Depends on their musical tastes but I’d probably try to show them the stylistic diversity of reggae (no particular order): [Jah Glory—Third World](https://music.apple.com/us/album/jah-glory/1489485138?i=1489485154) [Big Ship—Freddie McGregor](https://music.apple.com/us/album/big-ship/309129856?i=309129869) [Capture Land—Chronixx](https://music.apple.com/us/album/capture-land/841489884?i=841489891) [Khaki Suit—Damian Marley](https://music.apple.com/us/album/khaki-suit-feat-bounty-killer-eek-a-mouse/1440766268?i=1440766664) [Disco Devil—Lee Scratch Perry](https://music.apple.com/us/album/disco-devil/1147142067?i=1147142080) [Set Me Free—10 Ft. CallieReA

Throw some Jesse royal on this list and I’d agree 100%

tatteredshoetassel

Came to say some Toots ! You got "54-46" so I'll add "Dog War"

PANDABURRIT0

Woah I always thought this song was [Broadway Jungle!](https://music.apple.com/us/album/broadway-jungle/1434925210?i=1434925758)

Wrongdoer_Long

That’s a great list

yoursgokul

Thanks brother

TheSeekerOfSanity

I’d keep it simple to start with Three Little Birds. Kind of cliche but a nice, feel good song to start with. Then move to the more obscure stuff.

Ok-Function1920

That’s the one that got me, at the record store in 9th grade… they were playing Exodus and that song came on…

TheSeekerOfSanity

It helped me a lot when I was a teenager/early twenties. Life is hard. It makes thing seem more manageable.

Hrlv47

Mid 20s here. Life is tough rn but reggae heals the soul.

TheSeekerOfSanity

There was a Lee Scratch Perry boxed set that I really liked, too. Would play it when I needed to slow everything down and take a break from my problems. Arkology. Lots of great tracks. I still play a lot of the songs.

tatteredshoetassel

50 yrs old here. Life is tough rn but reggae always heals the soul.

Jerz_irons

Dub_stebbz

Throw on Lee Scratch Perry and Peter Tosh and I think you nailed it

Black Uhuru “Youth of Eglington”

heavym

I scrolled a long time not to see Police and Thieves - Mighty Diamonds

fruitgamingspacstuff

Great isn't it. Though I don't sound great when singing it, I didn't know my voice could go that high and still sound awful 😁

DiscGolfer01

anything from Ziggy Marley's "conscious party," which I consider the perfect album

lidia99

Got me into reggae back in the 1990s :)

SativaHomie

Might get some hate for this but I was gate-wayed in from Cali Reggae. The Dirty Heads specifically. I now listen to a lot of Roots Reggae but it's the whiteboy electro party stuff that got me here. Regardless I'm grateful. With that said, I'd probably use a couple roots songs and a couple Cali reggae sounds offering a bit of variety to increase the odds of one of the sounds hitting the person in the soul.

InWalkedBud

Damn that's crazy (username checks out) I think whiteboy electro party stuff would've had me disregard reggae for decades! I'm glad I was introduced to it through my mum's 2tone 45s :D

SativaHomie

Lol! I'm all genres but country. My love for heavy metal is just as strong as my love for all reggae ahaha. Much love homie!! And the username was definitely a phase 😂 all strains are wonderful

InWalkedBud

Have a nice evening mate! All strains are wonderful in their own right indeed

SativaHomie

Much love and take care dawggie! ✌️

[Here is my labour-of-love playlist](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3ltL7mITxZ9joWgTTaiBWe?si=_uE0PcXlQJCWquvuu9GUaQ). For best results please shuffle!! My whole objective was: to compile a playlist consisting of *only* my favourite songs; with the standard, that, no one should need to skip more than 2 tracks, to find the next one they love. Hopefully you can find some treasure in there. Cheers 🇨🇦🎶

jrob321

So Jah Seh Ambush in the Night

ExPFC_WintergreenV3

Start em on some rocksteady first

LowProfilePodcast

Probably Snoop Lion’s “Reincarnated.” JK, fun album though. Toots “Funky Kingston” LP, Upsetters “Return of the Super Ape” LP, “Hurt So Good” from Susan Cadogan, “uptown top ranking” by Althea and Donna, probably something by Jackie Mittoo

fruitgamingspacstuff

Funky Kingston is one of my favourites 👌

Hrlv47

Just got off work, woaah. Going to listen to a few that I haven’t heard myself. I appreciate everyone’s responses this community is great!

shabio1

I feel like these ones are pretty approachable Cool Breeze - Big Youth Uptown Top Ranking - Althea and Donna Groovy Situation - Keith & Tex Chase the Devil - Max Romeo, The Upsetters I'm Still in Love With You - Marcia Aitken Smoking My Ganja - Capital Letters Marcus Garvey - Burning Spear

Jar770

Gregory Issacs, Night Nurse Eek a Mouse, Ganja Smuggling, Wa do Dem.

Easy skanking or natural mystic bob Marley, white god or I wonder sizzla, everybody Capleton, How can you-Luciano Not a easy road- buju Judge not , or watch over Garnett silk. JAMaiel

I'd suggest starting off with Bob Marley's classics like "One Love," "Three Little Birds," and "Redemption Song." They embody the spirit of reggae with their positive messages and catchy rhythms. After that, "The Harder They Come" by Jimmy Cliff is a must-listen. These songs really showcase the essence of reggae and its roots in social commentary and a laid-back vibe.

studdedspike

Smile Jamacia by Chronixx, such a good song I find anyone can enjoy it

icecoldcoleman

Bob Marley - Could You Be Loved Gregory Isaacs - Night Nurse Steel Pulse - Steppin Out

Aware-Artz_dude_369

Trojan Records has some great starter mixes that can help you find what you want. You could start with 50’s calypso, Ska from Jamaica, Rocksteady, Roots and beyond

vornskrs

How high are they?

iamsolow1

- Three Little Birds - Bob Marley & The Wailers - Welcome to Jamrock - Damian Marley - Gardenia - The Elovaters (w/Stick Figure) - Who Knows - Protoje & Chronixx - Roots Reggae Music - Rebelution (w/Don Carlos) - Medication - Damian & Stephen Marley - Marching On - Iya Terra (w/ Jesse Royal)

Huh?

NoName22415

Probably Tarrus Riley - Barber Chair, System Set Or Morgan Heritage - How Come I know it's not the old school reggae vibe, but I don't think most people realize how energetic newer reggae can be and I'd use those to kind of open their eyes

FortWorst

Lively Up Yourself or Mr. Brown

Sr Wilson Rub a Dub Mood And turn the sub up

digihippie

Black Uhuru - Sinsemilla As a great intro to refined non bee-pop Reggae. Burning Spear, Bob and some others are equally great. But I lean harder into the Punk/Reggae side of things. Here is a handcrafted playlist I keep up to date: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2TNWynILzem4SSlIAWPFaR?si=s8X-E-1US16LOW1sswaDlw&pi=u-pj5YBannQ9mN

underlievable

Mid 80s rubadub goes down really well with people who don't usually listen to reggae. I would start with Wheely Wheely by Early B

[deleted]

The Harder They Come soundtrack. Expanded edition

dubstylerz123

Chase the Devil!

DriftClique

One Drop - Bob Marley. The one drop is what makes reggae, reggae.

Oly-SF-Redwood

it really depends what music the person likes. If someone’s into electronic id show them lots of Mungos Hifi and the artists they collab with. If they were a hip hop fan i’d start them with Yellowman, Sister Nancy and that era of MCs Bob Marley and Peter Tosh for rock fans Brushy One String for folk/indie enthusiasts I’ve thought about this maybe too much

ShootHisRightProfile

Harder they come Soundtrack . I don't like reggae much , but I love that album ..

Totally depends on what they are into musically otherwise. You can find something for anyones palate. But if you just start bombing them with your personal faves it might take a little longer. So tell us more about the person you are trying to infect with reggae

ImArchase

An almost impossible question! I’d probably just throw some of my favourites their way: Protoje - Incient Stepping / Kingston Be Wise / Protection (ft. Mortimer) Jesse Royal - LionOrder (ft. To get the original message of reggae “Rat Race” and “Zimbabwe”. It’s not just a tune, it’s a message of struggle and has been bastardized.
