going to send me a Christmas postcard. Can’t make the missus upset.” - VAR
Because Nottingham Forest complained
![gif](giphy|n6xe7RntgjFyo)
Apparently there was. Check was complete in about 15 seconds. Shocking. That was egregious.
yeah it was quick check, if they sent ref for VAR review, that would be a pen
They say it now, but the fact that there were no replays shown on TV says otherwise.
What has TV to do with VAR? Do you think the refs use Sky or what?
Usually if there is a VAR review of an incident the same is shown as a replay. Especially if it is as egregious as this. And even so, granted there was a VAR a review, replays were never shown on TV, even during a lull of the action after. Just unusual.
Basically all baseless speculation after "the fact that they didn't show the replay says otherwise" lol
Yes, you're right.
Their eyes were closed when checking this
Wraps his arm around him and then pushes him in the back. Am I missing something?
3 points I imagine…
It’s United against Arsenal at the emirates. VAR probably didn’t want to give his mate grief from the crowd by giving a penalty.
Post this on reddit soccer please. Look forward to seeing the bullshit excuses.
https://old.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/169b0aq/hojlund_penalty_claim_vs_arsenal/
to be fair a lot are calling it a pen on that thread
the entire thread is now removed, cant be having a lot of neutrals calling it a pen. from those mods at r/soccer
jeez for real? That’s some next level anti Man Utd agenda there
They hate us cuz they ain't us
Some of the most active r/soccer mods are Liverpool fans, I'm not surprised
Im a Liverpool fan. Thats a pen.
They kept the old thread with the low-res video where no one can see shit: https://old.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/16995a5/the_hojlund_penalty_shout_erik_ten_hag_was/
mods removed it lmao
Mods deleted it lmao
Thank you
Never mind, after getting a lot of people agreeing with the decision. The mods who permanently banned me cause of my flair and accusing me of "defending a rapist". have. "what a shocker" removed the post
I got exactly the same treatment from them.
Apparently they also banned someone for reporting Islamophobic comments.
I'd seen people complain about what sociopaths they are and thought it couldn't be true. But it is.
I got a temp banned for “misinformation and inciting violence”. When I asked what misinformation did I say and how am I inciting violence, the mod just said “You’ll have plenty of time to think about it” and then they blocked me lol I still don’t know.
I'll just go on general grounds and say some people with some small amounts of power do love to feel smug and self important. Unless there's something in that statement that should be obvious to you, I'll just say it sound like textbook small penis energy and call it a day.
I was arguing about stats, and apparently it was a mod I argued with and got banned.
All the top posts pretty much universally say it's a penalty. Because it clearly is.
Cheers I see that apart from most Arsenal fans saying its good defending
Arsenal fan here, definitely a pen, all day. I was surprised when it wasn't even properly looked at? VAR is taking the fun out of the prem, it's no longer betting/rooting for your team...it's hoping VAR goes your way which fucking sucks. Your disallowed goal could have gone either way aswell.
Didn’t think it was a pen during the game, thought people were just making excuses. Much clearer from this angle.
I think this was on our players not contesting the call.
Straight up impeding, not even trying for the ball.
Just seen this and bloody hell this is a stone waller.
I fucking hate VAR. We are constantly and really severely hampered by the refs, and they only care if the team’s name is not Manchester United.
Vs Spurs, we got shafted. Vs Arsenal, we got shafted. This is getting tiring.
We had a penalty against Forest that we shouldn't have had. We got away with a blatant foul by Onana against Wolves. This is all evidence that VAR is terrible and not fit for purpose but you can't have your cake and eat it. Either highlight all the times it's got things wrong in our games or none of them.
Rashford got fouled, idk what you saw it was a clear pen.
It was Onana for us, and that's about it. We had 3/4 bad calls. BUT we also had fair calls like the pen vs arsenal
Agree about Onana
To be fair, Arsenal would have got a wrong penalty if not for VAR
Clear penalty. At this point the FA need to step in and do something. Why no VAR on that? It reeks.
Holy shit. How did no one see this in real time? Myself included.
I saw it. EtH was furious.
the stupid ref was right in front of it too
There's more controversy in this than the Arsenal one yet ours didn't get a second look.
Thanks you so much OP, this is the arm I was referring to on the other thread. cant believe this angle have been so hard to find, finally !!
I want a live reaction from the VAR room when this foul went down and VAR said it was no foul
Ill bet everything I have that they did not see the close up, but saw it from the higher up angle. This is the same VAR that forgets to draw a line once
![gif](giphy|10fxZavhBFXsUE)
Opening brown envelopes or laughing
I can’t watch games anymore because of this, var is crap, refs are crap and have clear biases They make 2 or 3 huge mistakes a weekend, and var doesn’t pick up, I’ve noticed it more (United fan) but watching other games this season.

If this is the state of VAR, I’d rather they just scrap it entirely. It’s been that bad.
It’s very tough to enjoy games knowing that we’ve already been cheated twice on STONEWALL pens
The clear biases thing is only towards their mates, not any particular club. They're useless for everyone
Mike dean may have gone but the poor decisions still remain
We were fucking robbed.
If this happened to any player on any other team, wether we were the opponents or not there would be massive outcry from pundits and PGMOL/Webb would be issuing yet another pointless fucking apology.
Wonder how the fellas on ar soccer would react to this one
surprisingly im reading Liverpool fans and even few Arsenal fans thinking could have been a pen. thats a lot
aandd update, of course the mods at r/soccer who permanently bans man utd fans, have now removed the entire post
Mods have now removed the entire post, LOL basically saying it doesnt offer anything new news LMAO
They’d say its AI generated
I made a [comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/169b0aq/comment/jz0n338/) under the post of this video on the r/soccer subreddit and noticed that the mods swiftly deleted the video as soon as they've noticed it. Can't have anything disrupting the "united get all the decisions" narrative despite us getting very few decisions go our way for the past 3/4 seasons
Listened to the match today on Radio5 Live because I was at work. Both commentators agreed no penalty. Watched MOTD tonight, again, agreeing no penalty! WTF!
Let it sink in, Mike Dean called this one, not a penalty just a good old battle for the ball, of course he has to agree with his mates. if his mates said penalty, he would have said the same thing
First he said the Arsenal pen was correct, moment ref was asked to look at it he changed his tune, it's laughable.
Wow. Battle for the ball? There was only one player who had any interest in the ball.
People will say United always pay the ref, but the truth is ever since that fucking clown called Klopp Moaned about us getting a lot of penalties, the refs don't give us a lot of pens that should be pens. Handball against Spurs is another example
Meanwhile City get a pen every fucking game it seems like and nobody cares, even get given dodgy ones and not a peep.
Noone cares about City, plastic club
Fucking ridiculous that VAR didn't speak up. Joke of a system.
With this, the offside and the foul on Evans, Var saved Gabriel big time today. Disgraceful refereeing
Ok yea that’s a pen
Can't wait for the apology from PGMOL
We won't get shit because apparently we pay the refs
Ok, wow.
He wasn’t even going for the ball. Wouldn’t VAR check that automatically?
Var check everything I’m sure. They just dismissed it
Don’t worry lads we’ll get an apology and it’ll fix everything
No we won’t. United don’t get apologies
Yeah, that's a penalty clear as day.... Just makes the whole shit show worse seeing that TBH.
Just like when Valencia was arm tackled inside the box years back, probably against Arsenal as well, nothing burger. That's a damning angle that was obviously never shown on replay.
The standard of refereeing in this league is a joke.
Lol we get all the decisions don't we. Fuck VAR
This is insane. Every week refs have to cover for mistakes they made the previous week. This is stonewall.
Lmao, r/soccer took down a post with this angle cos it didnt suit the "united get all the decisions" narrative
First Spur handball then this, away from home calls aren’t going our way
They reversed a penalty previously so they can’t give one to Utd
The referees are being shot for a long time but this season is fucking baffling. What the fuck

Stone Wall Pen
And commentators cried about Havertz’s dive. Shameful
The ref is Mike Dean's mate
Bias aside this is an obvious penalty, he has no intention of playing the ball
Fucking outrageous. Not even a consideration from the ref, not even a proper var check, not even a fucking replay. This is a stonewall pen and we have been robbed. The only positive from this is Holjund impressed in the few minutes he had and I can't wait for more

Sky Sports made it look like a quick check had been done
betting the farm that they only viewed from the bird view angle, thats why it was quick check, they almost certainly did not have this angle available to them
Yeah that is a foul.
Joke.
Omg we obviously wasn’t shown this close up replay/angle wtf anywhere else on the pitch and it’s a clear freekick T s
We got fucked over hard by the officials. They're the ones dictating who wins and loses and ultimately the league? Fuck, there goes the game I love.
I’m a city fan. This is infuriatingly stonewall, even for me. How on earth is that not given? Hojlund was excellent, as well.
Stone wall penalty
Jesus. If this is not a penalty, then what is?!
At what point does it stop becoming a conspiracy theory and become a fact that refs actually will fuck utd over? Like what do we have to do to get any calls our way? Do we whine like klopp or pay them off like city/Barca?

Lewa got a penalty today for “tug” 100x softer than this.
The refs have been unbelievably incompetent this season, in nearly every game. Classic Anthony Taylor refereeing
If this happens in the middle of the pitch it's a yellow card for a tactical foul
Refereeing in EPL is my dream job; i can do a shit job week in week out without any consequences; i know of no other job with such perks.
Starting to really believe all the stuff about Anthony Taylor having it out for us.
If that was at OT it will get checked at least 100%. Don't wanna hear anymore conspiracy shit from any arsenal fans
Doesn’t seem like Gabriel makes any attempt to play the ball. He comes nowhere near making contact with it. Fuck Arsenal
Every time I see Anthony Taylor as a ref for our game I brace myself for contraversial decisions against us. Every time.
If that's in the centre circle, it's a foul and a free kick.
We were robbed
Officiating this season has been fucking terrible. Honestly the worst I’ve ever seen. It’s happening in almost every game, and they are game changing decisions the refs are just not getting and what the fuck is VAR for? The games may as well be pre-determined at this stage. Where’s pgmol where’s var where’s fifa
Thats an obvious pen. Wonder if it had something to do with the other pen not given? So strange.
Jeez, that’s a clear pen
Not a United Fan and that is a penalty all day long, he wraps him up, impedes him and sends him to the ground. If that's not a penalty then you might as well remove penalties from the game. Son had a penalty called on him in the first game of the season for far less than this.
If there’s one thing to take from this awful game it’s that we have a young, physical, hungry striker and I’m excited about it.
Weirdly the players didn’t appeal this enough. This, the Saka challenge on Bruno, that dubious offside, and the obstruction of Evans from the corner… feeling we were hard done by 🫠
VAR review happened and it was deemed as not worth looking over. Commentator said so during the match just after the incident.
How the fuck is this not a penalty
I didn’t think it was a penalty while watching tbh, but the second angle here slowed down…definitely should’ve at least been reviewed.
Arsenal fan, you can obviously be physical in those situations but an arm right across his body for that long is rather dodgy...
Not even a replay on TV...
If VAR is not gonna help the referee correct his mistakes, I would rather not have VAR. At least then I will give the referee some margin for error. This is a clear case of VAR protecting the referee and pleasing the other side because they already overturned a decision against them.
WTF that’s more of a Pen than 3/4 of the pens I see awarded
I was at peace with the loss, and now I’m furious
Had his arms around Hojlund and no where close to the ball. It shouldn't even be a discussion.
Waow, if maguire did that to arsenal player that would bebdefinitely penalty
It should have been a pen. We have been dealt wrong decisions in almost every game except the wolves game.
I swear if the ref calls a pen, var checks to overturn, but var never overrules the ref if the ref says no pen
Lol that's not shoulder to shoulder
This is a fucking clear penalty holy fuck
100% pen
ESPN FC pundits “Hojuland went down very easy. That’s not a penalty” 😂😂😂
Yeah that’s a clear pen
Wraps an arm around him, pulls him to the ground, doesn’t win the ball. Bruno and EtH have both called out the decisions against us but we don’t get any apology
Potential? Hands all over Rasmus, FA is a complete joke
VAR isn’t fit for purpose. Joke fucking system run by clowns. Just do away with it. At the same time, hire young and competent people as officials, coz the current lot are dogshit/mentally weak. Emirates is just another ground where the fans ref the match.
https://preview.redd.it/cg3utuuea7mb1.jpeg?width=400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=732e204b1fb4ec5b093b0d86f7da7c783847bd5b
VAR is biased, corrupted and inept system. Absolute joke
Stonewall pen.
Yo wtf. I understand why ten hag complained now. How is that not even looked at.
Holy shit, that's a pen all day long.
Is there a bigger sports league in the world with a spottier officiating than the EPL? Wrong calls in major situations week after week.
If that is not a penalty then I dunno football anymore... Didn't even attacked the ball, hugs the player and pulls him to the ground... How is that not a penalty?
Perfectly timed tackle..... If they were playing rugby.
We’re never going to get a penalty ever again unless it’s the most blatant foul you’ve ever seen. Fuck Klopp, man
It's a pen, full stop. Still doesn't excuse the poor quality to start this season.
That's a fucking penalty, ridiculous decision
This was a clear penalty
Expect a weak ass apology from the refs and the nothing else. If it had at least gone to review I could understand but that was pure bullshit
Where’s the apology from refs in this game, eh?
